The goal of the robot isn't to look "realistic" it's to help find divers, locate submarines, and numerous other tasks that don't need it to look pretty. The application of an aqua robot isn't limited to one task, sure you can put a rubber skin on them, but why spend the extra money?

Robots don't need to look good, a robot just has to complete a set task (in this case its swimming). What youre talking about is animatronics, were its only purpose is to look and move like a particular creature.

I geuss if i made a Robot tat had a mind of its own, I would code it with matrix, IE positive correlation would make it turn left, Negative would make it turn right... Light sensors would Change the correlation to the opposite, So if it was going to hit the wall, It would change it to make it turn!
