@funnyent Not dumb at all. :) Walk up service is when instead of bringing their cans to the curb, residents leave them at the side of the house. The collectors then either carry the cans to the truck, use satellite trucks like the ones shown here, use large barrel looking container on their backs, or a wheelbarrow/wagon. My City of Coral Gables video shows the wagon method.
Awesome work, very cool system with all the satellite trucks which I assume are owned by the city, as is the truck? It's also neat how the tipper bodies are controlled by the guy operating the RL.
What's that large black box on the side of the tailgate of the EZ Pack that you can kind of see around 4:50? Thank you for the post.
Actually a free floating blade has more moving parts. For example on a McNeilus you have a slide/carrier that rides on 4 nylatron plastic wear shoes that last 5-6 years before needing replacement. The sweep blade pivots just like the EZ Pack so you have two grease zerks there. The ez pack has slide stabilized bars that require greasing unlike a Heil/McNeilus setup. The cycle time on an EZ Pack is something like 28-30 seconds- slow. Craw inside the body in a Goliath it's all stich welded.
notice at around 1:20 how if the hopper was any fuller the sweep would have pushed all of the trash on the ground. There is a reason EZ Pack is the ONLY mfg. who still uses a free floating blade. And with a load edge 3" higher than a McNeilus or Heil you would be wore our on routes with heavy items/extras. I like how they also don't have L.E.D.'s on this unit as it's only been standard equip with good mfg. for 5-6 years now...
@clowntownify The hopper is actually much deeper than it looks, I thought this was a poor design too at first glance. That part at around 1:20 was a huge pile, at least 4 cy. yds. worth, and any other truck would have trouble packing it all in one cycle. The swing blade design allows for a lot less wear parts, and a smoother packing cycle. And I'm pretty sure LEDs are still not standard on most bodies, all the smaller local haulers' new trucks still have incandescents.
@clowntownify I love the EZ paks, it is too bad the EZ paks like dempster ROUTE KINGs kick out garbage like that back onto the road. Are you a fan of the Heils andéor McSqueeezus trucks
Wow-Wow-Wow!!!! I've never seen anything like this before -- is this some kind of service where the satellite trucks cruise the streets and the residents come out and load the containers up themselves??? Very cool system, definitely something I wouldn't find on my side of the world... this must be a pretty rare thing to find. Thanks for catching this on video!
Awesome rear loader to be starring in this too; never seen such awesome E-Z Pack RL footage. Fantastic work on getting those pack cycles at the start and then all those satellites loading up. Really funnyy hearing the light sound of the satellite's small pump and then the heavy duty Mack engine roar into life!!! =] Seemed like she was packing out towards the end... must get loaded pretty quickly with this quick system. Guaranteed fav, 5* and soon-to-be featured. Simply terriffic work! :D
Its kind of the opposite, the collectors will pull up into a driveway to dump cans. Some people place their garbage cans in the driveway right outside the garage, others keep the cans at the side of the house. The area is full of older retired people, so most opt for the walk up service. This system was once much more popular, there are some pics and information on it on CRT.
Oh I gotya, pretty handy service by the sounds of it... guess it means some people never have to put out the cans for collection =] Down here the elderly service involves the drivers jumping out of the truck, running to and grabbing the bins, dumping them, putting them back and getting back to the truck... would be annoying. I'll take a look at CRT, bet it has everything I'd need to know :) Thanks again!
3.7 cubic yards is swept, that truck has a lip on the hopper sill for rear load cans.....trust me man, these are really great trucks, so are most of them out there these days!
this is the stupidest way of collecting solid waste.... i have ever seen.. very unefficent

The truck ended up being around 3/4 full, the driver just didn't bother moving the ejector forward, and thanks.
