I like the way Sammet's voice cracks at times and reaches those power metal-esque notes, I love Kursch's voice when he unleashes all that wild power, and Khan's voice becomes endearingly soft for ballads and incredibly earth-shattering in others. They all have diverse, wonderful voices!

Not keen on the male vocalist - sounds a bit manic - as if he's 'on something'. A bit of sanity is restored when the inestimable Sharon comes in at 2.35. But alas not for long enough before the 'manic one' returns - more 'off the scale' than ever. The guitar solo is third (sorry tenth) rate. All in all Sharon (who is a lovely lass) deserves much better.

@GingerPhilG I meant the vocals, not instrumentally. I believe i ran out of room when writing my 1st comment. I was referring more to a band like The Pogues, Flogging Molly, or The Dropkick Murphys. In my opinion, their style of singing would sound better with (at least) part of the vocals (namely the chorus). This guy's singing was far too flowery for a "metal opera."

This song has heavy celtic/irish overtones. If that was reflected in the vocals, I would've liked it more. That was my point.

@Rofl4Waffles - Are we talking about the same "The Pogues" here? Shane McGowan? If so, I will respectfully suggest you're mad. If you don't like Kiske's songs then don't listen. I would also say that, as he didn't write this (to the best of my knowledge) he will have sung the lyrics presented to the music played. I don't think he will have had much input into what pitch he sings at as that will be dictated by the former two factors mentioned. I guess you wont listen to much David Surkamp then?

@GingerPhilG I was referring to a style of music: Irish Metal/Rock n Roll. I ran out of room when making my original comment, so I listed The Pogues. I honestly don't know enough Irish Metal/Rock bands to pick the best one for this song. The Pogues aren't metal, but they have celtic influences.

Tobias Sammett is the author of A Metal Opera. He is also the vocalist who plays Gabriel, the male lead. Kiske is another character, Lugaid. He sings, but isn't a soloist on here. It's on wikipedia.

@GingerPhilG Also. I wasn't commenting on his range. It's cool that he can reach the lower alto range (exaggerating)... but I don't find that hardcore in the least. So many metal bands have flowery tenor vocalists and I don't find high pitched "rockers" to be hardcore. I'm not a fan of "screamers" or emo-crap, but I'd rather hear more vocalists like Rammstein's lead singer. Someone with more power behind their voice... Tenors singing about battle... it's like get some testosterone ffs.
