  • You give me the courage to change my name. I really want to change it. But I'm scared it will take too long. Do you remember how lon it took from the submission of the papers till your name change was approved? Thank you for any help you can provide. I live in NY.

  • @mrissamusica I submitted my paperwork to get a court date, and the date they gave me was about three weeks after that. I was given a certified copy when I left that day, and received another in the mail in a week. Since you live in NY, I would recommend checking out the sylvia rivera law project website, they have a step by step procedure for how to change your name if you live in NY. youtube won't let me post a link, just google "sylvia rivera law project name change." Good luck!

  • Thanks for responding don't really get any that much. Well so far I've only needed one but still have lots to change. Thanks again =)

  • How many certified copies did you end up needing. I only got one as well but seems that I may need more California cost is $25 plus the copy .50 cents. =/

  • @bobbysaka2003 So far (almost two years after legally changing my name) I've only needed one. I've been able to just make copies of the certified order when I need to submit proof of my name change. I think if you were ever in a situation where you absolutely needed another copy you could buy it when you needed it, otherwise just go with one copy.

  • @rocknjay ah, in that case, i wouldn't be worried if i were you. all you need to do is that you want to change your name because you don't like it. as long as you aren't changing it to avoid a felony you'll be fine

  • @rocknjay my court date was scheduled three weeks after i went in initially, it was approved, and then i got my certified copy in the mail about a week and a half later.

since you live in NY, the trans legal defense & education fund would be a good thing to check out. they can help you with the request, help figure out money, and what to do if the judge denies your request. google "transgender legal defense fund the name change project," that should get you to the site.

    good luck!

  • @rocknjay it was speedy. i live in minnesota, the process can vary from state to state. I got my documents together: letter from doctor, court order request, copy of my tax return. Tax return was to file for a court fee waiver, I wasn't making much money. When I went in, person who approved the waivers was out, so I set up a court date for about 3 weeks away, the office called to confirm that my fee waiver had been approved. It was $160 w/out the waiver. Feel free to message me for more info

  • cool!

  • Thanks for sharing your court results, i have mine in next 7 hours, im frustrated and happy at the same time, ehh im going by myself so hopefully the judge is nice, never know in this close minded town, but your video made me feel better. As far as shots dont worry, it will hurt for while and you'll get used to it. im happy for you:)

  • i think hear the changes in your voice already. :) congrats on your name change!!

  • thanks! i haven't heard any differences personally, but i've had a few people comment they have which is awesome!

  • congrats man, thought about you yesterday. glad it went through =]

  • *grin* thanks. i was way more nervous about it than i should've been

  • trust, i was for mine, too.

  • YAAAAAAAAAAAY!

  • Hey hey, Congrats Dylan!!! That is so bad ass. You're well on your way my friend. I'm so happy for you =)
