  • Wow, the lyrics to that second song really kick ass.

  • Wow, how can anyone accuse the music of that era or the reactions as being "clone-y?" Today's music not only has a minimal melody line, nearly all the songs sound the same.

  • There was never any mystery about Ozzies's job. He was the producer of the show that we were watching! A big part of the fun of watching them was that they were real people. Unlike on most shows, the brothers actually looked like brothers and resembled both their parents.

  • I grew up in the 50s The Nelsons and the Ricardos were like part of all out families. What a great talent they had

  • The Nelsons were the best on television. Off camera I would bet anything that they were even better. What incredible talent and character from that wonderful family.

  • Thanks for posting this. My brother and I grew up in the 50's watching the show. loved every part of it , except when OUR mother would ask us 'Why can't you two get along like those nice Nelson boys"

I recently found a treat on Amazon: a CD of an old Ozzie Nelson Album from early 30's. It Includes Ozzie's version of Dream A Little Dream Of Me.

  • @craigsbeer 'Why can't you two get along like those nice Nelson boys" That gave me a good laugh! Sounds like a mother.

  • Love the Nelsons & their extended family...so many coincidences. Different years but Rick and I born May 8th...he was born in Jersey...I graduated from high school in Jersey...I attended Rutgers for 1.5 yrs and found a black and white Rutgers football team photo featuring Ozzie (lower library floor)...what a thrill...when I find a Karaoke DJ with 'adult' music one of my songs is "Travelin' Man"...if anyone can post "Says My Heart" by Ozzie's orchestra (featuring Harriet) I'll love ya' forever.

  • Thanks for the post.

  • OMG, I always knew Laura reminded me of someone and It's Harriet Hillyard Nelson!!! LOL

  • Hey don't say Ozzie looks like he can't bothered, he was the Executive Producer, so he set the whole thing up. The song was "Just Because", number that made the Cleveland Polka King Frankie Yankovic a national hit.

  • they were a true nice couple something you rarely see now

  • 0:12 -- the ship's captain sounds just like the bad guy, Ryker, in the classic Western, "Shane". Is it the same actor?

  • I'm so annoyed this show has not been put out on DVD.

  • @Robert4770 -It has been.

  • I'm 57& remember the show. Ozzie was so multi-talented: musician, director, writer, producer. Their band played in the old ballroom of the resort I live in & my parents saw them & had their sheet music. The autographed pic of Ozzie is still on the wall of the local bar. Ricky was a terrific actorso believable as a young, impish boy.

  • Wow Since I saw this espisode & my folks had their album the lyrics to both of these great old songs popped immediately back like it was yesterday. As an adult I'm amazed how attractive Harriet was. As a kid she was just another housewife to me back then. It's so great that their son's classic hits were featured on that great show too. My generation was sure lucky to have such fine shows with good, clean values to watch and learn to live by. All I need now is some Tutti-Fruitti ice cream

  • You are right on the beam, Ray. I felt exactly the same. Harriet was just another Mom. But now that I'm 58 I realize just how attractive she truly was. What a great show it was.

  • Thanks for the verification about Harriet's good looks and how great the show was. So many of them were absolutely hilarious... often focusing on one stupid litle thing. And just think how often we got to see free performances of some of the best songs ever made... Ozzie was sure brilliant to include Rick's performances on the TV show... talk about effective marketing.

  • Thanks for the post. I had this on DVD.

  • Actually Ozzie had a law degree from Rutger's university and when pressed he would say that his character was a lawyer. He believed (like Cosby) that work wasn't as important as family in a sitcom. Thank you for the compliments- i think my grandma was one of the most undervalued comedienne's ever. -Tracy Nelson (o and h's granddaughter)

  • I love this duet and i heard ricky do the same song..(just because)here on you tube.

I watched an episode with ricky last nite when he must have been 10 y/o about the dbl. your money back pancake episode.

wow! great to see all the old episodes and all rickys songs. What a GREAT VOICE!

  • @waysmarterthanu Tracy...if you are in fact who you say you are I simply want to say that your parents and grandparents are/were fine looking and wonderful people. I am grateful for the many ways in which they blessed me and my family as I was growing up...please see my comment below...regards...Tunesmith

  • @waysmarterthanu Ozzie and harriet, are the pioneers of what a family should be, united in teamwork, and more importantly, teachers of our childen, no matter who we prefer or whatever. I agree whole heartedly waysmarter than you. Tracey nelson also is a WONDERFUL lady and a great comedienne too, she should be complimented and hailed a hero as well.

  • I'd heard his job was as an actor playing Ozzie Nelson on a television show.

Nearly the same goes for Seinfeld.

  • I like this episode because for so long this show was a butt of jokes because Ozzie apprently didn't have a job. Of course he was essentially playing himself which means he was a retired band leader and Harriet a retired singer/actress.

  • I believe Ozzie is one of the most underrated and unrecognized comedians of all time, and Harriet-the most underrated straight person.

I'm proud to say the Ozzie and Harriet fan club and the petition I started in Torrance, California in 1976 was responsible for getting reruns of O&H back on local television in Los Angeles. It didn't hurt that Ken Osmond ("Eddie"), Tony Dow("Wally") and Jerry Mathers ("The Beave") put their John Hancocks on the petition! Thanks for keeping Ozzie alive!

  • Wow,thats interesting. I grew up watching these in Los Angeles in the late 60's and early 70's. I loved this show. Watching this now brings some sadness to me because I'd kick back with my late dad after school and watch this with him before he'd head off to work. Very sweet memeories of a time long past that cannot be duplicated. Even the closing theme music brings on a memory pang.

  • I believe the actor playing the ship's captain previously played the bad guy, Riker, in the classic movie "Shane". At least his voice sounds exactly the same.

  • God bless you,Mr and Mrs. Nelson. What a super handsome family:Dad,David,Ricky and his 3 beautiful sons:Matthew,Gunner, and Sam Nelson!

  • Thank you for posting this! What a great family! I wish I was married to Mr. and Mrs.Nelson's grandson, Gunner Nelson!

  • My ex-boyfriend was just starting out as a hairdresser, as a "Shampoo boy" and he shampooed Harriet's hair in a fancy salon in Newport Beach, CA in the late 70's...they chatted and she was very friendly, but he called her "Ozziett" - to her face!! I still LOL whenever I remember that story.

  • This was fun to watch, a real blast from the past. Thanks for posting it.

  • i just watched this last week. i love the nelsons.

  • It's a good thing that those four uniformed ship's officers just happen to be there to provide professional back-up singing, 'cause Ozzie and Harriet were not your most scintillating of crooners. Fortunately, they didn't have to depend on their singing abilities for their incomes.

  • Who're you kidding... Rick looks like his mom & Dave his dad!

  • I feel he got the best qualities of both parents. Not to be mean, but Dave just missed it. I met and got Dave's autograph at a savings and loan opening, I was a pen pal with Harriet, and I met Ricky's wife at a trendy clothing shop on Melrose in LA 1n 1982. She couldn't believe I recognized her!

  • Ricky didn't look like either parent; this always puzzled me!

  • better than i love lucy

  • Ricky Nelson's mom was beautiful!

  • This 1958 excerpt gave the viewer a gentle reminder of when Ozzie was an orchestra leader in the '30s and early '40s, and Harriet was his vocalist (and occasional duettist).

  • Boy did this bring back pleasant childhood memories. Thanks for putting it out there.

  • amen brother

  • Sweet and Kewl....

  • awesome! My favorite show of all time.

  • Stunning! I love this!
