  • thats sad

  • wow thats so terrifying that they EVER had drains like that. the fact that someone could get stuck in it so quickly is so scary.

but the other male lifeguard, bj? he is SO hot ;)

  • how do the recue 911 ppls get these events on videotape if they didn't know it was going to happen????

  • The guy at 2:12 looks like Jack from Titanic

  • how did they get this video ??

  • @BeautifulXable It's a re-enactment.

  • 2:41 he made a mistake

  • @Annrawwhhh I have a phobia of pool drains. xD

  • hey do you know how this was recorded?

  • is this true??

  • I remember watching this when it aired. I was pretty young and so cautious when I dove into a pool from then on. They should have Oxygen tanks at every swimming pool.

  • There was no "drain cover".

Im thinking back then pool regs. were not as strict as now.

  • I got a limb stuck in a pool drain once...the water was shallow, so it was more embarrassing than dangerous.

Yes, the vents can generate considerable suction.

  • THERE SEEMS TO BE LOT OF PANIC!

    PANIC!

  • And this is why there is a plastic grate on the drain.

  • I wish they didn't cancel this show :-(

  • do you see how they pulled him to shore... wow.. lol fail.. your suppose to put your arms underneath their underarms. lifeguarding sucked in the 90's im guessing.

  • ye lol, and the fact how they just turned him over, probs just because of acting but you would have thought they would have made it look proffesional, and the fact that they pulled him to shore with his head into water lol

  • Doesn't matter if the pumps are off. His arm will stuck due to the vacume build up.

  • He put his hand in there to mKe sure that nothing was in there and no, no pools have the new drain screen all of them are still the same and most hotels still hvebthe same screen

  • Honestly, I really don't like the idea of young people having all this responsibility. On those occasions when they can't manage to save someone, it's really unfair ask them to have to deal with the horrible trauma that surely comes with that.

  • COULD THIS HAPPENNN??? ima start training!!! wtff!

  • its cause the drain is like a suction cup but that cant be possible that they left it open they have to cover them up but in 2008 a little girl went swimming at a crappy motel pool and a drain was open and her body parts got sucked out EWW!

  • I am so glad there are grates on the drains these days. Nobody else needs to go though this. Thank god he lived.

  • where the hell was the drain cover? 0_0

  • I guess turning the pumps off is the decision made in an instant that Shatner was referring to at the beginning of the episode.

  • StMuttley, This is a reanactment, things were probably slightly changed, and also you cant do CPR on a person that is totally fine, it could kill them, thats why the arms are bent. In renactments the people act it out. So stop rediculing the reanactment. The big that dove in was an off-duty paramedic, Im sure everything in the REAL situation was done properly.

  • What kills me is that he is still face-down in the water once they bring him to the surface of the pool...

  • stupid americans the first thing you should do is turn off the pumps

  • @Hornylildevil20

OH,how would you like it if I said YOUR countrys ppl were stupid and YOU should have turned off the pumps FIRST!Youre lucky he was got out

  • That would be VERY scary!!!

  • wasnt there an episode just like this one but the person stuck in the pool drain was a younger boy?

  • Yes, it's called "Pool Child" from Episode 106.

  • This is why pool drains should always have covers on them. I

  • I'm a lifeguard myself, and I was freaking out in my head because it's so scary when someone's under the water and can't get back up and you have to help them.

This story is a miracle :)

  • that was extremely dangerous and stupid what misty did at 1:12 letting her hair get near the drain that could have got her stuck too

  • I remember watching this video when I was 6 or 7, It's always stayed with me. Scared me really bad ass a child!

  • the drains at the pool are that dangerous because you can take of the drain cover and won't feel nothing but the drain gets narrower that means more suction cause same as a river wide river less flow small or tides out more stream

  • the lifegaurd should not have made the call, a bystander should of, you shouldnt dive, you should perform a safe entry cause a dive takes your eyesight off a casualty, they didnt say lifegaurd entering water and there was no need for abdominal thrusts cause he isnt choking, compressions were done wrong and if he started breathing again they shouldve put him into recovery position and put a blanket on him. he probably had a siezure cause of the sloppy mistakes they made

  • lol

  • I have been terrified of drains sicne I was 3 years old! I don't know why since I'd nebver been trapped in one or had a problem but, they just terrify me! and still to this day!

  • she did the right thing at 1:10

  • I love the way he just shut off the pump isolators - soaking wet!!! He could have been Barbequed

  • I don't blame her for freaking out, no help could arrive fast enough to stop him from drowning, he's lucky they shut the pump off in time

  • There should always be a screen covering the drain hole. Anyone could have gotten stuck there.

  • i lifegaurd.

our pool had to get the system completely re done.

we went from one drain to two and new drain covers i dont understand why there wasnt a cover on that drain. even 80's pools had covers i think they should be sued for neglience or something

    our pump is so powerful

  • That negligent "lifeguard" put his life at risk for a pair of goggles? He left his post vacant for a pair of goggles? I don't know of any lifeguards who would stop doing his damn job just to pull a pair of goggles from a drain.

  • lol wow terrible reenactment part when they bring him to the edge.

his face is under the water when the whole point is to get him out.

  • IMAC2200... This is a reenactment. They don't actually play the 911 call in this episode

  • at 0:28, misty is breaking one 9-1-1 calling rule.....staying calm, if you don't believe me, just listen to the tone of her voice, at all times when calling 9-1-1 is to remain calm.

  • that is natural reaction!

  • stfu

  • IMAC2200 this is Cst. Alm from the Sylvan Lake RCMP police detachment i would like to remind you ( i am in no way trying to be a smart ass) that this is not indicated as an actual call so i am 98% sure that call was an re-inactment but you are 100% right the number 1 911 calling rule is to remain calm :)

  • coulda maybe pulled him out if more strong people from the poolside had helped out, alternatively, the guard should had an oxygen bottle close by to give him air under water.

  • Thanks for putting the vides, allgood2000!

  • I am TERRIFIED of those black lines to. Even watching the part one video of this, seeing the lines gave me some anxiety. This video sure does not help :(

  • i'm terrified too and pool lights really scare me

  • wat lines r u talking about?

  • amazing dives going on, here. as a lifeguard though, im looking at more than just that :P

  • you are so great allgood2000! Thank You! And I love how you give a perfect description of each segment :)

  • 2 years ago i went to the public pool and i went underwater and the drain was pulling me because a little kid took the screen off. I held on to the side and even then it still had a little pull. I am fricken scared to death of going near those things now.

  • Back then the drains didn't have screens on them. So stop complaining about them not putting a drain cover on. They didn't know that much about drains back then.

  • How Come When Everyone Tries To Get Him Out He Doesnt Then The Ambulance Comes And He Automatically Come Out? x

  • Well they did turn the pump off so I guess it takes a while for it to respond.

  • That kid who asked for the Goggles

    He probally got grounded :P

  • First of all why isnt there a fuckin screen over the drain,

and i would hate to be a lifegaurd, because someone elses life is in your hands if they drown=\

  • as a lifeguard, i know that you are NOT supposed to mess with the drain when there is not a screen over it. in fact, the pool is not allowed to be OPEN when there's no screen on the drain.

  • yes, but u must remember that this is likely from the 80s..lots of new policies, rules and regulations have been implemented since then.

  • even if he did have a spinal injury it's life over limb so even if he was parazlyed you would've just hauled him out of there CPR him

  • DUDE! THIS is the episode that has given me a phobia of not only pool drains, but of those creepy black lines painted on the bottom. (dumb, i know) but it remained in my memory as a kid and still freaks me out to this day

  • Don't worry I'm freaked out about the lines at the bottom of the pool too.

I never knew the drains were so dangerous!! Thankfully I've never like them to begin with. It just feels scary when you put your feet on them.

  • wow

  • how the FUCK did he survive

  • Recently a boy got totally sucked into one of those drains, his body was found in the pump room. People should put cover on these drains and nail them down properly.

  • there was a cover on the drain but the boy lifted it up!

  • people just dont care to do anything in this world anymore. some people are just freaking lazy.

  • why on earth was the drain cover not on ( check part1) . im not saying its his fault , but erm if theres a huge drain without a cover on it , you just dont shove your hand down it & even with a cover on it ?? although this just scared me even more of Drains & Filters and everything elseunder water . Thankgod he never Died xoxox.

  • close the main drain valve!

  • Poor lifeguard I hope he's ok

  • 1:31... I thought they cleared the pool. So why do I see a dozen pairs of legs in the shot?

  • Comment removed

  • Actually the little girl, Abigail Taylor, died. Even though she had 3 new organs, liver, intestines, and pancreas.

She asked her mom to keep it from happening to any other kids. He parents helps make a new Federal law regulating public pool and hot tub drains.

  • I was a Lifeguard for 5 years, and i had one incident like this. A patron had laid down on top of the covered drain and kept her on the bottom of the floor. I imeadatly turnd off the pump and brought her out, luckly she had just stopped breathing and stil had a pulse. The drains in most pools now have a raised cover that decreases suction so that if a patron does get pulled in its not a strong current and they can be easily removed

  • yes, thank GOD the boy didn't die!!!

  • This video was heartbreaking. I must say. THEY WERE ALL HEROS!! THEY were very bbrave, and I mean, the way they handled the situation even though it was VERY SCARY was GREAT. THANK YOU S MUCH for posting.

  • wow spoiler

  • As a Life Guard, he should have known basic safety rules such as STAYING AWAY FROM THE VENTS. He acted very foolish but luckily for him, his friends didn't.

  • And this is why swimming over the drain at the pool scared me when I was little...

    x___x

  • damn, that guy is hella lucky...

funny how much lifeguarding has changed, I guess it has been 18 years since this, but, theres definitely some huge differences...

  • Thats crazy that the drains had no covers.... What the heck !!

  • I wonder why a lifeguard would put his hand in the drain. ^^

It's funny how the off-duty staff are sitting at home with their scanners waiting for an alarm to beat the on duty guys to the scene.

They sure had some funny hair cuts back in the days.

  • these lifeguards are epic fails. after they get him out of the drain and on the top of the water, they pull him over to the side... face down! wtf. and his cpr compressions are terrible, its like hes never done them before.

  • I just wanna know why there was no cover on the drain. The best way to save someone it to prevent it from ever happening. If there was a cover, the goggles would never have been lost, so crisis avoided. Idk, just my thoughts

  • And that's what instigated the Virgina Graeme Baker act. Pools are now required to have safe drain covers that discourage suction.

  • That's it! I'm never going into a pool where there is no screen on the drain, or let my kids swim in there if I had any kids

  • Who the FUCK sits on a drain?

    thats the stupidest thing every.

What parent would ALLOW that too?

  • I WISH I HAD BEEN KISSED BY MISSY

  • WOW!!!!!

  • it should have had a cover on it its against the law now

  • that girl is pretty hot considering it was the 80's-90's

  • THIS HAPPENED to me with a pools vaccum it sucked me under into a deep end put a lifeguard pulled me out

  • that almost happened to me also.when i was walking over a flat drain about a year ago, it cracked right in half and i was like WTF? god damn drains r scary!

  • thats scary!

  • i am never dropping my goggles.

  • i hope he is ok

  • All i can say i feel so sad for the guy i can hold my breath for like 1min and 34 sec so yeah....

  • omg thats so horrifying

  • I've always been scared of pool drains, but this just makes it worse.

  • ive heard of that. u have to be realy carefull. i took a trip to vegas with my family . my mom my brother and i went swimming in the casino's pool and the same thing almost happened to me. those drains are realy srong.

  • I feel very sorry for him. its a very good thing he didn't die.

  • That dispatcher sounded so unfriendly and uncaring. And his facial expressions. I really hope that that was just poor acting and not him. I mean it was like he was saying "o brother y is she calling me". Buddy if u were acting, stick to your day-job. If not, u need a reality check.

  • i thought they got everyone out. but why was there still people in while one of the lifeguards jumped in. kinda of a bad reenactment ?

  • How would she do that, as the small intestine is the part of the intestine closer to the stomach than to the behind...sonds like some made up horror story to me...

  • Yeah, our pool has to buy new drain covers, or they will be shut down.

  • i wouldnt mind getting stuck under there if she gave me air through her mouth

  • yeah i saw that. shes 17 now and still recieving therapy for the incident.

  • It just shows u the power of God's grace.

  • no, i heard that story too. she died a week or two later from an infection. =(

  • its acting im a trainee lifeguard and thats not the way u ''tow'' a casualty :)

  • Poor guy,... but etleased hi is stil alive

i won't be a life guard at all

  • Yes it is. It's a true story, but this is a re-enactment of what really happened. When it's not acting, Shatner will say "This story is not a recreation" at the beginning of the segment, or it will "Footage Taped on [date of the incident]" on the screen.

  • Now, that's what lifeguards r 4!

  • i bet the lil kid that asked him to get his goggles feels like shit....

  • yeah

  • Yeah lol.

  • haha yeah

  • Actually I do.. I am glad that he had a great outcome...

  • poor guy luckily he didnt die

  • good acting!

  • These shows scare the hell out of me, but I just keep watching them nevertheless.

  • this show doesnt do it, but unsolved mysteries does omg that show freaks me out

  • wow this should of never fuckin happened. why the fuck was there no screen over the fuckin drain. who ever was in charge of the pool maitinence should be shit canned. lol but im glad I've never had to jump in.

  • A lot of the situations presented on Rescue 911 could've been prevented easily. People just don't think sometimes.

  • wow!! great job for the lifewuard...!! he is hott..!!! hahahaha i really like the job of the lifeguard..!! :)

  • Wow.. o-o I wanna give him a hug.. ;-;

  • whats that next one?

  • It's a ride-along with Tampa, FL cops as they track members of a stolen car ring.

  • and if I remember rightly, didn't you say under another video that the Tampa Cops documentary segment that follows this one was omitted from the Cbs version of this episode?

  • No, the Tampa Cops docu was shown on CBS. When this episode aired on CBS, it was shown as 50-minute episode and it only had three segments. When it aired on FAM, a fourth segment was inserted so that the episode would fill the full hour timeslot; the fourth segment was the story about a toddler trapped in a house fire, originally seen on Episode 109.

  • All good lifeguards know where the pump shutoff is..and its usually pretty close

  • Misty is crazy hot.

  • when ever i go swimming i stay the fuck away from those drains, one time i jumped and did i cannon ball and my foot went through the drain vent and started sucking, but i swam and kicked and got the fuck out of there---i hate fucking drains, anybody else have stories??

  • Makes me wonder why the hell there was no grate to stop that kinda thing...

  • there normally is....its pretty unusual for there to be a gap big enough to get a finger or toe through let alone an arm

  • LSUBOY74: I read your comment asking if anyone else had experienced the same thing. A few years ago, I heard about a little girl who was swimming in a public kiddie pool. She sat down directly on the drain. The suction was so powerful that it actually tore off part of her bathing suit and LITERALLY sucked out some of her intestines! True story! So sad. But yeah, I totally agree with you about how hazardous pool drains can be.

  • didnt she sit in a hot tub and get her intestines sucked out? thats what i heard.

  • i remember that too, oh my god what an eerie thought of getting your intesti........ (i can't even finish it) sucked out of you

  • i know X(

  • Wow. I didnt know the drains were that strong.. Scary effing stuff..... Im gonna have nightmares about this now.. poor kid..

    ugh...

  • I don't know why but as a kid I never used to go into the deep end of swimming pools because I was scared of the drain. I thought if you swam above it it might suck you down, highly unlikely it would have done but I still kinda have that fear now.

  • I have that same fear.

  • I wonder how old these people are now.

  • about 12 year older

  • 12 years? try about 18-19 years

  • Yea we know its acting but we're pinpointing out what the mistakes were. Yes, they did not need a board for this due to the fact it was not a suspected spinal, and ABC'S are a must and are the first things to act to. I am surprised he lived between no oxygen for 6 crucial minutes.. and the percentage of reviving somebody with proper CPR is still quiet low, but AED would be of better use.

Thank god i have not been in this type of situation and I hope never in my LIFE.

  • That pool should be filled up with cement and never used again

  • Guys you people are retarded. The video showed was OBVIOUSLY A DRAMATIZATION!

  • this is exactly why i dont go anywhere near those creepy things

  • same here mate.i hate poo drains *shudders*

  • hpyft07 is ryt,it is the guard's SOP to inspect the pool. hazards like the drain should be noted in the first place.that is very dangerous to pool users whether it is in the deep or shallow end.

  • Ok, you don't need to board him unless there is either no way the gaurds can get them out w/o a board or there is signs of neck/head trauma. because he was VSA they just got him out. also breathing/pulse trump injury, meaning that if they're not breathing and have a spinal, you're not waiting for the board, your doing a lift and starting CPR.

Also, why did the ems guy do the rescue? the guards should have been 2 giving AR from the time they knew he was under and 1 or 2 trying to get him free.

  • I love the lesson and words of learning at the end of all the Rescue 9-1-1s!!!

  • OMG THATS SCARY!!!

  • الحمد للة على السلامة واللة يهديني ويهديكم.

  • omg this is scary thats pob thats wh my mom tells me not to do that and is it ture that if u stay under water befor 6 min can u die

  • bbott22 are you even a lifeguard? if someone is unconscious and there is no reason to believe that the victim suffered a neck or spinal injury why would you put them on the backboard? you preform a lift or a removal to get the victim out of the pool. The reason why he jumped in was to retrieve the patrons goggles. they said that his section of the pool he was guarding thinned out so he likely signaled the other guard to cover. and there is nothing wrong with jumping in for a second to get cool

  • These videos are not funny. This is serious stuff.

  • wow those two lifeguard guys are really hot!

  • Also, I don't understand why people are talking about backboards, why in the world would you think that the MOI has anything to do with a possible head, neck, or back injury? Just a side note, the female lifeguard very well could of possibly saved his life, she delivered oxygen intervention early enough to keep his brain from shutting down/damage.

  • cuz the way u are supposed to get someone out of a pool if they are not concious is using a backboard. you don't just pull them out. another thing....why did he get in the pool if he was on duty? that was stupid on his part....you should never do that.
