@MrPatelsPantry The train is going east into Poplar station & you can see Blackwall power station, which replaced the Blackwall Railway & was in turn replaced by the DLR extension to Beckton!
Does anyone know the exact year when the last P86s and P89s ran on the DLR? I know they were sold to Germany in the mid 1990's, but I seem to remember them both being taken out of service in 1996, after which only B90/B92s remained. Could someone confirm that? I could've sworn that I rode on P86s in 1995 or thereabouts.
Cool! It looks like the old station at Heron Quays is in there somewhere. I remember it just after it had closed, the bare island platform compared to the modern covered 2 platform station.
I have a few more super 8 films to copy to computer format. Alas at the present time I am not able to copy video to the computer, this is because I filmed in S-VHS format and my video player has gone wrong as as machines for this format are no longer made so I cannot buy a replacement.
btw, I'd like to apologise for the poor quality of the film 'image' - coming from super 8 film it never was as good as modern video, but in processing it for showing 'youtube' make it worse.
This is a really wonderful video. The old trains with the big front windows und just these short trains. Just think of the fact that 3-car trains will be introduced in some years. At 1:26 vou can see nothing than the viaduct and the train. It almost seems to me as if the train is running in a desert and there is nothing else. If you will see this today, you probably will never guess that it has looked like that out there.
Is 1:55 the approach to Canary Wharf or what is Canary Wharf today?
... It looks as if there is nothing around there except than the DLR.
We just had some pictures of Canary Wharf in 1996 in a presentation at University and I thought, there is nothing compared to today and just a big building site. But this is even less than in 1996.
I am interested how it will have developed when I am in London the next time.
I'm pleased you found this film to be of interest. As you say, the area was a wasteland, and now the place is so busy that they need 3 car trains!
The station at 1:55 is Poplar. Nowadays it has 4 tracks. From what I remember Canary Wharf was built but then before the line opened it was dismantled to allow for construction of the first tower. This station has 3 tracks and 6 platforms, as all tracks have platforms on both sides.
Very historic!

Hi. At 2:00, it looks like Battersea Power Station is in view, although this cannot be right. What station is it?

So much waste land in those days. It's how I prefered, it really. Too many people now and it's all fucked up.
