  • Only cartoon theme I can remember that was done in a minor key.

  • I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank the people that created "Underdog". Not the least of which was Wally Cox. I spent many happy Saturday mornings anticipating this show.

  • That theme sticks with me all these decades later - so deep, so rich - I love it!!!!! I agree with all of you: cartoons today are nothing more than a vehicle to market imported crap. What happened?????

  • Is it me or does Simon Bar Sinister look a lot like Pope Benedict

  • I love the ad for "Downton Abbey" running during the "Underdog" theme. Does YouTube think there's a crossover market for that?

  • ooooooo aaaaaaaa ooooooooooo...

  • I used to love this cartoon when I was a kid.

  • @Tex035 i loved the cartoon as well.

  • God I miss this Dog and I will Never forget Wally Cox as Underdog

  • i'm practicly 15, and i miss this show! i have 2 volumes of Underdog and still dont have enough! i wish Underdog would come back. they played him on Boomerang years ago. that's how i first saw and heard about Underdog. i know this is a long shot, but when i'm older, I WILL bring Underdog back on tv!

  • Did you know the girl who played Nellie Olsen on "Little House On The Prairie", well her mother was the voice of Polly Purebread

  • Who between the ages of like 45-55 doesen't remember this..and all the lyrics! I'm 49 & I feel like I'm kid again! This meant one thing...Simon Barsinister or Riff Raff were in for a butt-whoopin. I loved Underdog!

  • Now if it were only longer...like two minutes.

  • Hearing that old cartoon song makes me Happy!

  • underdog is one of the best theme songs from that era and i bought a CD of theme songs just so i could enjoy them whenever i wanted.

  • I really feel sorry for kids of today, they have to grow up with terrible cartoons, compared to what we grew up with in the 60s & 70s. Back then the cartoons were actually funny, and the now-simplistic-looking animation was cutting edge for TV.

Nowadays, the studios in the U.S. make flat, simplistic, crappy cartoons because they want to save a buck on costs. And they have no idea how to be funny, so they settle for stupid and crass, instead.

  • @ReneandMae I agree with you 100%....Its all about quantity instead of quality........

  • @ReneandMae dont forget the 90's, the last great era for cartoons

  • @ReneandMae The terribleness of today's cartoons has nothing on that of those in the eighties, in my opinion.

  • @JackTron7000 Well yeah, a lot of the 80's cartoons were glorified toy commercials, but there were a few good ones, you just had to look for them.

  • @ReneandMae I'm sorry, but I'm tried of seeing comments like these whenever I want to see vintage stuff like 80s video games or 60s shows. I thought we view this stuff so we can ENJOY ourselves, not to depress us further.

If you want to do something about it, make your own cartoon. Just enjoy the memories.

  • @Davtwan If reading a comment from someone can depress you so easily, here's a bit of advice: "Don't read the comments!" I personally don't let some simple comment on an online blog bother me one way or the other.

  • @Davtwan When I watched this clip for fun, the nostalgic feeling I felt also made me feel sad that today's kids' cartoons are not as entertaining as these old programs from the past are. On the flip side, the animated movies that come out today offer far more variety and entertainment for kids and families than getting just one Disney cartoon every 2 or 3 years, so there are trade-offs.

  • @ReneandMae you said a mouthful brutha

  • @ReneandMae - It's worse than that. There is the added, depressing aspect that today's cartoons are aimed at making kids into politically correct, tree-hugging "citizens of the world."

  • @65kowalski - Boy, isn't that the truth? I loved being able to watch cartoons without any message shoved in our faces about how to act or what to think or believe. We actually got that stuff back then from our parents! Imagine that! Cartoons were just for entertainment, for having fun; just you, your siblings, and bowls of cold cereal, and we were happy like that.

  • This theme song always ment one thing.

Awesomeness was about to appear on my television, and I was happy to watch.

  • wow ! this was one of my favorite cartoons... haven't heard that song since childhood and I recognized it as soon as it started, lolololo... thanks :)

  • oh man!! memory lane! Sweet Polly Purebred, Simon Bar Sinister...too funny

  • i 4 got about this show when did this show air 80s?

  • @jeff5882174 Nope. While the 80's produced some cool music and TV, this little gem of a cartoon came from the early to mid 60's.

  • I LOVE THE SONG. I REALLY DO. =D

  • For those of you interested:

Yesterday morning I saw the entire Underdog series on DVD in - believe it or not - the gift shop of a local Cracker Barrel restaurant. $20 for the entire series, I'm pretty sure. It's the only place I've ever seen it, although to be honest I've never tried eBay.

  • Why does this song sound depressing.

  • @2071Johnny

Depressing? I don't know...I've always thought it was a wonderfully exciting theme song. This sounds crazy - REALLY crazy - but even at age 52 the song still gives me goosebumps. Must be 'cause I grew up with it.

  • I loved this when I was a kid but he does have that dependency issue.

  • underdoooog :)

  • wtf?

  • Underdog with the energy pill, yeah, all he had to do is take and get it over with. He also kept messing up with Polly Purebread too,she was the only female Beagle in the whole city.

  • This is mi fave show of allll time XD I watched it when I was really little cuz I'm kinda little now but o.o ya

  • I'm here becaouse I'm old and remember watching this when I was little.

  • This was one of my favorites when I was a kid he used to make me mad with that energy pill wanted him to just take the thing they would always drag that part out

  • have no fear, UNDERDOG IS HERE!

  • You just got to love a crook who laughs at what he's doing while doing it.

  • no worries guys, I'm here

  • We need Underdog today- to fight against republican teabaggers attacking America.

  • @av8tor17b Underdog would forget his original duty, and opt out instead , sucking on their TeaBags...

  • @av8tor17b Right on. The people are way,way too stupid and ignorant to be stewards of their own money. All power to the brilliant solomons in Washington DC!

  • (under dog charges at simon) underdog:GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM HER (simon gasps)simon:OH SHIT

  • SPEED OF LIGHTING ROAR OF THUNDER FIGHTING ALL WH OROB OR PLUNDER

  • she [polly] looks like sue simmons,"what the fuck are you doin!"

  • polly-purebread,looks like a foxy interracial chick..did i say that ?

  • the evil scientist, is obviously based on boris karloff. looks a lot like him.......

  • @brainsareus The evil scientits head looks like a molar

  • The authorities are ineffective, thus the need for a super-vigilante like UDog. The masses in this show are cowed bystanders -- often mouthing the same helpless phrases simultaneously. The villains are bad. Sweet Polly is spunky, but IIRC never acts to help herself out of the weekly kidnap situation or whatever.

  • classic!

  • 22 people thieve and plunder.

  • i <3 underdog

  • I've always loved " Underdog" great clip, thanks for sharing this, I've recently made a video for a song called "Buy a Dog" check it out, you may like it. youtube.com/watch?v=2acYxdU-POw

  • I remember watching this as a kid! It used to be one of my fave shows. I even remember buying one of the DVDs before the tower records in my town closed down.

  • I'm here because RZA is a genius and Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nothin' Ta Fuck Wit! 0:04 - 0:09

  • who the fuck are the 22 people who disliked underdog???

  • Sweet Polly was voiced by Norma McMillan, the mother of Alison Arngrim of Little House.

  • Cute. I used to watch in the 90's with Astro Boy, Speed Racer, and Wacky Races. Ah, memories...

  • Check out

    'Underdog Cartoon 2011'

  • this one of my favorite cartoons in the afternoon when i got home from school

  • Simon Bar Sinister and his stooge Cad. Plus.....best use of an accordian for a TV cartoon show.

  • Bar-none my favorite superhero EVER. Reminds me of a much happier time in America and in my life.

  • Underdog rules!

  • HAHA I LIKE IT :))))))

  • my question is why the fuck did he build that contraption just to catch one dog.......anf why is that dog wearing such sexy cloths?......great show though

  • This was NOT the opening of the show, but WAS used in seasons One (1964-65) and Two (1965-66) just before the second "Underdog" segment in each show (in those seasons, there were two "Underdog" segments in each show with other Total Television-produced cartoons in-between).

  • i like the real version better

  • Underdog: "When Polly's in trouble I am not slow, it's hip hip hip and away I gooooooo!"

Sweet Polly Purebred: "Oh where oh where has my Underdog gone? Oh where oh where can he beee?"

Simon BarSinister: "Oh Christ! I forgot about the awful singing! I'd rather just let her fucking go! A lot better than hearing her bellow like a cat in heat!"

  • Yours truly......

  • Underdog ain't nuthin' ta fuck wit

  • I've never heard of it nefore, but I bet it was interesting

  • This is miles and miles better then any cartoon series produced today!!!

  • @MrScottx Hummmm, yeah, no. I'll take Batman or Animaniacs over Underdog any day.

  • @MrScottx South Park. Family Guy. Simpsons. Fuck your argument.

  • R.I.P. to the great Wally Cox, the voice of Underdog. Classic cartoon series.

  • thumbs up if sheed brought you here

  • When in this world the headlines read

Of those who's hearts are filled with greed

And rob and steal from those in need.

To right this wrong with blinding speed goes

  • This looks like hana barbera's work... id recognise that style of drawing anywhere

  • @IsllayGirls im pretty sure Joseph Harris did Underdog, similar styles though

  • @sixthsense3 Oh, i never heard of him... The similarities are amazing though. I guess it was a common style back in those years.

  • holy shit i remember watching this as a kid.....

  • Sunday mornings, after Bullwinkle. The best of times.

  • can you belive that Wu Tang Clan sampled this to make thier 'Ain't Nothin ta F' With' track.

  • good song. i like it.

  • oh wow - it was /originally/ acapella.

  • I don't understand how the girl wasn't cut in half by his robot's sharp claws.

  • So whats the connection with ROCKY and BULLWINKLE ?

  • :P

  • 45 years later and I still love this :)

  • Underdog was WAY cooler than Mighty Mouse. I remember this from the 60's very well. Simon Barsinister & Riff Raff better prepare for a real ass whoopin......

  • ???????

  • Absolutely Wally Cox, Don Adams was Inspector Gadget.

  • @dougherj

Don Adams was also Tennessee Tuxedo.

  • Under dog's voice artist was Little Wally Cox. Also one of the great toon theme songs.

  • Under dog's voice artist was Little Wally Cox.

  • I think Don Adams did the voice of Underdog. This was back when cartoons were "primitive," but they were still some of the best cartoons ever. They were definitely geared toward kids and the family.

  • @HVACSoldier WRONG! He did the voice of Tennesse Tuxedo you moron!

  • My name is Simon Bar Sinister, and I have invented a machine that picks up bitches in its teeth.

  • @JoshMaxMusic Due to context there is now swear word in this comment >:D

  • @kingman1245 Heck, by extension, this was the first cartoon with a curse word. And Simon Bar Sinister was an aptly named bastard.

  • OK all you Star Trek fans:

Have you noticed how Sweet Polly Purebred in Underdog looks just like Grace Lee Whitney - who played yeoman Janice Rand - in the original-series Star Trek?

I can't imagine it being intentional, or was it?

  • By far, my favorite cartoon as an 8-year-old!

And to think I grew up to have a boss (who is now retired) that looked just like Simon Bar Sinister!!!

  • I was in an interview years ago and it was a panel of people (maybe 6 or 7) and they were grilling me righteously - I started to panic but then I thought of this song and I got the job! Who says kids cartoons don't mean anything? Thanks for the post!

  • Why Did They Take The Best Cartoon's Off T.V.?

  • Pretty sweet.

  • i watched this as a kid in the 90's when nickelodeon showed them... man these were classic!! nothing is the same these days!!

  • I actually own one of the Underdog comic books with "Riff Raff" and underdog on the cover still. Thank you for posting. It has brought back memories.

  • The thumbnail to this looks like a seane from cartoon porn

  • Italian language it has called Ughetto cane perfetto!

  • WU TANG CLAN AIN'T NUTHIN' TO FUCK WITH!!

  • It's a plane! It's a bird! No, It;s just lil ol me... UNDERDOG!!

  • CLASSIC

  • I do not remember that opening at all.

  • Did he have a mental issue? His cranium looks like someone who would have a mental defect.

    GOD I LOVED THIS CARTOON.

  • @Killzone0001 ...err, this isn't a "modern day alteration". The Underdog Show had several cartoons in it (like Tennessee Tuxedo) and this was just one of the "bumpers" for the Underdog cartoon within the show. There's another one like this with Riff Raff and the one with that giant guy.

  • it was the best cartoon ever ! enyone know where i can find torrent or somethink with it ?

  • THERES NO NEED TO FEAR! UNDERDOG IS HERE!

  • Kind of reminds me of Obama - the long face, the big, protruding ears, always trying to save everyone. Even the theme fits ... rather than saying Un - der - dog you can say O - ba -ma.

  • this was one of my all time favorite Saturday morning cartoons. I was so disappointed when it was made into a movie they did such a bad job and my kids couldn't see why I like it when i was there age....

  • 18 people are super losers. those 18 are the people that dislike this

  • This is not the original opening I remember! It had Sweet Polly hollering Help! Help! Help! Then shoeshine boy would turn into Underdog! Damn all these modern day alterations to original works and memories. If anyone knows or can post the original opening I'd be so grateful! Thanks

  • You go Underdog!

  • This was one of my favorite cartoons of choice when I was 8 years old.

  • I remember when Wally Cox, the voice of Underdog, died and Peter Marshall said it right.

"Dear God, there's no need to fear...Underdog is near."

    RIP, Wally.

  • It's been 16 years since I've heard this theme song. Ah, sweet nostalgia! This song is still stuck inside my mind, and I hope I'll never forget it.

  • Wow!!! O_O I didn't know the theme song to this was so BADASS :D

  • +JVA+

  • im 10 and i used to watched this wen i was like...4 i still love it because mymom has it on tape

  • 0:38 he looks so fat

  • What a lame cartoon. Thanx god In Russia it was never shown. Or many children would puke. Blaahhhh what a shit.

  • @Go1andec "What a shit."

Let me guess....you're an English professor, right?

  • One of the most under-rated, no pun intended, cartoon themes of all time.

  • I loved this show when growing up; thank you for posting this. I never noted the accordion in the soundtrack before.

  • Technically, isn't this the clip that they would play about half way through the show? The opening song was a little longer. "Look! Up in the sky! ...."

  • You Tube really takes me back.. Simon Bar Sinister

  • @HemiHead66 Riff Raff

  • One of the best intros ever!

  • @truckdriver1520 No THE BEST INTRO EVER !!!

  • @kingman1245 yea it is. why would they has a theme so damned incredible for underdog? it jsut dont make sense, unless you watched it as a kid. its seriouth bidnith.

  • This theme song is what introduced me to the melodic minor (or is it harmonic minor? I always get them mixed up) scale as a kid... Music theory majors, help me out here....

  • @truckdriver1520 oh i remeber this asa kid in the 1970's

  • Speed of lightning, roar of thunder - Underdog! - this is the good stuff.

  • lol.... Underdog is fat

  • @NeoGames2 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! I never noticed that, as a kid!!

    LMFAO!!! Good shit!

  • I used to be in awe of underdog zooming out of the sky leaving bolts of lightning in his wake in the opening scene.Great stuff!

  • I love that jet sound he makes as he flies at the very end.

  • Super Chicken was better than Underdog

  • @PumPMasterTWO So why troll? Post that well thought out info on the Super Chicken theme video. Or am I being to logical.

  • lollllll........ underdog!!!!!! lollllll lolll fat tummy loll

  • love this show! my dad is friends with creator joe harris and we're visiting him in new york next week! loving life right now!

  • @XXXemoguitarheroXXX cool!!.......tell joe that his fans all say hi and thank him for providing us with so much enjoyment over the years!!........also ask him if they ever considered doing an episode where Sweet Polly somehow winds up with Underdog's powers(i remember when i was a kid, i wanted to write the show's producers and suggest that)....take care!!

  • @citizenterryk haha okay i will and i know hes still into doing all thae art but i dont think he would do a new episode hes getting super up ther in age but he still does artwork and i know he just started teaching art at the jewish community center in new york, manhattan i think

  • scrubs!

  • Speed of Lightning, Power of Thunder....... There was a particular later episode which had an expanded rendition of the song... UD did'n't have no more secret energy pills left in his secret ring stash. Sweet Polly PureBread ponied up (made my heart melt). Underdog did the deed. Help me out; this permutation must still exist
