is it just me or are new cars slower than old ones i mean i used to have an old 1998 2litre vauxhall vectra and that would do 145mph top speed and 105mph in 3rd gear so it does seem due to eu regulations that new cars are slower
@shredmaster100 Closer gear ratios mean cars have slower tops speeds and lower top speeds in gear. Your 1998 was probably lucky to have 5 gears. Now cars are getting 7 cogs, so the top speed in gear and overall will be lower. Better acceleration and probably better economy too.
it did have very long gear ratios as i said 105mph in 3rd gear but i will admit the acceleration was terrible took like 9.5 seconds to get to 60 so the gear ratios must have been very long also i did forget to mention i bought it at one of these ex police car dealers so it must have been a motorway car i think in the end the gearbox went so i had to scrap a few years back now ive got a cheap 96 skoda felicia bought it for 300 quid and it has quick acceleration for a 1.3 lol
The car is a 200bhp TFSi not a diesel. When this video was taken the car was stock.
I now have a completely different setup and the car will now do 171mph Microstat GPS timing gear proven. That is the fastest any Mk2 Octavia can go unless you change the gearbox as I was virtually redlining in 6th to get that speed. All done on the autobahn.
@muthu161 my stock 0-100km/h (0-62mph) timing was 7.2 secs. My stock 0-100mph (0-160km/h) was 17.4 secs.
Er trust me when this video was taken the car was stock. I dont know what my 0-200km/h time was as i never recorded it. The only timings i have ever recorded were 0-62mph (0-100km/h) and 0-100mph (0-160km/h) and got 7.2 and 17.4 respectivley.
I trust you ... Your 0-100 and 0-160 times are the stocks cars value :) Aren't you planning to chip it ? I have the same car and after superchips the difference is huge :)
No it wasnt in the UK it was done on the autobahn in germany. As i said below i wouldnt even contemplate driving anywhere near that speed in the UK. I kinda like my freedom
No really on a recent blast down the autobahn i got over 32mpg with alot of running at over 140mph. I do lots of trips through europe, wanted the 2.0T but my company refused so got the next best thing.
i must say its really interestin watchin a speedo! where did you do this top speed? on a public road i suppose like a few of the utha idiots on here. get a life hope the coppers can arrest you lot on here who arent doing it safely, I.E on a race track!
Hmmm yeah ur right i was doing it on a Public Road. However the public road i was on has no speed limit. It's called the Autobahn. I live in Germany. But thankyou for your Opinion it's duly noted and your entitled to it. Just dont try and force it down my throat :)
Your Right a 1.8 Skoda wont but if you read the title it tells you its a Mk 2 which means it's a 2.0 200bhp TFSi which will do 163mph given enough road
Nice cars. Lovely to drive but I find them a bit twitchy on the back end and too light at the front. Makes it uncomfortable to drive at speed and you have to be light footed in the wet. Great fun though!!
ok...but Veyron has 1000bhp and u only 200:)...anyway the car is good to drive and a raport price-performance very good. in a few months I want to buy one...If u can make other movies and put them here...:)
this car gone with max 147mph....what i see there is almost 165 or even more...make a new movie ..post him and make the speedmeter to see more clearly...no ofence!:)anyway is a niice car! drive carefully!:)
The speedo may say 163mph (which is what it did) the Satnav aid 156mph. Manufacturer claims 149mph.I was on an Autobahn and had about 10 clear miles of road any car that can do around 150mph will get that out of it given enough road. Dont forget it took James May (From TopGear)5 miles to get 254mph out of a Bugatti Veyron
Jmaes May did a GPS Proven 254mph or 407.56KMH on topgear at VW's test track. Obviously a Skoda can get to 163Mph as i did it. If you also read the Info bit i state that the GPS indicated a Speed of 156mph. Which will be the more accurate of the 2. Again thankyou for the comment. just make sure you sort your facts before you next write. It's better to be thought an idiot than to actually stand up and confirm it :) :P
you cant just remap to get 250bhp. Youll get the torque but not the power. a remap typically gives about 230ish bhp and around 300ft/lb torque depending on where you go. to get 250bhp you need Induction Kit, Exhaust, Stage 2 Remap & Uprated Diverter Valve as a minimum
I'm sure you can get 250bhp out of the 2.0TFSi engine. In fact I'm positive as I've driven one that had been Revo'd to about 255 I think. Went like stink.
No the car is totally standard.I made the Video so that i could document any gains made by any mods i put on the car. The car is only 4 months old hence no mods yet

Great car. In this part of Scotland just about every second one you see is a Taxi but that only shows how reliable they are.
I certainly hope German drivers pay more attention before changing lanes than some people in the UK!

Rubbish MPG, My tdi 170 will do 145mph all day at 32mpg, heard other people claiming 155mph when chipped to 230bhp.
thompson134 3 years ago
hmmm i find 32mpg hard to believe at 145mph.
Also you can get more than 155mph when chipped. I was doing 156mph max on this run and my car is standard.

You need to remap it from 200bhp to about 250bhp and it will do 160mph easily enough.
It takes a while to get there but it will do it.
