  • Does ZnSO4 work the same if mixed the same with sulfur?

  • keep pressing 8, for awesomeness.

  • @phoenixagape333 lol such a good one thanks

  • mhmmm hydrogen sulfide great for the lungs

  • Is it safe to mix by sieving or is the diaper method essential?

  • @Chemdxstr i mixed it in a cup with a spoon and it was fine didnt explode

  • must smell really bad and have u confined it yet?

  • wouldn't go so far as to call this ''flash powder''

  • the most efficient ratio zinc:sulphur is 2:1 RIGHT?

  • @roboticmehdi no wrong

  • haha nice... never would have thought of doing that :)

  • If you are in the US, 1 cents contains zinc. Just heat them and the zinc will flow out of the bronze casing. Canadian 1 cent from 1997 to 2000 also have a zinc core.

  • @vmelkon its copper on the outside, not bronze, and when you melt them them you get a sludge of black copper stuff semi mixed with the zinc, but yes that would be a good way to get zinc, especially because you can do it in the kitchen

  • this isn't flash powder..

  • Mine buns much faster. But I use 3micron zinc powder and ballmilled sulfur dust.

    Just use stoichiometric ratio's.

  • you can get it in a drug store both of them

  • i really need zinc and sulfur right now! how can i get them? steal from school?

  • The zinc can be taken from normal AAA batteries. You just have to get your hands (gloves) dirty. grind it on glass paper or grinding machine. And you're good to go

and you can buy the sulphur from a flower shop it will be called..... flowers of sulphur

  • ya.. just take the shield of a AA battery and then the.. thing that has black stuff inside is made of zinc (: in lithium batteries you ca find the alkali metal ''lithium'' just search on ''NurdRage'' a youtube scientist (:

  • my teacher gave me 5 cans of zinc ..

    That must be about 3kg

I don't kno why... they gave me when i just told them i need one....

  • hmm... zinc isnt that from the cheap batteries? like in duracell there isnt zinc or am i wrong and btw where can i get sulfur

  • were can i get zinc in sweden?

  • cool how sensitive is this mixture

  • nice,

i aint got that much but

i got a half gram video up

    its magnesium and sodium thiosulphate

  • Hey the thermocromatic properties of zinsuplhide can be seen clearly, nice.

  • almost every gardning store its used to lower the ph level of soils

  • where d u get sulfur

  • is it 6 zinc to 1 sulfur

  • woah :0

  • is flash or black powder better?

  • what do you think? whatever you think, IT's WRONG.

  • Well define "better".

  • Watch my video I have a small test Black Powder verses flash powder.. if your smart that wouldn't even be a question its just common sense :D

  • wow thats an odd flash powder mixture. COOL!!!

  • lol i made some too

  • WICKED BRO!

  • 6 parts zinc, 1 part sulfur?

  • Zn + S ==> ZnS + boom

Zinc has about twice the molar mass of sulfur, so I should think that you would want 2 parts zinc and 1 part sulfur (by weight).

  • yeah, the actual reaction taking place is a mixture of S + O2 --> SO2, Zn + O2 --> ZnO2 and Zn + S ==> ZnS

  • english dude.........

  • It is english, go to high school and take a chemistry class.

  • lol im 15, i udnerstand it, but it would be a lot better in chemical or element table terms.

  • for good flash what should i combine with mag. besides potassium per. to make good flash

  • KNO3

  • Hi, can you tell me what the mix of that was beacause i have been trying to make rockes using kno3 and sugar and to be honest they dont take of because there usauly to heavy, i need sumthing more powerfull. ANd howmany grams was that?

  • If you dont know dont try flash powder is very unstable start with black powder

  • but zinc and sulphur are both used in rocket fules, u dont meed perchlorate flash

  • I've got a chem set at home with Potassium Permanganate, Zinc and Sulfur.

Any chance of getting a good flash powder out of that?

Also, I know there is a formulation that only need a couple drops of water on it to ignite it, anyone know what it is?

  • its a mixture of ammonium nitrate, zinc powder and a pinch of salt. search for negative X i think.

  • the real ingredients for negative x are

    Ammonium Nitrate - 14.0 grams

    Ammonium Chloride - 1.5 grams

    Zinc Dust - 34.5 grams

  • na theres another one its like potassium permanganate, sugar and al i think.....

  • Potassium Permanganate is such a powerful oxidizer that it usually catches things on fire like glycerine.

  • na theres another one its like potassium permanganate, sugar and al i think.....

  • does any1 noe a good flash to make with potassium permangante??besides the one with al

  • potassium permanganate and magnesium is good, or potassium permanganate aluminium and sulfur

  • that is not flash powder, 1g og flash powder is enough to make a loud "pop", about 4-5g makes a "boom". you have 32g and it just burns.

  • mine makes a pretty good thump at 0.2 grams

  • How fine is the zinc powder?

  • does this explode when confined? 32 grams of unconfined kclo4/aluminum flash powder would leave that tray in pieces.

  • It does. its sulfur is nowhere near the oxidizing agent that Perchlorate is, nor is zinc as good a reducing agent as aluminum. This is more of a propellent than an explosive.

  • oh yea i know that this is actually listed as a rocket propellant comp. but wat makes it flash powder?

  • magnesium/sulfur changes everything.

    epic reduction

  • i finally got my kclo4 not bad for my first try 0.2 grams gave a nice thump

  • @piroflash93 Lots of kick not much pressure...

  • hey, where can i get this stuff from?

  • the internet

  • @Foxtrotx1 what mesh is the zinc ??

  • where can I get zinc powder plz help

  • Try a Pharamacy or online dude XD!!!

  • My calculations seem to indicate the ratio of zinc:sulphur should be 2:1. What made you use a ratio of 6:1?

  • Trial and error, comparing the energies of reactants, alternate reaction paths, excess reactant to drive the reaction forward, and a man named Dr. Shakashiri.

  • back yeard and bucket chemistry, the best, and i just relised i have zinc AND sulper and some pipes..... PIPE BOMB!!

  • This is a rocket propellant... Not flash powder, but still it is very fun...

Granulating it leaves space for more air and it should burn more explosively like lift\granulated BP then meal powder...

  • Advice:

    Granulate.

  • Granulate? That would cause the reaction to proceede slower, its already EXTREMELY fine, making the particles larger would lower surface area of the reactants i believe.

  • Pulverone Zinc Sulphur Flash.

Works wonderful in enclosed report charges. I usually sift it over a lead dioxide rough surface and turn it into little needles of the stuff while it's wet.

Have you tried Magnesium/Sulphur reduction flash yet?

  • No, just left for college, all i took is my powdered zinc which i plan to melt into a nice paper wieght in memory of all my near death experiences. (chemistry major)

    Long live backyard chemisty!

  • Bad idea, bad bad idea.

  • Whats the comp. for pulverone zinc/sulfur flash?

  • 6 Zinc 4 Sulphur
