  • does anyone know the font that's used in the video?

  • I'm using a Windows laptop to watch this. Muahhahahahahaha

  • Superb Video !!!

  • I used to be a fervent believer that open source would win. I highly doubt it today. Yes, Android is a significant contributor, but it has a dodgy history of openness so far. I will continue to use linux on my desktop, but I believe the race for the major market share is over.

  • Odd feedback for this video yet again.

  • lol every time I watch this video I feel my phone is ringing.

  • uh it may be good? But theres only so few programs (and games) working on that OS. Now if it would somehow get more famous among developers like mac is getting.. more competition would mean better progress for all.

  • bil gates + steeve and family dislike that

  • GNU/Linux is a great operating system. I only wish that more third party (major) software developers would include their software on it.

  • @orasis WINE will help you there :)

  • @orasis i just hope some genious will discover linux soon, and write some codes to use windows/mac programs cross-platform. We allredy have Wine, and POL, but they still have problems with compitability on graphics... thats the major problem for me at least...

  • @BrokenHorn90 trolls can think?

  • omg I stirred up a mess.

  • Linux is Life! I have completely jumped out of my windows! Good bye Bill G.

  • That was a truly awesome commercial.

  • I always thought the red hat linux logo was a red dinosaur right until now. Damn

  • @AnOddBot Red dinosaur is Mozilla logo. :)

  • I think It should be better "Red Hat Linux Advertising"

  • @232nintendo Microsoft a restricted locked-down OS? Try Mac OS or IOS

  • @pdiddles03 iOS and it's iTunes, it's a prison compared to windows.

  • First they ignore you

    then they laugh at you

    then they fight you

    then you win

then you begin to ignore others

what we need is a persist red hat

red hat will live forever if red hat is never commercial

  • @qjqqyy So everything non-commercial should not have commercials? Weird, I see a lot of UNICEF-ads in TV, however it's a non-profit organisation... Btw the commercial was made by Red Hat, they sell some kind of "commercial" linux, however their costumers pays for the brilliant support they give.

  • @SirVipera Just to let you know I use RedHat but it is NOT free at all. $350 with no support. For the server contract that I have for RedHat Enterprise -w- Linux Premium support I paid around $1,300 / year for ONE server. It is NOT "FREE." If you are looking for the most respected unhackable tiny Unix/Linux get OpenBSD, but I do like RedHat and I use it because it may get me a job the more that I know about it.

  • @SirVipera

They don't sell the software but the support that comes along with it

  • @SirVipera UNICEF is a very bad example for those who look at the sales of the manager.

  • @qjqqyy Just because it's developed by a large community of unpaid users, it shouldn't be allowed to represent itself? Your YouTube videos do not get you any money, so they're non-profit? Doesn't that mean, by your logic, that they should be pulled from the internet? :/

  • @mysteryloser24 red hat employs people to program, the word unpaid is not accurate.

I personally dislike the marketing and commercialization of Linux.

Anyway, people like me is not Red Hat's target audience.

  • @qjqqyy No, you see, you said Linux in your initial comment, not Red Hat specifically. I'm not talking about Red Hat here, I'm talking about Linux itself. You said Linux should not have commercials, and the majority of Linux distro's available are produced by unpaid users who do it for fun. What about that means it does not deserve to be shown off? Because it's not expensive like Windows or Mackintosh, it doesn't deserve to get a look in? That's corporate thinking.

  • @qjqqyy linux may not be commercial but redhat is.

  • @qjqqyy Logic fail? I think so.

  • Linux: Because the user should control the unit, not the other way around.

    Debian GNU/Linux ftw.

  • will linux win over microsoft windows? fact until proven, right?

  • There is a chance that google chrome might be the future

  • I mean chrome OS

  • The best commercial ever.

  • Why that's not in tv anymore:( WHy "cry"

  • Fallacy in Accuracy vs Consensus in Truth [FACT]

Red Hat Fedora is to the server market what Microsoft Windows is to the Desktop market.

I hope Ubuntu wins the desktop market, and stops crashing on me*, because Great plus Free equals Awesome :)

    Dava

    peace.

Ubuntu has my kudos, it has the most promise, i feel.

*banshee player keeps crashing, chrome keeps crashing, BUT Rakarrack plus patchage almost = garageband for free yay!

  • @dava4444 uninstall and reinstall...but make sure you completely uninstall..the apps bugged so it needs to be repaired..cheers!

  • @313hummer

    thanks :) will try that.

can i ask.. do you think Ubuntu can be a corporate success? e.g get money from small to medium businesses?

    Let Me Explain

Fedora is the king of servers and I hope Canonical does get some .gov money, but perhaps the 'way in' for Canonical is home usage then small business then medium, if the Office foundation would stop messing around it could really kill MS office. when i've saved it always saves in OTD format guh! i want .DOC and for it to transfer easily

  • @dava4444 yes of course it can...any operating system can...you just have to do it right..and ubuntu ..does it right...but thats not what ubuntu is..ubuntu is an open source operating system..with open source software..it could take out microsoft eventually..and yes i hate that too..but you should try libre office :P..it is much better than openoffice...but on the line of corporate success..it could be..they just have to sign a partnership with a hardware company..so they can make their own..

  • @dava4444 ubuntu machines..so that if each machine is 200 dollars..it could be split 50/50 throughout the 2 companys..kind of like what system 76 does

  • totally meaningless

  • software should be free open and flexible , but trendieness is definately a bonus , i use the latest ubuntu distro on vmware and i have to say its very trendy aswell as awesome

  • Tuve que traducir todo el video, tienen razón ¡eh!

  • @232nintendo

Maybe he came from the future and came to warn us how windows 8 took over the world

  • That was a beautifully crafted commercial.

  • fact until proven otherwise?

    =\

  • i wish they would've put linux at the end, and not just redhat. that's one of the many reasons linux is awesome: there's choices.

  • what font are they using in this video?

  • @EviousProductions I would say Helvetica, but i'm not sure

  • @TekElectronik It's as powerful as it is now mostly because of some very rich companies realising that money can be made on it. Vast majority of code contributions to the Linux kernel are from paid employees of companies like RedHat, IBM, Google, etc. And it's a good thing, because good developers can then spend more time on it while still being able to pay their rent ;).

  • @viceapple I rather liked it

  • I'm gonna be devil's advocate for a moment here (as a long time user of Unix(non-TM)). It's great to have a free alternative to Windows and I'm really impressed with Fedora 14 ATM, but the suggestion that MS has done nothing innovative is not truthful and neither is that Linux is some kinda ignored pariah.

  • People use Windows or Max OS, because they have not tried Linux, they are afraid to switch to smth new and probably have never even heard of it.

Telling a Windows user, that hasn't experienced Linux that Linux us way better is just like telling a deaf person that there are some awesome pieces of music in this world. He could never realize what stands behind those words.

  • redhat is the only company that realy has linux in the blood :)

  • This is my computer, not Microsoft's.

  • @TheRealUncleNinja exactly!

  • feels good to have control over your own O.S.

  • Im gonna be honest, i really like linux im a linux fan but this commercial is boring as hell

  • i have been ignored, ridiculed, fought, and i finally got a cookie:) (look at my first comment to understand lol)

  • @Hack3rINC : What happened to MS....it did not get its cookie......ohhhh....thats why their CEOs keep on changing their statements......LOL

  • Linux is better than windows because even for those who like windows for it's UI Linux can emulate that as well as the UI of mac OS X, the UI in my eyes is the only reason (not including games) that anyone would want to use anything other than a distro of linux.

  • @Draven501 haha that's weird. My very first interest in Linux happened because I stumbled over a video of it and found the UI fascinating (=

  • why does this commercial bring a tear to my eye?

  • How many computers can i install a legal version of XP on?? The answer is one (officially)..... Pricks, that's why i moved to Linux.

How many computers can i install a Version of Linux??? Unlimited.

Which O/S is easiest to learn for a novice? The answer is Linux.

How much does a Window$ O/S cost?...Well, we all know how much unless it's a pirated copy, and isn't that illegal according to Micro$oft.

How much is a Linux O/S? Free and i don't need an activation code to use it after 30 days.

  • @oncewereworriers The easiest system for novists is clearly OSX man ;)

  • @olli2591 TRY AGAIN! its linux mint ;)

  • @tj00139 Linux mint isn't a video editing software....

  • what's the name of the person who created this video?

  • @majakowsy

It's a company who created the video (Red Hat)

  • @SirVipera yes I know, i was wondering who is the name of the person who created the video

  • @majakowsy

In that case best if you call the department that is responsible for making commercials to red hot to get the producer's name. why are you so interested?

  • @SirVipera because i think that is a great video, and i was curious to find some more material of the guy(s) who created this one

  • Linux and UNIX; the only true Operating Systems. Microsoft is universal . . . but unreliable. And OSX, well no comments there.

  • I watched this video using a 8 year old HP laptop with 512 MB ram and 1.6 GHz CPU running Xubuntu with KDE desktop environment. I got the computer for free cuz it was too old for anyone else. I us linux because XP is too slow and Mac is overpriced. I think I can safely say, Linux, FTW!

  • i have been ignored, ridiculed, fought, now where iz mah cookie!?!?!? lol

  • @Hack3rINC sudo apt-get cookie

  • microsoft is still in the fighting phase. it wont last forever though, eventually Linux will win out be it 10-50 years it will happen. that's what i think.

  • Awesome!!!

  • Linux ftw!!

  • go Linux!

  • fedora...

  • That was really well put together. I love this commercial!

  • @SirVipera there are ones that were right?

  • @supergenius1994

Yes? I can not believe that there were only wrong predications!

  • @SirVipera not all wrong, just mostly wrong predictions

  • @supergenius1994

Or maybe the most predications that get known are funny and wrong.. I think people do not care about boring, realistic predications that did not fail drastically..

  • @SirVipera no, I think it might be most of them, after all when you attempt to predict what will happen next in technology you are trying to say that you know where all the research money is going, and I highly doubt that anyone researches where the money for each company is going before making a prediction

  • @supergenius1994

But i guess lot's of predictions came from companies who were manufacturing and/or researching these things they predicted about.. But maybe it does not count as a prediction because they KNEW what going to be next thing in the development of their products..

Anyway, i agree, a lot of predictions are bullshit. Some predictions written down here will be right some won't.

  • @SirVipera but they forgot to consider that another company might make it first

  • I have read some of these comments, and other people seem to be giving predictions about the future of technology, these people need to look up: "funny predictions about technology from the past"

  • we must begin to call GNU / Linux, GNU can also operate with other kernels, for example Hurd

  • wow, a very clever way of promoting Linux

  • Yep. Linux community cannot make drivers for all the hardware in existence. And manufacturers don't usually care about 1% of Linux users too.

  • @icgd1337r

Yes? And why with Ubuntu Linux all hardware (any graphic card, any wi-fi chip, any webcam) works fine?

Maybe there is a bug in your argumentation? :-)

Maybe nVidia, ATI/AMD, Realtek, Trust etc. make drivers for Linux despite your theorem?

Why with Linux I can use my Microsoft webcam? And I can connect with in Microsoft Live Messenger network? And I can open and edit Microsoft Word files?

... and manipulate videos, edit images, and boot my system in half time in comparison to Windows?

  • @modadellento I mean SOME hardware still has problems with Linux. Of course some manufacturers do make drivers for Linux, but if you have some very specific hardware, Linux may not work with it.

  • @icgd1337r

Yepp, Logitech Fusion webcam, wireless adapters, printer, my cell... still a lot of things not supported.. But can't deny that the hardware support is increasing..

  • Redhat, i take my hat off to you. Awesome ad for an awesome operating system! =)

  • Comment removed

  • thats really genious!!!!! gr8 one!

  • Great commercial

  • Very cool commercial.

    5*

  • I love this. Wonderful video. Switched to Linux Ubuntu 2 years ago. Never looked back. Thank you FOSS! ^_^

  • Liar.

  • @stopthrm Not a liar. Why would you think I'm lying? :/ It shows what operating system I use on my deviantART account page. Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic). You sir, are the liar, for calling ME a liar. :|

  • I would like Linux more if its supporters didn't have this "holier-than-thou" attitude about it

  • Awesne video

  • @atronix fantastic. and very true.

I hope that all os'es end up free.

  • Ubuntu 9.10 here... nothing better than Linux. It's easy, it's free, it's completely secure and despite the ignorance - it will prevail!

Google Linux Beauty if you want to see what is Linux!

P.S. It's easier to use than MacOsX or Windows... if you just give it a try!

  • @russiancza i love linux but convincing average everyday computer users to use linux is basicaly impossible. Linux is not that easy to use compared to windows xp(in which you could do everything wrong and still get it right) I love linux but its not something i would give my mom on her computer.

  • @russiancza All hail King Penguin the first.

  • what type of matrix is that in the top left hand corner at 2:52.

  • @hmjgriffon so you must not remember places using novell for all those years. It took a while for windows to become the standard and before that is was Linux and unix. The first webserver in the world was Nix based but you're right. You win. 30+ and living with dad you have tons of impact on the tech community keeping linux down.

  • Most everyday americans do not have time to sit down and learn everything in linux when windows and osx makes everything so easy.

  • @angermanagementguy

are you implying that linux isn't easy??

or significantly harder than windows or osx??

  • it is no where near as easy as windows ya tool, windows = click a few buttons. ubunti = spend hours on end looking through forums to find out how to install a webcam

  • @MegaEpictroll

speak for yourself. i had no problems with my webcam..

and besides, most of those hardware problems aren't linux's fault. if hardware manufacturers don't make their drivers open, or don't update their linux drivers, there's not much we can do.. hardware manufacturers are the ones that decide if they want linux compatibility or not..

  • lol, i'll just stick to windows, but thanks for trying to argue that ubuntu is better than windows. You will never win this argument

  • @MegaEpictroll

nah.. i can't say one is better than the other. i'm just saying everybody has their preferences. what may be good for you, may not be good for others.. and vice versa..

    different strokes for different folks...

  • you will laugh at your comments in a few years. and also you will radically change your thoughts.

  • @rafique101 What does that mean ?

  • Can you say why and with arguments?

  • People use windows because most of the GAMES are for windows. I use windows only for gaming too...

The future is not so bright for MS. In the future programs and your data will be always accessible on the internet. No need of big operating systems anymore :) There will be a very light system on the computer, like Android - Chrome OS. Both are based on GNU/Linux. They are going to be free, lightweight and rapid

  • @axcrit Yeah, I've been using computers since DOS, I don't remember anyone using novell at home, again you think you know it all but you either know nothing, or you like to be an asshole and try to bait me with flat out bullshit. How long have people been using windows on the desktop? That's right, and since the GPL you can't make any money on making a good easy to use linux OS so there's no company to push its development like OS X or windows. I foresee it sucking for a long time.

  • ALso @SirVipera enjoy your shit ass cloud computing, how many people will want to pay a fee every month just to boot their fucking computer over the internet? Keep on dreaming buddy, local hardware for home use is here to stay, how well is a computer game going to run across the internet with the whole OS running across the net? How about 3D acceleration? You must be a complete moron.

  • @hmjgriffon I HOPE YOU SPEND ALL YOUR MONEY IN WINDOZE AND MAC ...

  • @hmjgriffon You obviously didn't read too much into the whole idea of the advertisement did you?

  • @SirVipera

In the future, like 5-10 years, I actually think game developers will make games for Linux and just not for Window$ (and perhaps Mac). At that time, I'm gonna change to Linux! :D

  • @ObamaGoesPostal Steam is coming to Linux, Valve has confirmed

  • @fullmetalmc

    how do you know?

  • @ObamaGoesPostal references to Linux were found in Steam for Mac and Valve confirmed rumors

  • @fullmetalmc

do you have a link to where valve confirms it?

  • @ObamaGoesPostal how should I send it to u? Youtube says I cant send u mssg cus Im not ur friend

  • @fullmetalmc

lol, hmmmmm... well nevermind, i guess i believe you :P

  • @SirVipera But for me, IMHO, the best gaming platform is game consoles like PS3, X360 or Wii... You don't have to update your drivers, download the patches, install newer versions of DirectX (for Windows) or libraries like SDL (for Linux). And most of the great games either come out only on consoles, or come on PCs months later. The only games PCs are (for now) better in are (IMHO) FPSes like Quake or Counter-Strike and MMORPGs.

  • @icgd1337r

thats just your opinion, because in mine consoles are a waste of money.

  • @linuxpowerification Well, that's your choice. But I prefer playing on consoles.

  • @SirVipera I use Windows, but I want to get a Mac. However, I am going to install Windows on it.

  • @emilner5 0.0

  • @emilner5

For everyday surfing on internet, movies and normal activities, windows, mac os x and linux is equally good.. what are you going to use the windows on a mac for?

  • @SirVipera Windows Media Center and Windows Messenger.

  • @SirVipera Games are made for windows, but with WINE you can change them into a format for linux.

  • @belmarfilms

Yes you can but it's a lot of trouble with it..

It's like installing old games on windows 7, theoretically it works, but in the most case you must download the crack even if you have the original CD and key..

  • @SirVipera And not as complex as Windows is =)

  • @SirVipera

I will still wear external memory like it's jewelry, for my "most vital," data and live USB (and what ever replaces it) linux distros. XD

  • @SirVipera Microsoft is the future and all product of microsoft are best product in the universe

  • @wokerm that's just your opinion, not everyone agrees with it

  • @SirVipera Microsoft is the future and all product of microsoft are best product in the universe redhat is best tow but windows 8 and hpc server of microsoft is better than redhat product

  • @hmjgriffon actually I doubt that microsoft will do anything, so far it seems to me like they are trying to ignore linux XD

  • "Then you win...."

Then you realise that most people don't even know they have a operating system, let alone know how to use Linux. FTFY.

  • despite monopoly, linux happens.

  • @aarobc I've been using Ubuntu since 7.04, and its been great!

  • Im running ubuntu right now.

  • S- Great vid

  • excellent

  • GNU/Linux FTW emacs rules!!!

  • Nano pwns Emacs =)

  • @FrozenIceCweam I eat nano with my toast in the morning :)

  • ZOMG, Me too. It helps when coding digestion. =)

  • Can you write extensions for nano?

  • No, Its like the google chrome of Text editors, its just an engine and emacs is something i don't have time to learn lol.

  • How can I download this to show others while offline?

  • @computir

If you use Firefox or any other browser that has the ability to install Firefox plugins (like Iceweasel or Epiphany). Then you should look for 'DownloadHelper'.

Install it and then there will be an icon of DownloadHelper on the left of the title of this video. Click on it and the download will be triggered.

  • google it.

  • linux is gr8 they are open source

  • DioSS SURT BILLY GATES al TALEGO !!!!JAJAJAJAJA

  • good!!!!

  • WOW... It is just a matter of time... linux has got what it's needed for future!

  • Best comparison I have heard is this...

Macs are like buying a foreign car that works great but is more expensive and needs special parts/mechanics.

Microsoft is like buying a pooly made but cheap car. Parts are plentiful, but everything seems to always be breaking. But that is what mechanics are for.

Linux is like having a group of mad people down the street giving away M1 Abrams tanks for free, and wondering why everyone isn't jumping to taking one.

Most people can't drive a tank.

  • Like that comparison !!!!
