The Gtx 580 3x 4way SLI CUDA accelerated Cluster at my work produces more sound than a GTX 590, still who cares about noise... whats annoying is that the room youre standing in reaches 37C ambient temps, when the AC-system breaks down...

Noise is irrelevant, i want performance. I still drench the sound in my games...

also you gotta consider that the 590 is not a blower fan style and its more of a blade fan which really is quieter but runs hotter cause it sucks at pushing air on the inside of the card properly unlike the 6990, 6990 blows the air on the both sides of the graphics card much better than the 590 therefore idk how loud it is i just want my performance and cool temps so thats why i go with 6990.

You can set the cooling-fan speed with AMD VISION Engine Control Center with AMD Overdrive or using MSI Afterburner. Its louder cause it cools more -.-

6990 can run 5 monitors... 590 can run 4. for multimonitor gaming, you should use an odd number of monitors so crosshairs or text is not spanned between two displays. i dont have either but 6990 wins imo.

if the card is noisy, means is pushing a lot of air true the fins, I like that my video card runs cooler an last longer, that run silent and last less time.

What I hate is when people compare acoustics without matching the temperatures of the cards. You cannot blindly say, oh this is 10 decibels quieter but only 3 degrees hotter. That means nothing, a single degree can cause a decibel increase of that much. Manually set the fan such that the temperatures are the same and THEN measure how loud the card is.

Wow.. i have a 6990, and you need to get a different program like, msi afterburner for fan control, of course, for amd they make it so the fan runs more but on nvidia they let it run quieter and let it get hotter, in a case you can tell much of a difference...
