Man this brought back some memories in my Baptist and CME upbringing. And Billy Preston know he showing out lol but the man in the purple jumpsuit @ 2:16 .... Made my DAY!
videos like this are so bittersweet.bitter because so many of the artist are no longer with us and sweet because we had a chance to know/know of them!
Go on Billy! You da Man. RIP. You continue to inspire us for you never strayed far from the river. Our roots are firmly planted by the Holy River from whence we are all nourished.
Could you please post the song Sweet, Sweet Spirit directed by Doris Akers from this video?
Thank you for the other songs from this video you have posted on You Tube. They are so wonderful.
Could you post a list of all the songs on the video? I have searched and found 24 songs and I thought that might be all of them, but then last night I found another for a total of 25.
I would love to have a list so I can see if I have found them all on You Tube.
Such a true song. I tried it and I'm a witness that you can't beat God's giving and the good thing about God is that he keeps on giving and giving and giving..........
Love this song. Uncle Ralph the director was a director at First Church of Deliverance her in Chicago on 43 Wabash until he passed some years back he was dynamic. Many of his songs the choir still sings.
Check out father Hayes Calvin bridges rev issac Hayes Chicago great musicians. Rev Hayes church is here in Chicago on 75 Phillips father Hayes 65 Maryland & Calvin bridges used to be the minister of music at my old church Christ community cogic in south holland il 170th Woodlawn.
@JohnERakes - Sister Doris definitely participated in this recoding session. They perform her song "Lead Me, Guide Me"; She played piano and directed her song "Sweet, Sweet Spirit". However, a great deal was of it (like this song) was merely done impromptu in a rehearsal as they called out great songs of years gone by. This is how true legends rehearse! Bill Gaither had the foresight to have the cameras rolling.
@PentecostalBro07 That is Mr. Ralph (Uncle Ralph) GoodPasteur. He was also a great composer and singer. "To Me, It's So Wonderful", "Joybells, Ringing In My Soul", and "I'm Saved (And I Know That I Am)" are just a few of his compositions.
This song will always be to the heart Sis Mobile Hairston sangs this at Saint Paul`s High Street Baptist in Martinsville Va with Bro Joseph Pritchete Jr on the piano. She is in her late 90`s
When the video camera rests on Doris as she listens to Billy playing her song. I can only amagin the memories that must have flooded her mind. Purhapse she was thinking of Billy as a little boy..sitting beside her on a piano stool as she played or what it was like when the Lord first gave her this song. She was truely a legend.Min. Gene Viale - James Cleveland Singer 64/65
Oh how Doris Akers served her god so wonderfully. She bridged racial gaps that in her early days must have seemed to be chasms. But she just kept on giving to God and we miss her so very much. The wonderful thing about You Tube and the people who have a posting ministry here, such as you PrazHumn83, is that you can keep Doris Akers' giving to God going.. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this post.
Thx for the posting!!! We can't beat God giving and in these last of the last days many need to truly know this..and sing it...Mal 3:10-12..1Chron 29:13,14...all things come from Thee O Lord, and of thine Own have we given Thee. I have been truly blessed and uplifted by the various Gospel Legends postings!!!
@PrazHymn83 That was nice of u. But i was just saying how they show Ralph H. Goodpasteur name in the video they should had put Doris Akers name of there too don't u think
Thank you for this tribute to Sister Doris Akers. She so richly deserves the ultimate pleasure of sitting and listening to her written song sung with so much heart. God Bless You Sister Akers you left us with such a rich, vibrant legacy. I could play your songs all day long and start over the next.
Ms. Akers was exceptionally gifted and wrote hundreds of wonderful anthems of faith just like this one. Thank you for posting this!! I only wish she had taken part in some way when this was recorded - good to see her enjoying her own song :)
I haven't heard this in years. I have been out of the church because of certain reasons. It reminds me of my mother and grandmother and old chruch family, many of whom are dead now. I started crying.
@k999998 You're quite welcome! I guarantee you're going to love the selections in that hymnal...and the arrangements are great! For the most part, they're all done by good friends of mine: Rev. Nolan Williams (Editor-In-Chief of the book), Stephen Key, Richard Smallwood, etc.....YOU'LL LOVE IT!!
The organist is wicked...that is some nasty playing. That's what you call talent.

And just as sure as you are living, and the Lord is in heaven on high:
The more you give, the more He gives to you.
