Hey, how can i get the exact same sound from my amp, i plug in guitar -> effects -> amp -> but how can i plug in the amp to the sound interface? please help !
@Q8BrutalRocker First you have to be Marcus Miller, and have a great tone. As far as getting your amp tone to your sound interface, assuming you play bass guitar, try micing the amp and using a direct box (if it offers a direct out), and if you play guitar, use a SM57 and a condenser mic.
@ThaJSpraya You have to test things out yourself. Unless it's obvious. Ex., one machine is $200 bucks, and another is $2000, there's no comparison. But if two machines are similar, you have to test them. Only you can tell what's better for you.
sweet stuff dude! I also have a projectmix and love it, the one thing I haven't been able to figure out how to do is get it into that test mode with the faders moving around and the lights going off. How do you do it? Thanks!
can you tell me what i need to get to build my complete home recording studio i got the M audio project mix already and also i heard the preamps are terrible when comes to record acustic guitar why they said that ? and that you need to get a external preamp from focus rite ?
@acustichenry Preamps are find for softer instruments like acoustic guitar. For drums or loud amps, the preamps are too hot, meaning they clip, even if turned down all the way. You need attenuators. $10 each.
Are u working with w7 or XP, wut do u think about w7 compatibility with protools, 2nd one is :
Wut mic u use to rec vocals and acoustic gutiars?
3rd one
What are u using right now, talking about monitors m audio or KRK?
I appreciate if you answer, im building my home studio, i have fast track pro, m audio controller prokeys 88, PT mpowered of course and im receiveng a new pc but im doubting about w7, just thinkin about using XP and wait for the support..
All great questions, which I think are all answered with the follow-up video. Short answer - WinXP, Rode K2, and M-Audio EX6's. When this loads, and the message box say, "This video is 2 years old, click here to see update video", click on it and check out the updated video. I talk about everything I use. Cheers.
@SonicOrbStudios as noted, this vid is 2 years old. I sold the Presonus and the Rokit 8 monitors shortly after getting the ProjectMix. Not sure which had the biggest affect, but my mixes are SO much easier now with the M-Audio gear. Not suggesting it's the best I/O, or the best monitors, but they work great for me. Went from doing about 70 mix downs per song to maybe 5. On my old setup, I could never get the bass or highs sounding the same across mutliple systems (studio, home stereo, car, etc).
@scott93257 after some unpleasantness, this guy isn't ALL bad. He's a studio engineer at a high end studio, who I think is somewhat concerned about his business considering what CAN be done with small studios today, but also sick of hearing the garbage that comes from most small studios. However, I think it's foolish to expect every musician to pay rent for a huge studio, even for demo material, which is essentially all I use mine for. I'm not a millionaire pro musician, so mine works for me.
I couldn't agree with you more...after reviewing my comment, I gladly removed it.. large studios are certainly seeing an impact in business and competing with small studios...I mean notable ones... I have a Cubase 5 based studio at home that sees a lot of business...A buddy of mine said he had a studio that I HAD to check out...So I did...Come to find out it his studio consisted of a 4 track cassette recorder, a drum machine, and a casio keyboard...
very laughable really.. Some small studios have the "small man syndrome" and talk a lot and cannot produce good results as where others don't say much and produce amazing results...I can see where he is coming from..That studio is his bread and butter. Sort of reminds me of the introduction of the first "sampler" the Mellotron...The Musician's union had a fit and ordered it not be used because it put choirs, flute players, orchestras' out of work.
@scott93257 I tried to point out (in private messages) some of the artists who release home studio recordings, with little more equipment than I have. Richie Kotzen (one of my favs) has had singles that went to #1 in Japan, and his studio isn't much bigger than mine. Seems many artists these days are recording in home studios. A bud who works at a huge studio in town; I've heard some recordings of his band there - Mine are actually better, cleaner, etc. So, rooms, gear, etc. aren't the answer.
PCI FW card. It works fine, but every now and then I get a skipping sound, like something hangs. Only lasts a second, and has presented a real problem yet. Still, I'll likely upgrade the card soon to a PCI Express card. Not sure if my current one is a TX Instr. chipset, but I've heard the same comments.
very nice! i like how you have this set up!! my studio im building is very similar, i have it all in my room for now, but i am going to buy a shed in the spring and modify it into a studio
In my room they are. What I hear in my room, sounds just like what I hear in the car, living room, friends house, etc. My recordings finally sound good across many systems.
You mean, a "live room" right? Why do I need that? Everything but the vocals and acoustic guitar is done "in the box". VST drums, amps, keys, orchestra's, etc. The joys of modern technology. And, what's even cooler is, thanks to impulse response reverb (Altiverb 6), I can "place" the instruments in any environment I want. Churches, NY studio live rooms, living rooms, etc.
The point is Twitch that you are really not a studio, which is an environment specifically constructed with acoustical properties that lend themselves to the recording of live music. One man is not a band and if you think what you are doing is good sound, then you are fooling yourself.
Obviously you're not at all educated in modern technology. I could, but choose not to record the sound of my room. My environment is specifically constructed for recording live music (which I play live). And, I know my stuff sounds better than yours because you haven't posted anything, and instead sit on your moms computer and piss and moan about other peoples good fortune. It's not 1965 anymore. so what your saying is ALL of the wall in that room is acoustically treated?(or a good portion) and thats how much it cost? if so thats a pretty goood price.
The wall behind the desk is covered from the height of the desk up to the ceiling. Then key spots on the other three walls have smaller sections treated. I bought 3 of their Roominator kits for a little over $100 each. Actually, I later bought a forth to treat my isolation closet, which can be seen in my other video tour.
As a novice keyboard player, it more than works for me. It's got good action for a non-weighted keyboard, and I like having the 8 pads for tapping out drum parts. I don't even use the faders or rotary knobs.
Hi friend i have a question, i´really interested in a m-auio project, but i want to work also with my yamaha 02r mixer, can i use the two things simultaneosly??or only the m-audio or how can i conect the two things in the pc???thanks a million for you video and the answer, hi, from mexico
LOL! Actually, it was originally recorded in 1977 by Deniece Williams. The Twinz "sampled it", obviously rerecording the music, in '95. And Marcus Miller did a full cover of it in 2007 with Corinne Bailey Rae on vocals.
M-Audio was never on my radar before. I also thought it was "so-so gear". This setup REALLY works for me. It's not perfect or error free, but what is? The ProjectMix cost me $900 new, and the speakers cost $800 for the pair (new). For an I/O with automated faders, and a nice set of speakers, that's not a bad investment. Not saying it's the best setup out there, but it's the best setup for me.
The funny thing is, back in the days, I would not have been able to hear the difference. But the reason i can today, is BECAUSE I've listened to the top-of-the-line gear.
The motorized faders are nice. I have a Peavey PC1600x MIDI controller, (16 faders,) that does a great job for me. But using the mouse is almost just as fast. The access to Pro Tools is great. (A must have.) But less than the ProjectMix would do, while not losing sound quality. -Unless You need all the inputs. Less is more. =)
I actually agree in a sense, though I still really favour a lot of M-Audio stuff. I love their audio interfaces and MIDI controllers, but I have been looking at Adam A5s / A7s or Genelec 8020s. (I actually use a pair of Edirol MA15Ds, so anything would be a step up!)
Having said that, I love the setup. If you can make all the music you want and are happy with your gear, that's all that matters
I GOTTA QUICK QUESTION. . . are u an engineer? and if so are u college educated or did u learn somewhere else like tha internet cuz i love learning more and more about about engineering muzik
Learning as I go. I love it too, but don't spend as much time as I'd like to doing it. Started with 4-track cassette machines probably 20 years ago, then went to 8-track real-to-reel, then PC. I live the discovery process too. I've rented "How To" DVD's and read books. Still struggle each time I sit in front of my board though. I think if it was easy, we'd lose interest.
@Rootwitch06 thatz exactly how i attained tha knowledge that i have on mixing & mastering and engineering i feel trial and error iz tha best method 2 learn sumthin new u juss have 2 explore everything and be curious and use wutchu learn
LOL! Grow up? You're the little bitch pissing and moaning because you did a search for "M Audio" and my video (with M-Audio in the title) came up - YOU watched my video (even though it said nothing about teaching retards how to use their gear), then left your shit ass comments as though I somehow fucked up your life and made you the loser that you are. You should have just shut your hole, and moved on... Kinda like your mother should have. BYE NOW!
By the way, when I worked Pro Audio at G.C. we ALWAYS used the "AUTOMATION FADER" demo like he did. OOoooohhh Look mom no hands! 'cmon get with the program. How did my SEARCH for Delta set up for Sonar, result in a demo of someguys' studio gear? NOTHING answering the original question.....
ROTFLMAO!!! WOW! Mr. Big Stuff worked at Guitar Center! In the PRO AUDIO department even...NO wonder you can't figure out how to connect your sound card! Guitar Center only employs uneducated, non-musician, non-technical morons like you. So, when a customer would ask you a question, would you take off to the back room, and look for support answers on YOUTUBE? Moron. Try a support forum...Oops...You probably can't read,...can you... Yeah, you're probably best looking at the moving pictures...
I input "setting up M Audio 1010lt with Sonar"...what do I get....some SMUCK!!! bragging about his gear!!!!!! Hey I'm not down on this guy bragging about his studio...I'm pissed at the result of my search. I could give a rats ass about this little studio....I wanted info on setting up the 1010LT card with a Cake App............what a disappointment!
Oh yeah....the song is fantastic......was.....15 years ago............same ole Motown same ole....
Are you seriously holding me responsible for YouTube's query results? Yo, fuckstick, if you're looking for people who aren't as retarded as you, who can help connecting your pathetic little soundcard to your computer, try the M-Audio Support Forum. Youtube IS NOT a support forum....and learn how to spell schmuck, you schmuck... LOL!
If you are pitching your studio, the song, and your capabilities, why would you pick up a speaker playback with the mic on the camera? Seems counter productive.
Hmmm.... Wasn't really a pitch. I'm not looking for studio clients. Just showing my gear. As for the song, it's by Marcus Miller (just providing mood music for the video). However, if you check my other vids, there's an updated studio tour with one of my originals playing in the background, and my remarkable narration over top. Again, it's only using camera audio, but next time I'll be sure to have a vid with a remastered, surround sound, BlueRay video/audio.... >: )
well first you need an audio interface and software for recording purposes. you either plug you interface into your computer via usb or i have a firewire where i plug it into my sound card. but i recommend usb for beginners. If you have anymore questions feel free to pm me..
..yes it was supposed to come accross a bit skitzo, but not to worry, it was just a moment the jealous admiration :) All is good and I meant what I said about 'good fortune'!!! ! Right, I'm off to the beach! You have a great weekend, vivaaaaa!
Na. I never considered M-Audio stuff for my studio before. I had an M-Audio Quatro (cheap USB I/O) back in 2000 - I thought it was good at the time, but it really sucked. The Axiom was the first new piece of M-Audio gear I got. Great features for the price. Same with the ProjectMix.
Rootwitch, I understand you're not someone who revels in the idea of helping others, however there is no need to be such a twat when addressing people.
Being too lazy to discover answers for yourself, and posting questions on YouTube is not the way to handle ones self. I literally had a guy PM me and ask me if I knew why his F# key was sticking on his Axiom keyboard. And another asking why he wasn't getting audio from his ProjectMix. After countless emails like that, yeah, I'm kinda done with the tech questions.
Hey Rootwitch how is the latency when recording multiple audio and playback? Also do you know if the projectmix is easy to setup in Sonar 8, because I know Protools unfortunately doesn't support 64bit Vista? Thanks!!!
Do you use the pre amps in the unit or an external one? I was wondering because im thinking of buying one but I heard the pre amps arent the best. I was hoping I could use an external pre amp instead with the unit If I needed to.
The pre amps are too hot. I use VST amps and drums on all my stuff, but the other day I tried recording my Fender Super Reverb amp, and the pre amps were clipping even with the gain (on the ProjectMix channel) all the way down. I just ordered some in-line pads to cut 20-40 db before it gets to the PM input...Which was M-Audio's suggestion, rather than answering the question why everyone is having this problem. Still a great unit though. The pads were only $11 each on eBay.
WOW!!! That track playing to this sounds so unlike anything I have ever heard!!! I can't believe how much all that expensive equipment opens the doors to creativity!!! Absolute lyrical and musical genius...
Well, the song is just playing out of my computer speakers - It's a song called Free by Marcus Miller. If you check out my profile video, there's a song I'm writing playing in the background.
Hey i just got an maudio1010lt for recordin purposes... but I have a slight problem b/c I want to record with guitar, but I dont have any RCA cables and thats all the M-audio takes... they have dual 1/4 to RCA cables but if I only have one line out how am i supposed to use this?? would a single 1/4 to dual rca stereo work if I wanted to record from my guitar amp? Plz let me know if you can help me thanks a lot :)
what do I need a support forum for its a simple yes or no question lol..... anyways do you make money just off bein a musician or do you have to work too? lol
Because in a support forum, there's a good chance that there are users who have the same gear, and issues you do. I have neither. Likewise, a support forum is there for people to ask and answer support questions. YouTube isn't. Even if it was, I don't understand why you're asking me about gear that I don't even own.
Lol I understand, I asked you a personal question tho, should I go to the support forum for my answer ? lol j/k I was just wondering if you can support yourself off makin music or do you have to work as well? b/c we all kno the music industry is totally fucked now, and none of the good musicians get a chance to be rich, its all the stupid shitty musicians that make teenagers dumb and spend their money get to be rich.....
Well, I recently got out of a cover band, playing all that shitty music you're talking about (the music sucked, but the girls bumping and grinding on the dance floor made it tolerable). I have friends who don't work a day job, and make less than I did in my band thing, and they're 'living'. Personally, I like having money to buy nice things, so I have always held a day job.
Ya that's cool man... I saw some of your videos and you are very talented, that raggamuffin is sweet... I want to start makin some music myself thats why I got this maudio pci audio interface... I wanted to make some black metal and then maybe get some ppl to help me make some psychadelic jams or somethin lol dunno... my friends are pretty lazy tho and negative, they dont ever want to do anythin creative or productive, need to surround myself with more positive ppl lol...
also very interested in learing jaz guitar, i have studied a bit of classical it is fun, but takes a lot of discipline lol, and i like play electric better, i will just enjoy old skewl classical guitarist, it takes many years to master that....
your M-AUDIO STUDIO LOOKS GOOD, i got a question hope u can answer, i got da axiom 61 and sometimes when i play, i got press da keys a little hard to hear da sound, or when i press da keys soft, it comes out soft, i jus want it to come out heavy each time i press a key, can i fix that problem? or is it like that ?
I'm really not trying to be an ass. But two things: First, it's "THE", not "da". I really don't understand why people go out of their way to dumb themselves down.
Second, I'm totally confused as to why there seems to be this new trend, where people post support questions on YouTube videos. Dude, M-Audio has a Support Forum at their web site. People (including M-Audio support staff) go there to ask and answer these kinds of questions. Try it out.
Project mix is awesome in this vid!!!!! I've got a m-audio studio too!!!!! Logic 8 and ProTools 8 all the way baby!!!!! (I know protools isnt released yet but I will get the upgrade as soon as it comes out!!)
Pretty nice setup dude! Check mine out when you get the chance under "Eccentric Resonance: My Studio". I'll be getting my first Presonus piece soon to go with my new RME 800.
why would you spend all that money on m audio lol

Is it any good ?
stringbender69 2 years ago
As a novice keyboard player, it more than works for me. It's got good action for a non-weighted keyboard, and I like having the 8 pads for tapping out drum parts. I don't even use the faders or rotary knobs.

RolandD70 2 years ago
the original name of the song is EastsideLB by Twinz
GKMCAK47 2 years ago
LOL! Actually, it was originally recorded in 1977 by Deniece Williams. The Twinz "sampled it", obviously rerecording the music, in '95. And Marcus Miller did a full cover of it in 2007 with Corinne Bailey Rae on vocals.

hey man, just a couple oif questions, would you recommend the ozonic?
or should i get an interface and a controller separately? (was thinking about alesis io2 and oxygen or axiom 49) thanks
MaghoxFr 2 years ago
The thing is.. I don't like M-Audio's gear much. What I've tried has been only so-so.. For so-so equipment, it's too expensive.
The driver support has been bad too..
Get a Fireface 400 or 800, and some A.D.A.M. speakers, and pay a bit more, but get a LOT more.
zapzzapzzapz 2 years ago
M-Audio was never on my radar before. I also thought it was "so-so gear". This setup REALLY works for me. It's not perfect or error free, but what is? The ProjectMix cost me $900 new, and the speakers cost $800 for the pair (new). For an I/O with automated faders, and a nice set of speakers, that's not a bad investment. Not saying it's the best setup out there, but it's the best setup for me.
Rootwitch06 2 years ago
The funny thing is, back in the days, I would not have been able to hear the difference. But the reason i can today, is BECAUSE I've listened to the top-of-the-line gear.
The motorized faders are nice. I have a Peavey PC1600x MIDI controller, (16 faders,) that does a great job for me. But using the mouse is almost just as fast. The access to Pro Tools is great. (A must have.) But less than the ProjectMix would do, while not losing sound quality. -Unless You need all the inputs. Less is more. =)
zapzzapzzapz 2 years ago
what's that soundboard called?? sorry, don't know much about all this recording hardware stuff haha
aaronh250 2 years ago
Call it a sound mixer
Or a mixing board
It is an M-Audio ProjectMix I/O
pwnedmedia 2 years ago

ManiaKDaMicMurderah 2 years ago
Learning as I go. I love it too, but don't spend as much time as I'd like to doing it. Started with 4-track cassette machines probably 20 years ago, then went to 8-track real-to-reel, then PC. I live the discovery process too. I've rented "How To" DVD's and read books. Still struggle each time I sit in front of my board though. I think if it was easy, we'd lose interest.

LOL!

101AOK 2 years ago
ROTFLMAO!!! WOW!
Rootwitch06 2 years ago
I input "setting up M Audio 1010lt with Sonar"...what do I get....some SMUCK!!! bragging about his gear!!!!!! Hey I'm not down on this guy bragging about his studio...I'm pissed at the result of my search. I could give a rats ass about this little studio....I wanted info on setting up the 1010LT card with a Cake App............what a disappointment!
Oh yeah....the song is fantastic......was.....15 years ago............same ole Motown same ole....
101AOK 2 years ago
Are you seriously holding me responsible for YouTube's query results? Yo, fuckstick, if you're looking for people who aren't as retarded as you, who can help connecting your pathetic little soundcard to your computer, try the M-Audio Support Forum. Youtube IS NOT a support forum....and learn how to spell schmuck, you schmuck... LOL!
Rootwitch06 2 years ago
Nice setup....Yeah...you need a couch and a flatscreen TV...other than that....great studio..
suciobeats 2 years ago
If you are pitching your studio, the song, and your capabilities, why would you pick up a speaker playback with the mic on the camera? Seems counter productive.
periwinkleflame 2 years ago

It's just to demo the faders and get a hundred people on YouTube to ask you how it's done. :)

Hi.
Maybe here's someone to help me.
So, I have a few pretty decent mics here at home, and I want to record songs into my computer .
What do I need to begin with?
What do I need to build my very " rooky " like home studio?
Johnlnw 2 years ago
well first you need an audio interface and software for recording purposes. you either plug you interface into your computer via usb or i have a firewire where i plug it into my sound card. but i recommend usb for beginners. If you have anymore questions feel free to pm me..
AnntiOfficial 2 years ago
Oh thank you very much for your quick response.
Should I buy one with integrated pre-amp ?
Or should I buy a stand alone pre- amp?
And what about a mixer?
Johnlnw 2 years ago
Firewire is not part of your souncard it is just a faster interface as opposed to usb

DubzOnFireStudio 2 years ago
Rootwitch06 2 years ago
Rootwitch, I understand you're not someone who revels in the idea of helping others, however there is no need to be such a twat when addressing people.
samtooth 2 years ago
Being too lazy to discover answers for yourself, and posting questions on YouTube is not the way to handle ones self. I literally had a guy PM me and ask me if I knew why his F# key was sticking on his Axiom keyboard. And another asking why he wasn't getting audio from his ProjectMix. After countless emails like that, yeah, I'm kinda done with the tech questions.

Do you use the pre amps in the unit or an external one? I was wondering because im thinking of buying one but I heard the pre amps arent the best. I was hoping I could use an external pre amp instead with the unit If I needed to.
Louiestyx 3 years ago
The pre amps are too hot. I use VST amps and drums on all my stuff, but the other day I tried recording my Fender Super Reverb amp, and the pre amps were clipping even with the gain (on the ProjectMix channel) all the way down. I just ordered some in-line pads to cut 20-40 db before it gets to the PM input...Which was M-Audio's suggestion, rather than answering the question why everyone is having this problem. Still a great unit though. The pads were only $11 each on eBay.
Rootwitch06 2 years ago

Plz let me know if you can help me thanks a lot :)
xdyingfetusx69 3 years ago
Dude. Since when did YouTube become a support forum?? I don't even own a 1010lt... Go to the M-Audio site - They have a support forum there.
Rootwitch06 3 years ago
what do I need a support forum for its a simple yes or no question lol..... anyways do you make money just off bein a musician or do you have to work too? lol
xdyingfetusx69 3 years ago
Because in a support forum, there's a good chance that there are users who have the same gear, and issues you do. I have neither. Likewise, a support forum is there for people to ask and answer support questions. YouTube isn't. Even if it was, I don't understand why you're asking me about gear that I don't even own.
Rootwitch06 3 years ago
Lol I understand, I asked you a personal question tho, should I go to the support forum for my answer ? lol j/k I was just wondering if you can support yourself off makin music or do you have to work as well? b/c we all kno the music industry is totally fucked now, and none of the good musicians get a chance to be rich, its all the stupid shitty musicians that make teenagers dumb and spend their money get to be rich.....
xdyingfetusx69 3 years ago
Well, I recently got out of a cover band, playing all that shitty music you're talking about (the music sucked, but the girls bumping and grinding on the dance floor made it tolerable). I have friends who don't work a day job, and make less than I did in my band thing, and they're 'living'. Personally, I like having money to buy nice things, so I have always held a day job.
Rootwitch06 3 years ago
Ya that's cool man... I saw some of your videos and you are very talented, that raggamuffin is sweet... I want to start makin some music myself thats why I got this maudio pci audio interface... I wanted to make some black metal and then maybe get some ppl to help me make some psychadelic jams or somethin lol dunno... my friends are pretty lazy tho and negative, they dont ever want to do anythin creative or productive, need to surround myself with more positive ppl lol...
xdyingfetusx69 3 years ago
also very interested in learing jaz guitar, i have studied a bit of classical it is fun, but takes a lot of discipline lol, and i like play electric better, i will just enjoy old skewl classical guitarist, it takes many years to master that....

your M-AUDIO STUDIO LOOKS GOOD, i got a question hope u can answer, i got da axiom 61 and sometimes when i play, i got press da keys a little hard to hear da sound, or when i press da keys soft, it comes out soft, i jus want it to come out heavy each time i press a key, can i fix that problem? or is it like that ?
mistaseven 3 years ago
I'm really not trying to be an ass. But two things: First, it's "THE", not "da". I really don't understand why people go out of their way to dumb themselves down.
Second, I'm totally confused as to why there seems to be this new trend, where people post support questions on YouTube videos. Dude, M-Audio has a Support Forum at their web site. People (including M-Audio support staff) go there to ask and answer these kinds of questions. Try it out.
Peace -
