minor correction-on video it has the songwriter's first names mixed up-should be Arthur Schwartz/Howard Dietz - if I wrote such a wonderful song I'd want them to get my name right:)
Vera lynn is not an underrated singer. She was popular at her time in the early forties during the Blitz.. I'm from the Philippines and I was born after World War II but ive acquired some of her songs in cassette tapes even 40 years after the war. This woman is an icon.
Vera was the top of the heap back in 1945 give or take either side. What is happening is, with Youtube now the lone exception, you cannot easily find Vera or many others from those days in performance anywhere and only by the grace of God and youtube, do we have here here. I'd like to offer personal thanks to whomever uploaded these vids.
Love Vera Lynn's voice, been a fan since late 70's when I purchased an old 45 record at a resale shop. A Blessing listening to her here and revisit her vocals on the many other recordings of her beautiful voice.
Vera Lynn...How could you not be moved by her singing. She was a master of song> ! She sang from the heart..she sang her soul ..her true spirit and this is refreshing in today' s music market.
why are you saying she's under-rated? Her career spans decades with many hit songs. She's a Dame of England, quoted by Pink Floyd, licensed by Stanley Kubrik. She's a legend.
A little songbird from Heaven! God had a reason for placing Vera Lynn here during the war years. It was His way of giving solace to the troops and the folks back home, and the wide world too even now today. Thanks RReady! ;- )
On December 24,2006 at 8 o'clock in the morning, a young 14 year old boy by the name of Scott Jackson was found dead.Doctors couldn't come up with the cause of his death. His mother checked his emails to see if she could figure out what happened.Turns out he was still signed into myspace. She found he had gone to sleep after he read and didn't repost a chain letter.if you don't repost this to 6 videos a girl with no face will kill you tonight. sorry don't wanna die
I love this song and until now thought Dinah Shore's was the best; but my hat is off to you, Vera. With that catch in your throat and your unique sound you have made me a fan.
I was raised on all of her songs. Dad was WW2Vet....he called her "Horse Face" and absolutely adored her. Ah!! The Memories. Thanks so very much for this.
This is the tune Cary Grant whistles in Mr Lucky - at quite a different pace!

Such a lovely voice.
For some reason, I am now unable to locate her version of Auf Wiederseh'n on You Tube. I hope someone else puts that one up again.

Great singers like Dame Vera put the talents of the likes of Susan Boyle in perspective.

Good to see Dame Vera at number one in the UK album charts. Just need Gracie Fields to be up there with her!

perhaps littleharpy meant Dame Vera is not as well-known as she deserves to be in the twenty-something set?

shes is totally underrated, her voice is uplifting and soothing all at the same time.
