in my opinion the bends is thier best album because every single track is a masterpeice (bullet proof....i wish i was is the best track) and also because its very centimental to me since i bought that album in a very intense part of my life
but kid a and HTTT are sooo much more artistic and atmospheric
the next album will be their best ever. in rainbows is lovely, but gimme a mix of in rainbows with the intimate intellect and darkness of amnesiac/kid a. i just see thoms continued electronic development infused with the radiohead band members producing nothing short of brilliant for the 8th album
@muslimraver i agree with u in that HTTT is a great album and that rainbows is probs the best (so far, new album soon :D) but would have to say that amnesiac and Kid A are better then the bends imo
@theParanoidification I love Kid A and Amnesiac, it's Just and Fake Plastic(particularly when played live at Saitama) that push The Bends above for me. To be honest though, is there really much in any of the albums?
I believe it's on the Rough Mixes of HTTT that leaked before the actual album. The rough mixed version of The Gloaming I have is much longer and repeats "This is the gloaming" a couple of times.
I don't think I've seen any live attempt at this track besides From The Basement in which Thom doesn't sound like shit. That alone makes me prefer the album version over live.
Musically, I love both versions. The studio has a bit of a tribal feel, especially in the final quarter of the song. The live version is altered by adding a bit of a jazz breakdown in the choruses, which is equally good. I don't see why people hate this song so much, when there's tracks on there that are much worse.
You're full of shit. The album version is horrid but the live version is awesome. Obviously you have never been to a concert where they have played the gloaming. I do agree that it could have been a B-side.

Excuse me? It is my opinion, and I think this is a fantasticly boring song, both studio and live version. There is a reason I always skip this song when I listen to Hail To the Thief. And no, I haven't even been to a Radiohead concert.
even radiohead themselves dont like the album version as much as when they do it live. they change it up and jazz it up live with a lot of loops. live is better
I can understand that but I'm the opposite way, I wasn't a huge fan of the album version but when I saw this show live (well not this one, but same tour) I was blown away by it. I was lucky (and later broke) enough to see them in nyc and chicago and they did it a bit different each time. I guess its an experimental song live.
It's definitely the added part that isn't in the studio version. That makes the song infinitely better. The opposite is true for Fog. When they take everything out except Thom and piano, that song is epic.
thom has stated in an interview that after they recorded HTTT, he hated it. He went on to say that he loves performing the songs live because it gives him a chance to revisit them (and i would add, give him a chance to play the songs with his current age/emotions rather than what's stuck on the records/CDs for an eternity).
@thelilbearbeeny It has a lot to do with how quickly they recorded the album too. I think it's still a good record, but pretty much all the songs are 10x better live. That's just a testament to their skill though, I think. This was definitely a highlight when I saw them.
@poeisi Seriously? I love the album version. Its so groovy. Just how all the layers work together. Its amazing. This is great too. I love the bass groove
If a group ever had to follow Radiohead, they should just cut to the chase and take a big shit in the middle of the stage
