shut up guys. we had to memorize this whole play not cutting anything from it. no intermission. if we messed up we had to sit out our entire recess until we had it perfect. the play took 3 hours but i don't know how
@Maishy100 He didn't choose the wrong side. He just got killed because he had offended Mark Antony in his speeches, because Mark Antony was becoming a very dangerous tyrant. What's wrong in this choice?
@awesomeirlable I only have to memorize "Friends, Romans, Countrymen" Up to " He Was my friend, faithful and just to me, Brutus said he was ambitious, and Brutus was an honorable man" so its not as bad as the whole thing
@awesomeirlable Wow! English teachers are still making kids memorize this speech? I memorized it back in middle school. I wish I had access to Brando's performance back then (1997-98, YouTube didn't exist yet).
What annoyed me was we had to memorize the speech, but the teacher didn't explain what it MEANT! What was Marc Antony saying? What was his motivation for addressing his fellow Romans?
"It's much more important to teach children to question what they read."
@NgJackal1990 I'd suggest you read the text along with this, it sounds a lot clearer then. I think it's pretty clear English, but the quality and the manner of his talk may be confusing.
As hammy as Miss Piggy - a real amateur performance from a Brando considerably out of his depth. He squanders openly hendiatris with a staccato shout and then tries to act the speech with his eyes and jaw line; feigning rhythm by moving backwards and forwards.
Possibly the greatest actor of the 20th century in a role that isn't "like" Shakespeare, but IS Shakespeare... Even today it's enough to make you want to go to Rome and start a riot!
@gsinghbjatt77 *what the f*** Come on we are on the internet. We can spell things out here, save that for your other stupid friends when you text each other.
@gsinghbjatt77 *you're there is a difference. Are you an 11 year old boy hoping to get girls online by acting smart because if you are, IT IS NOT WORKING!!!!!!

@gsinghbjatt77 I am sorry but my boyfriend says that I shouldn't be talking to you because I do not know you so you are a stranger and I am not supposed to talk to strangers because strangers are normally gross, bad and perverts. And I thank you for calling me cute, my boyfriend thinks I am cute too, and he is quite pissed that you are being a perv.
@Driben894 Hehehehehe!!!!! I'm one of them! My teacher said this is one of the famous speeches in History! So I decided to take a look in youtube for myself!!
Haha yeah I'm memorizing this too for sophmore english. I heard a bunch of kids saying they were gonna listen to this in their sleep. Wonder how much my class will hit this up in the next twelve or so hours? It's at 199,828 views right now.
I'm beginning to see that what makes this speech a particularly hard hitting one, is not to rush it. To take time in the lines but not to pause for too long at any point. You can see Brando's elocution skills at work. Brando used to dig ditches for the money to pay for his acting lessons. That's real commitment and right here you can see what kind of emotion hard work puts into a man.
@wildvenisson I agree, this this is the first time I've seen this style. Brando uses alot of pauses in The Godfather. I thought that was part of his style, but this proves me wrong. He just knows how to make it work. Good info about the ditch digging.
Truly a Marc Anthony of all times. The depth of emotion, eloquence of character and power of speech. Brando's performance was impeccable. My most favourite speeches of all time.
Absolutely divine. Just when I thought I my respect for Brando had reached its peak. I did not even realize this was Brando at first, I had never seen him do anything Classical, he is just brilliant.
Great actor, with not bad looks too, finally a worthy actor with good looks, and great acting skills. Undoubtedly when he came into trial for this position, the director and others listened in awe and when he finished i bet the director was like, "Sir you indubitably have this position, no one else can perform better." At least that is what I would say.
Did this in Caesar seem ambitious? When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept. Ambition should be made of sterner stuff. Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, And Brutus is an honorable man. You all did see that on the Lupercal I thrice presented him a kingly crown, Which he did thrice refuse. Was this ambition? Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, And, sure, he is an honorable man. I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke, But here I am to speak what I do know.
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him. The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interrèd with their bones. So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus Hath told you Caesar was ambitious. If it were so, it was a grievous fault, And grievously hath Caesar answered it. Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest— For Brutus is an honorable man; So are they all, all honorable men— Come I to speak in Caesar’s funeral.
i have to memorize this for english class tommorow to recite in front of the class! haha. from the part where it says "Friends, Romans" to the where it ends at "& I must pause 'til it come back to me." ahsdjkfljsh
