now that's an America i want to live in. one that is lived on reality's terms, not a fairy-tail. maby if their were more atheist in the government their wouldn't be so many of our troops dieing over seas. cause these politicians think that when you die you really go on to heaven. good job military guy. show them bible thumpers what being a human being is all about, THE ATHEIST signing off.
The time has come to change "Army Chaplin" to "Army Counselor." They can continue to play an important role. God bless this chaplin - he seems like a really cool guy.
I'm retired military, the chaplains didn't have an issue with me as an atheist. The poor 2nd LT that pressed my dog tags dropped his mouth open when I said, "atheist." I did experience hostilities and discrimination from other enlisted members.
@WellingtonKramer3 Still, on the other hand. I love that we have the freedom of say what we feel. You may feel that it is a religion. You are entitled to your opinion.
@crazygeek777 I genuinely feel that atheism is a religion. Nothing to prove or disprove, I still don't respect you; never did, never will. Good luck with this faggotry, I'm out!
Who needs a chaplain around a bunch of atheists? We could save loads of money by firing them. If we remove God from our armed forces, why are these "chaplains" still hanging on?
Yeah, when I went into the service (mid-80's) I didn't realize I might have spoken up about swearing to God when I did my oath to enlist. Here I was, an American, wanting to support and defend the Constitution, which PROTECTED my right to be an Atheist, and so I wanted to join the military...but in order to join I had to swear to someone else's God. Made no sense to me.
See George Carlin's bit on swearing on the bible. He asks important questions like what if you swear with your left hand? Or what if the bible is turned around or face down? Does it still count then?
The thing is (and I'm an atheist) he is the first I know to actually heed the words of his savior: don't swear. Let your yes be yes and your no be no. Th earth is the throne, the moon the footstool etc. but yes, this is the way it SHOULD be.
Amazing step for the US military. Now if they would just let us choose dogtags that say something like "No Religion" or "Atheist", instead of the only closest option, "No Preference".

@WellingtonKramer3 the problem about that is that isn't an opinion if you're stating it as a fact.

Why are taxpayers paying the salary of a "God" person?
Can the soldier be 'legally' sworn in by a superior lay person?
