  • No problem finding parts, I just came off a vessel with 2 of these D398s and parts are readily available to order.

  • 777F has a C32 ACERT Engine...

  • is this engine stronger than my hampster inside his spinning wheel?

  • good luck with finding parts...

  • @hwoods01 Why good luck with finding parts? My company has a whole package of parts for the D398 and D399 available if you're interested.

  • There are many of this engines operating as new in Perú specially in TASA

  • What do some people refer to caterpillar engines as kitty cat? I don't see the relationship between a caterpillar and kitty cat.

  • A lot different engine than the D-349, which I had a LOT of time on. The 3500s are garbage compared to either...throw-aways.

  • Now to fit it in my wrangler....

  • That's the Hindenberg replica motor. Only 2 in existence.

  • Will that fit in a Corsa?

  • @cjellwood nope

  • Sweet sounding gen set

  • our dh locos have that engine heaps of power but to light for a loco.

  • @dognz09 No such thing as "too light for a loco." (Yeah, spelling corrected too.)

The big battle for years was to get power/weight HIGH enough for practical diesel locomotives.

Ever hear of "ballast"? Think concrete a/r.

  • how many liters is this engine?

  • 48,3 ltr.

  • @jvde1970 WTF O_O XD aaah es una bestia ¬¬

  • How many hours on the engine?

  • 43000 2 years ago

  • @jvde1970

Have it been opened, in those 43000 hours.

  • @johnsenkenn only 1 overhaul

  • nice

  • tank

  • it sounded like it was turning out about 6 RPM!!!

  • @scootdog5 more like 100 - 150

  • Brings back memories. I worked on G398 AND G399 gensets back in the 80's and90's. We would set them up to run on methane gas. Nice vid.

  • We still have these in the oil fields of new mexico running on conventional gas

  • When I used to work in the oil field out in West Texas for Win-Tex Drilling, back in the early 90,s the rigs I worked on all had these engines on the mud pumps, very reliable workhorses.

  • MWM Engine Power blows this little think away

  • We hooked a lot of 398's and 399's up to Kato generators, sold a lot of them oversea.

  • well the story goes cats gensets were not selling abroad and couldnt break the african asian and middle east as fg wilson had the market share then cat tried to undercut selling at a loss but it still didnt work so they bought 50% of fg wilson of general electric then took full control this now days most of the cat gensets has a perkins engine in them and are made by fg wilson

  • Most of the ones we set up were for military use

  • Still used and very common in the oil and gas industry. Very reliable. Fuel comsumption not that good tho, but the oil industry is not too fussed about fuel used while working.

  • D398 also used in GE locomotives UM 10b

  • That takes me back...I worked on a ship years ago that had three D399s for electrical generation. The D399 was V-16 and identical to the one you showed with the exception of 4 cylinders. Thanks for posting.

  • the company i worked for had a few tugboats with these as well as the D399. we've been taking the 398s out and swapping them for Detroit MTU 4000 series(which suck in workboat app.), and the 399s for 3516s. this is a great engine though, i just didn't like the one head for 2 cylinders design.

  • I'm not familiar with the Detroit MTU in

" workboat applications "......why, in your

opinion do they " suck "......not enough

lugging power compared to the long stoked D 398's or what ?? Thanks.

  • That is great music, plese make a longer video!!
