  • Send your mum over here to the States, and my friend Bubba will give her 'The Black Experience!' It will do her good!

  • You are starting to bore me, you semi-literate wank. Sod off! I will delete untread any further messages from you. Tell Mum I said 'Hi,' and that she earned her money.

  • Who, your mum? She'll like Bubba's better! He could make love to the 'Chunnel!'

  • I'm not Black, I'm Irish-American (my parents are from Clare), you piece of racist rubbish. Stop the messages, I will delete all future ones unread.

  • It was on the "B" Side of his fabulous hit, "A Scottish Soldier"....

  • please subtitles !!!!! xD sounds really aswomes just wish i knew what it was bout ^^

  • Can't do subtitles as such, but here are the words for the first verse. You should be able to do a search on a good search engine for the lyrics, with a 'translation' of the Scottish dialect words:

At a relic aul' croft upon the hill,

Roon the neuk frae Sprottie's mill,

Tryin' a' his life tae jine the kill

    Lived Geordie MacIntyre.

    He had a wife a swir's himsel'

An' a daughter as black's auld Nick himsel',

There wis some fun-haud awa' the smell

At the muckin' o' Geordie's byre.

  • So it's in Scottish Gaelic?

  • TheNotsoGreatGatsby, no, it's Scots which is the language of Scotland (particularly the lowlands). It's the language which Robert Burns, the national poet, wrote in (it's related to English but has a stronger Germanic/Scandinavian grammar, I believe)

  • moominpic yes the Germanic/Scandinavian grammer ))) and pronouce id say ))

  • I think Billy Connelly would have seen through me. It was a piss take !!

  • legand :D x

  • i ger piz tintid i bizim wiiz deen and i beraa hid rowed its leen

    irz amazin!!!!!!! :¬)

bit yi hiv tae bee a guid scot tae understand it

  • Any chance of a translation? I'm only slightly Scottish...

  • If you listen again you`ll find a partial translation near the end,if ye canna mak oot fit he`s singin efter that then yer a gype :-)

  • Aye, 'the cleansing of geordie's cow shed'...

ye 'muck oot' the byre efter ye mulk the coo's (cye)... eh, you clean out... aw nivver mind...

  • Aye, one of the greats indeed

  • memories of nerday at my ol grannys.great times.nice one andy.

  • "sung in the true Scottish language." - strange, it doesnt sound much like Gaelic. Sounds a lot more like Scottish English.

  • The song originated in NE Scotland and some of the words are local to the dialect from that region. If you're keen to nit pick, here are the words for you to mull over of the first verse:

At a relic aul' croft upon the hill,

Roon the neuk frae Sprottie's mill,

Tryin' a' his life tae jine the kill

    Lived Geordie MacIntyre.

    He had a wife a swir's himsel'

An' a daughter as black's auld Nick himsel',

There wis some fun-haud awa' the smell

At the muckin' o' Geordie's byre.

  • Elthamlass, those lyrics are the Robert Burns ones, not the ones Andy sings.

  • Robert Burns? Please show me a link for Robert Burns' version of this! I'd LOVE to see that!!! The lyrics shown by me ARE the ones sung by Andy Stewart - listen carefully!

  • Hi,

I've sent the links to you. The choruses are different and the songs are slightly different stories.

  • aats a braa tune ken :D

ah wis haein a rare rave awa tee it! ;)

  • My Grandma LOVED Andy Stewart. This makes me think of her and happy holidays in - of all places - Cambuslang. Not exactly a prime vacation spot...but I'll always remember it through the filter of Grandma and grandpa. And the tram from Burnside, past Shawfield Stadium, through Rutherglen, into Glasgow. Different times. The ice cream man and double nuggets! Trips to Ibrox (I'man atheist now!)

  • bring back the White Heather Club

  • sung in the true Scottish language.

  • Again thanks for posting.

    jtmcl

  • Fantastic! Thanks so much for posting this, remember it from years ago - never fails to raise a smile.

  • Thank you!!! Now this is one I would have loved the lyrics to. I'm sure some of the words I sing along are not quite accurate hahaha!
