I have both versions of Karoraa XGL OS and I'm going to install it on my new Asus G2S-A4 gaming laptop. I can't imagine how all those fools with Mac's in my class going to react after seeing me play with it during class! The will be in awe for sure!
I suggest a fresh distro such as Kubuntu or Ubuntu or Suse 10.3. They have new and better kernel, plus you can utilize Compiz Fusion without XGL, using direct rendering (nvidia).
I'm now about to reinstall another distro (maybe *ubuntu) btw installation is quite easy on nvidia cards, and I would install CompizFusion, resulting from reunion of beryl and compiz teams.
Its really cool but my laptop is made by Toshiba and they like to put crappy ATI Graphics cards that don't work with beryl or any other cool linux stuff!
hey, take a look at that key in between your CTRL and ALT key. what is on it? oh, yeah, thats what i thought, the Windows logo, don't you forget it. PS, Vista Ultimate wins.
oh i almost forgot.. why did ur screen go all watery? and I saw some other XGL Programs where when it was a cube it was translucent.. can you do that on urs?
@ the video end I'm showing the water fx, a compiz plugin.
yes I saw other cool effects :-) At the moment I have "old" XGL + Compiz duo, so when I'll install new Suse (10.2) I'll push on Beryl and related cool fx, such as the fire thing and other.... :-)
I think HD rpms do not influence so hard XGL performance, graphic card DOES... btw my HD is 100Gb @ 7200 rpm, the best choice IMHO: I mean, if u need more space, just buy an external HD... :-)
Does the speed of the HD matters with such performance? I ordered everything high and 2.16 Ghz, 512 MB GO GTX videocard and all, but accidently picked the wrong HD.
yes, that's right: you can run 3D programs *inside* xgl-rendered-windows. If u plan to use it for 3d modeling (win or linux) I think it's the best choice.
were you running a 3d program as well? I'm waiting for my XPS M1710 to be shipped. I'm mainly going to be using it for 3D modeling and doing displacement maps in zbrush.
so does it play pc games or just piece of shit like mac

I must admit that XGL is amazing, way better than Aero, but some visual effects are copied from Exposé and Aqua...
