  • So what do I say if I'm a ''haafu'', a person of dual nationality? I'm half portuguese and half german, I born and live a big part of my life in Germany but my father is portuguese and I have a very portuguese name (I also speak portuguese fluently), just like the german footballer Mario Gomez that is half spanish.

And England in Japanese wasn't イングランド (Ingurando)? Or all UK countries have the same name in Japanese?

  • what does shakaijin desu mean? or would i have to say watashi wa shakaijin desu. to make it complete??

  • Your lovely assistant is so cool!

  • What about Turkey? That's where I'm from^^

  • @S33LiN4 Turkey is Toruko in Japanese.

  • @109mytiger Thanks!

  • I've always wondered how do you say ''Latvia'' [It's a country, I live in it. lol] in Japanese.. hm.

  • @Miglord Thank you :)

  • what about welsh? the distinction between british, english and welsh is very important to us :)

  • Very helpful!!!! Thanks so much!!!

  • Does "watashi wa igirisu jin desu" mean "I am British" or "I am English?" Just coz when you did the "I am from england" one the "igirisu" was still there. I was just wondering coz I would say I am British but I'm not English. If it does mean "English", how do you say "I am Scottish?" :) Great video by the way, this series is really useful :)

  • @ChaeChaeChalupas i discovered that another name for UK is eikoku. it is possible that eikokujin is british and igirisujin is english, but I am not certain. I wish there was more education overseas about the difference between our people's, I do so hate it when people call me english. I'm welsh dammit.

  • @ChaeChaeChalupas It seems that 'igirisu' is indeed 'English'. As a fellow jock I just get by by saying 'Watashi wa Sukotturado jin desu'. :)

  • ありがとうございました。

  • I think I may be the first to say this.

    俺はプエルトリコ人です

  • Don't japanese usually avoid using anata?

  • Watashi wa Berugin jin desu! Arigatogozaimasu Bicta-san!

  • Could you just be lazy and just say "America"? :P

Thank you both for all your hard work on another great lesson.

  • @markshmily Yes, everybody will understand that. Do your best to use Japanese pronunciation, though.

  • I actually hear something along the lines of 「どこの出身(ですか)?」 the most and never hear it phrased as 「どこの人」. Sometimes people will ask me 「何人(ですか)?」 (なにじん) or 「どちらからいらしゃいましたか?」 . Other than the last one, maybe it`s kind of a regional thing?

Good tip though. Everyone always asks that question.
