  • Rick is a part of the reason why the Lieberals are a rump party now.People are tired of him and his blatant bag-licking to the Lieberals.Hence the results of May 2nd.....They will wallow in the swamp for many more years to come.....Which is just where they belong..:D

  • rather die believing in something than live ignoring everything.....is there a happy medium..51 percent is normal....so we would agree at least 51 percent is crooked....so does that mean its normal to be crooked in politics....sad but a possibilitie

  • The problem with Liberals is they don't understand reality. And they don't ever want to.

  • When will Mercer stop playing to the narrow slice of the electorate who live mainly in Toronto? Come on, you can't do a rant on the Liberals sending troops and support to Iraq despite calling it an illegal war? Or on them sending our soldiers into Afghanistan without a parliamentary vote? Or on them wanting to raise taxes? None of these are gold mines for commentary? Guess not. It's always about Harper and never about the Liberals.

  • Liz May made Dion wear an apron and make watercrest sandwiches! How sad!!

  • Where is Dion now?

  • He's in Parliament. That's politics. But it really is unfortunate that the US now has a president that is actually concerned about the big issues and is taking action, but up north we're still stuck with Bush's lapdog. And again, the Liberals are going to be stuck with cleaning up a Conservative fiscal mess.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. :|

  • Obama taking action.

Well I guess you are right. Running roughshod over the constitution is action.

Not postive action mind you but action none the less.

  • How is Obama running roughshod over the Constitution?

Oh and what did you think of Bush doing it in spades?

  • blah blah blah "bush"

    booooooooooooooooooooooooooring.

  • Indeed it was classic to see Harper beg a woman (the Governor General) to allow him to dissolve parliament in order to keep his deeply unpopular and unconstitutional government in power. Harper was like a pansy bully with his tail between his legs.

  • Did someone try to say that Stephen Harper was honest? Lets see, he lied about calling an election [he thought parliament was dysfunctional then...] he lied about Stephane Dion's Carbon tax calling a trick [it's so unfortunately much more complicated], he lied about the elections canada scandal, and only an official court order awaits to declare Stephen Harper a lier about Chuck Cadman.

  • Harper is a tyranical hypocritical bully who is shooting bull of his mouth, nothing but distractions from his ultimate plan. Which would be "Screw you, I want your money", he doenst care about families, he doesnt care bout anything else than the money! Well lemme tell ya, if I were to decide between a year of bad economy to my children freezing to death or dying of droughts through ENVIRONMENTAL concerns, well I'll take the leader willing to save the planet! Conservtives are just short sighted!

  • I agree with you 100%. The environment should be given a higher priority on the cons. to-do list.

I read somewhere that Canada's co2 emissions have been increasing the fastest in the world. I'll try to find where I read it.

  • Yep, he's a bully.

    The Harper government

    scorns the Constitution,

    scorns the Supreme Court,

    Scorns Parliament,

scorns the will of the People,

    and scorns the facts.

    Just like all tyrannical power-pushers.

    Anyone but Harper!

  • blah blah blah

Chretien is the most EVIL PM we've ever had.

Harper is a breath of fresh - and honest! - air blowing through the country.

  • If Harper is so honest, then why has he gone out of his air to slander critics, silence watchdogs, and withhold evidence in war crimes investigations? (which, incidentally, can and should get him kicked out and/or arrested)

  • Nothing has been withheld. No one has been silenced - obviously because they have made their views known defeats the premise of your argument - and "slander" is a subjective term that you use, which means you're not interested in the truth, just your perception of it.

  • @PhilipJFry72 Nothing has been withheld? How do you figure -- he's refused to hand over evidence from day one (if you actually read anything you would know that).

And by the way "slander" is not a subjective term, it is a legal one referring to verbally lying about someone in public.

  • No, you're wrong. The so-called "evidence" that Harper critics have been braying over can't just be handed over willy-nilly. It needs to be found, examined for Privacy Act and National Defence Act provisions, and that's AFTER the material has been vetted as being important - and there is continuing discussion as to what is important.

Surely you're not saying that whatever anyone considers evidence must be handed over without due diligence...

  • @PhilipJFry72 So why did Harper refuse to even do THAT much, until threatened with a contempt vote?

I vividly recall Peter Mackay righteously calling anyone who even brought the issue up, a Taliban sympathizer. In other words, he refused to even look into it. Then, Harper and his goons took every opportunity to obstruct any attempt to investigate it (which would get any of us arrested if we tried it in the real world).

  • Dion seems like a good guy, but he's not as calculated/calm or as politically saavy as Harper or Layton.

Ignatieff should've won for the liberals.

  • I would love to fight with little fat stephen, what to you say,Peaches?

  • I'll take ya on, Vinny.

  • Harper is fucking fat

  • 3 words: CANADIAN ACTION PARTY

  • Sorry, mikefastener, I'm just reacting to your apparent behaviour in our discussion here.

You've been trying to brand me Liberal seemingly because I question our *current* government and don't agree that we should dwell on the past to the exclusivity of holding our current Conservative government up to the ideals on which it was elected.

I agree, the money should be paid back to make things right. Mr. Harper has set a good example in this by paying back the $50,000 he promised Alan Riddell.

  • "...because the answer is "Yes."

And it always will be. Dion, do yourself and the nation a favour. Sit quietly, and do what Harper tells you what to do. Because he has the vision, the policy, the courage....and the wherewithall to be a leader. You don't.

  • The scary part about that dude's comment is he isn't being sarcastic.

  • You are absolutely right! He is not being sarcastic in his opinion about Dion being a "wimp"---mind you, his own lie-berals laughed at him at the convention--and the rest of Canada has been laughing at him every since!

  • Funniest part is the laughing stock is doing better in the polls than the PM! Ahahahaaa

  • Polls float my friend...uhhhh...who is the current PM? (Dion will be the biggest Conservative campaigner during the next election...just listen to him to confirm.)

Elizabeth May demands Dion wear an apron...which colour?...not easy for him to set priorities.

Will he ever be a leader?

  • Actually, polls are a poor indication of electorate intensions...ask Hillary about beating Obama in NH! But--don't ask Dion his opinion...best to ask Elizabeth May...she has Dion in the kitchen making sandwiches in an apron. Which colour apron? Not easy for him to make priorities! lololol

  • Hitler won elections too, does not make him a good person.

  • You mean like Jean Chretien?

    (Lie-beral hypocracy hurts doesn't it?)

    Just wondering....

  • Implying Jean was a good guy? Because then ill disagree again... granted none of his cabinet ended up in prison...

  • What??????

  • None of his cabinet ended up in prison because of the lax, lie-beral bias court system...Just ask Jean about his golf course mortgage...again, just wondering....

  • I believe all of us can at least agree that we should, "Stand up for Canada!". A great feeling to say it! Go ahead.

  • Go team False Patriotism!

It worked for Bush's neo-Cons, it can work for ours, too!

If you're not with us, you're against us!

  • Go lie-berals! "We represent Canadian values"

I guess when Canadians saw that lie-berals represented corruption, Canadians said that is not us. "Standing up for Canada" kinda makes us all proud....are you? Just wondering....

  • Sadly, more corruption in the last 2 years of this "New Government" than 13 years of Liberal rule.

  • Oh wow! I guessed I missed the inquiries into our new gov't corruption! When exactly were they? I do remember lie-beral corruption inquiries. Oh my....so pathetic a defence. (Admit it...even you are embarassed.)

  • You missed Gomery's comments that Harper's PMO threatens democracy? You missed the rail-roading and childish antics in committee? You missed the RCMP raid on Con HQ? You miss the "edited" tape, to which no reply has been made other than an "evolving" storyline? You missed the faltering RCMP that has had its budget cut over the past 2 years by a government supposedly tough on crime?

If you repeat something enough, people might start believing it and spout it like parrots, too. Worked for Bush!

  • Uhhhhhh...I did miss the inquiry convicting the Conservatives of corruption and illegal activities. Tell me when it happened! Oh my, my poor friend...a bunch of lie-beral bias opinions you shout out (in very obvious anger--since the Conservatives are doing such a good job) versus a conviction! Don't you see the difference? (Or, are you too filled with hate at what the lie-berals did to you and you are lashing out at anyone and everyone?) Join us in Standing up for Canada. I did.

  • Convicting? I thought it was inquiries you were after... No matter, I'm sure convicting comes sometime after the discovery in a frivolous lawsuit. Or after a police raid on a party headquarters.

Why do you find it necessary to put words in my mouth? I've listed fact, sir. "Facts are stubborn things; and whatever our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictums of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence."

Stand up for Canada? I don't think we'll fall for that this time.

  • I'm sorry...did you say you would not fall for lie-beral corruption this time? Just wondering....

Uhhh...as always you didn't respond, no matter--let us make your bias quite obvious.."RCMP raid", "edited tape", "PMO threats", "lib-eral corruption"--which issue has resulted in criminal convictions and is therefore the most damning? Clock is ticking....

  • It's our Conservative government that recently has alleged the tape Mr. Zytaruk made public is edited. The media reported the RCMP-Elections Canada raid on 15 April, and it is Mr. Gomery himself who used the language "threat to democracy".

At least the Liberals had the chutzpah to fully embrace a Parliamentary inquiry into corruption in their administration, not launch civil suits against those who spoke out against them.

I'm saying that Canadians won't fall for *false patriotism* this time.

  • Didn't answer the question....(remember, the right wingers reading are now snickering and the left wingers reading are feeling queasy).

Which was the most damning...the conviction or allegations? A one word answer is all you need! Clock has been re-set and is ticking....

  • Lying is the most damning.

  • Hmmmmmmm....don't want to answer. Luckily for the truth...."lying" captures the lie-beral party exactly.

(Feeling a little foolish right now aren't we?)

Join us in Standing up for Canada!!!

  • So you mean to say that as leader of our Conservative government and the first among equals, Mr. Harper has never lied?

  • Oh my, oh my...you dig yourself deeper and deeper into the pit!!! Your won't answer my question; but, feel entitled (the usual lie-beral trait) for an answer. Here is my answer--I don't know (and neither do you). Just like we don't know if Creiten, Dion or Martin were lying. We both however know the lie-berals were convicted of corruption. Yes? or No? Again, another one word answer. Canadian's are watching for your next post for any remaining credibility on your part. Don't disappoint!

  • Either you are misinformed or misleading. Perhaps both. Despite this fact, you question my credibility. Very telling indeed, sir.

Mr. Harper lied about making a $50,000 cash deal with Alan Riddell to step aside in the last election. What else is Mr. Harper lying about?

  • Really---and, again---where is the inquiry, the RCMP investigation, the conviction? Where, where, where?

Frankly, you are demonstrating a question on your credibility with each post.

Will you answer the question? Yes or No--were the lie-berals convicted of corruption?

    Simple one word answer please!!!!

(Note: the snickering is becoming outright laughing by many at your position--or lack, thereof.)

  • I appreciate your frankness and candour.

I am not interested in the truths we already know: $100 million went to Liberal-friendly ad agencies for little or no work in the Sponsorship Scandal. An inquiry was made, a few of its recommendations adopted by our current Conservative government, I'm happy to know the truth.

I'd like to know (like most Canadians) if there's any truth to allegations against our ruling party. There seems to be a mountain of evidence. If that makes me biased, so be it.

  • You are not interested in the truths we already know....however, you refuse to admit to those truths. WHAT IS THE ISSUE? Simply (please care more about Canada than the lie-berals) state the truth...Lie-berals were convicted of disgusting corruption...clock is ticking my friend on your credibility..don't disappoint.

  • I am saying that it is of little use to focus every bit of our attention on what we already know when there are are clear and present unknowns.

If anything, we Canadians should learn from our past and question today.

  • My goodness--today's newspapers and media outlets are screaming about Corbeill (Mr. Lie-beral organizer and backroom boy) being charged with the kickbacks and corruption in the lie-beral sponsorship scandal. Clearly, these items you may wish were in the past but show the continuing corruption of the lie-beral party. Look at the newspaper yourself!

  • Excellent, glad to see someone serve their due.

  • I'm sure you are glad that we (Canadians) give the lie-berals their due and make sure lie-berals never get close to power for say....ten years. For the good of Canada I'm sure you agree....right?

  • Yes.

And if our Conservative government deserves it, they should get their due.

    For the good of Canada.

  • And since the lie-berals were proven corrupt....ten years actually seems generous to most until them having a chance to return to power.

  • And if our current Conservative government has broken the law?

I'm not really interested in playing favourites here. That's more than I can say for you.

  • Same here...can we both agree...let the courts decide. (No guity until proven innocent--right?)

  • Definitely.

And if it's within its mandate, let Parliament decide too.

"Public trust must be consistently earned for a politician to be effective.

Ongoing accountability defines the evolution of the relationship between the politician and the public."

  • Well said.

  • Sadly, you say your not interested in playing favourities....and, then you do!

I always find it so interesting, lie-beral supporters say they are middle-of-the-road; yet, they have a more self-serving agenda than the Conservatives. Here is the proof: if the Conservatives had done to Canada what the lie-berals did, I would not vote for them. Can you make the same statement about you and the lie-berals?

  • Of course not, you know that. Stop putting words in my mouth.

Any politician, of whatever party, deserves justice *if* he or she has violated the public's trust. Just because you associate with a party that runs on a "righteous" platform doesn't spare you from the scrutiny of the public, in whatever forum necessary.

I don't give anyone a free pass, if that's what you're trying to insinuate in your baited replies. Rather, trust is earned with me. Fishy smells certainly don't help win my trust.

  • No one is "putting words in your mouth"--that is a nonsense statement! I just asked if I have higher standards that you in my statement about what the lie-berals did and me holding the Conservatives to account if they were guilty of similar practices. Okay?

(I always it interesting that holding lie-beral supporters to account with specific questions is baiting....just wondering....)

  • This is a nothing-matter. Goodale confirmed the worst fears of the Liberals when he HAD to say that this wasn't "small stuff."

If the Conservatives were creative in challenging the election spending laws, that still does not make their gvt invalid.

Now, if they develop a record like: EH101, Tainted Blood, Airborne, Decade of Darkness, Billion Dollar Boondoggle, APEC, Shawinigate, and Sponsorship - THEN I won't vote for them.

We're still waiting for the Liberals to repay $40 million...

  • Oh? And the proof of that is... What?

  • Proof of?

  • Nothing matter? I'm sorry sir, I can't accept the "nothing to see here, move along" line when deciding whether or not I trust a group of politicians.

I don't care if you're Liberal, NDP, Bloc, or Conservative, if there's questions to be asked in whatever arena, they need to be asked. I have enough critical thinking skills to make an informed decisions, based upon the answers to these questions. I demand they are asked.

I refuse to make a shipwreck of conscience based on the whims of passion.

  • Then you also have to ask what is motivating the people asking the questions. Since Harper was elected, the Liberals, NDP, and Bloc have been trying to take advantage of Harper's minority Parliament. The media has been traditionally Liberal-Party friendly, but is enraged over Harper's decision to talk directly to Canadians.

So, with the Liberals desperate to regain power, the questions have to be asked of the questioners. As Cicero used to say, "Who benefits?"

  • I do agree with the above....why won't the lie-berals pay back the $40million? (It seems obvious to all that they should!)

  • liberals wont vote because they dont have public opinion. this guy is a joke. the CBC only cares about the liberals getting in. cbc giving away the public money to liberals and brainwashing the public is bullying
