@bluegrasssingingman just because it has a $4000 price tag on it does not mean its not comparable to a RD27. Rather pricey to even say "wow, that sounds much better than a RD27" It is not a highly noticed difference. Most people hear a higher price tag and ignorantly think its a better products. That is not that case with acoustic guitars. Breedlove has proven you can get a professional sound out of laminated guitar. Its all personal taste.
@randommiker You are clueless, if they was comparing the RK to a Taylor. Then I'd say it is comparable. Not to a Martin, Santa Cruz, or a over priced Collings. You're ignorant to even try to assume the RK is as good. Martin makes some very nice sounding laminated guitars, but to say a Laminated guitar is in the class of a 4000 Martin is showing your ignorant. Personal taste, LOL Tone Deaf yes.
the Recording King is definitly brighter sounding but thats gonna changed w/ time long as the guitar action is good I see that the RD is made w/quality parts, so depends on what you wanna spend I quess
Also gotta keep in mind that labor is a lot cheaper in China where the Recording King guitars are made than here in the States, where the Martins are made.
As per the other video, the Martin is definitely an HD-28V (not D-28) coz the logo on the headstock is old style and not gold foil and it's got butterbean tuners on it. The bracing makes a significant difference over the standard D-28.
@EricAndMusic Thank God its not a Collins, You can like what you wish. What are you smoking, Martins been the longest American Guitar Company, and they still make the best Guitars in the World. Thats why everyone copies their Guitars. LOL what a joke, Collins maybe a nice Guitar, Only one your fooling is your self. To think Collins as good as a Martin.
@bluegrasssingingman I agree but i love guilds more/ just as much, Both are a tie really just i use guild for certain things and would use martins for certain things.
let the sellsman play and you listen you will see the recording king can't your martin or the d 28 the recording king is muddy sound and bottoms out in sound
Is this some kind of comedy skit?? If your ear isn't good enough to tell the two apart, you don't deserve the D28!!! Stick with the Dx1 and play knockin on heaven's doors, the 2 hour version.
He's comparing a guitar with a cut-out to a full body guitar. You lose a lot of volume and bass response with the cutout. I own a Martin DX-1RGT and a RK-57 and the recording king blows the Martin away....I compared to a friends Martin D-18 and still the Recording king was much more articulate.
My Martin DX1E just arrived today and it sounds amazing! the action on the guitar is perfect and no imperfections on the guitar at all im so happy with it
Yep, the Martin sounds a lot better than the RK, tone wise. When you start to stack everything together--starting with Martin laborers being paid a fair wage, wood aging and selection, overall finish (satin neck is faster; the RK factory just sprays the same finish over the entire instrument), the Martin is worth it. But if you just go by tone, I'd say the extra $1400 is worth it. Besides, at Guitar Center, that sticker price is never the final price.
elixir lights, polyweb i love'em...i've tried dif. strings just to try'em out elixir just sounds the best...if you play guitar alot you know that a good pair of strings make a huge difference ya kno...
when i got my martin it sounded great but i had to put new strings on it, the strings that where on it were martins i think and i don't like martin strings i dont know they just were real stiff and not bright at all once i put new strings on it, it made a big difference!!!
Seemed louder than the RD-27, which you'd expect. Did you end up buying a guitar? Didn't seem like either of you were terribly struck by the Martin...there needs to be that 'wow' moment. When I first tried my D-28 I knew I'd be taking a hit in the wallet.
well the RD-27 is my guitar- we're comparing it to the HD-28 because the 27 is made the same way: scalloped bracing, solid spruce top, solid sides and back, single piece neck in the same style as the Martin. the only difference is engelmann spruce vs adirondack spruce, and probably the level of craftsmanship.
and we did notice the Martin was 'wow' but at that moment, it wasn't $2200 wow because the RD-27 is $600. pricing wise, the 27's more of a "why not?" buy because it's not made with cheap parts either. it could've been that the particular D-28 we played didn't feel $2200 nice- but it was of course nicer than the 27, just not much nicer. and definitely not worth it if you knew the price i got the 27 for...
good point- you're right, it actually was the HD-28 we were playing. for the audience to know the difference, the D-28 doesn't have scalloped bracing and costs about $300 less.
I can't believe, someone trying to even compare, a RK to any Martin.Especially to a Martin H D- 28 V. a $4.000 guitar.

Sorry you paid too much for your "Martin." Your desperate attempt to protect your investment is obvious...
Martins are nice but if you wanna get serious it's NO Collings.

what strings did you put on?

Actually, its an HD-28V because of the butterbean tuners. That means it will also have the forward-shifted top bracing like the RD-27 has.
