he he, i can smell either (kinda obvs though cause everyones i've read cant!) but im kinda lucky in a way, coz my dad can smell either, so ive got someone to experience i with
The Five elements on the tongue are not the only taste we can differentiate in. i lost my sense of smell three years ago in a car accident. since then, i have eaten less, because the food doesn't taste as it used too. go out for grilling, your smell will drive your hunger, without being able to smell it is just another food for you. i used to love cinnamon buns, i haven't had any since my accident.
I was born with anosmia, I also have a very low sense of taste, I was tested by my doctor. According to my psyc teacher, asnomatics don't taste very well, we go for foods that FEEL good in our mouths.
taste and smell are the only "chemical" senses. The tongue can only distinguish 5 elements. There is no flavor or way to distinguish flavors without the smell. Smell is your first line of defense from certain dangers. If you live alone, you cannot smell leaking gas, spilled chemicals or smoke. You cannot tell if food is spoiled (man - that one has bitten me a few times) If you are like me, and you have smelled these things and now you cannot - and will not ever again. I call that a disability.
Well, I am anosmic as well and i am sure my taste is not like it should be because what we taste is only salt, sugar, saur, etc.. no aromas nothing like this.. only the things you taste with the thongue.. think about it. you don´t have all tast if you don´t smell. impossible.
Im Anosmic aswell thats cool never seen anyone else with it! I can taste but rely on other peoples noses. Sometimes my family forgets and shoves food in my face.
haha i'm anosmic too, and freetoys, the taste question KILLS me! every time i tell someone i'm anosmic for the first time i go ahead and say i can taste.
The question I get most, after my anosmia is revealed, is "Can you taste?" I'm sure that question makes sense to people who can smell, but they are still two different senses. You don't ask a blind person, "Well, can you hear?" Mostly because if the answer was yes, they most likely wouldn't have gotten the question...
