  • i cry to much

  • Yeah im watching this movie in my english class :D

  • I love it!!! But I can't help thinking Mark Antony killed Cicero...

My heart is broken in two parts...

  • @ThePrinceSSC94

Cicero chose the wrong side and paid the price

  • @Maishy100 He didn't choose the wrong side. He just got killed because he had offended Mark Antony in his speeches, because Mark Antony was becoming a very dangerous tyrant. What's wrong in this choice?

  • @awesomeirlable I have to do it this year for school

  • @awesomeirlable Yep, last year!

  • Thumbs if you had to / are memorizing this speech

    JOIN ME BROTHERS IN THIS....recitation

    :DDD

  • @awesomeirlable I only have to memorize "Friends, Romans, Countrymen" Up to " He Was my friend, faithful and just to me, Brutus said he was ambitious, and Brutus was an honorable man" so its not as bad as the whole thing

  • @awesomeirlable Wow! English teachers are still making kids memorize this speech? I memorized it back in middle school. I wish I had access to Brando's performance back then (1997-98, YouTube didn't exist yet).

What annoyed me was we had to memorize the speech, but the teacher didn't explain what it MEANT! What was Marc Antony saying? What was his motivation for addressing his fellow Romans?

"It's much more important to teach children to question what they read."

  • @awesomeirlable half way there!

  • speech starts @ 0:52

  • where did u get this vid? i need one for a differnet part..

  • Yeah, we get it, you need to learn this for English. Now shut the fuck up.

  • Can some one say his whole speech again in simple English? :-/

  • @NgJackal1990 I'd suggest you read the text along with this, it sounds a lot clearer then. I think it's pretty clear English, but the quality and the manner of his talk may be confusing.

  • As hammy as Miss Piggy - a real amateur performance from a Brando considerably out of his depth. He squanders openly hendiatris with a staccato shout and then tries to act the speech with his eyes and jaw line; feigning rhythm by moving backwards and forwards.

  • Possibly the greatest actor of the 20th century in a role that isn't "like" Shakespeare, but IS Shakespeare... Even today it's enough to make you want to go to Rome and start a riot!

  • Brando was really good in this!!

  • 15 people really do believe Brutus is an honourable man

  • @andrewshere 16, well brutus is more like a puppet, Cassius is an honorable man

    Better get on that.

  • Haha yeah I'm memorizing this too for sophmore english. I heard a bunch of kids saying they were gonna listen to this in their sleep. Wonder how much my class will hit this up in the next twelve or so hours? It's at 199,828 views right now.

  • 199,760+ people had this as liturature homework. . . me included

  • SHOLIN

  • SCOIUANDTRACK

  • I'm in Grade 7 and I'm trying out for Mark Antony.

    I'm doing this speech.... :)

    This helped a lot! Thanks!!

  • You tell 'em, Markie!

  • THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH! Made my lit. class so much easier haha! :)

  • I listen to this like it's music

  • I must have caught some "bug" watching this because I want to watch all others perform this in comparison.

  • not many actors like these nowadays

  • I love this speech. I'm memorizing the whole thing for my english project. I'm gonna be wearing a toga and saying it in front of my class.

  • @Aelix26 a bit wierd...

  • @TheAlexx27 ya, but it required if i wanna get an A on the project

  • @Aelix26 Should get marked on how u speak it, not if u wear a toga hahaha

  • @Aelix26 Cool dude..be sure to upload pics.:P

  • @theimmaculatecrown well, i didn't take any pictures, but my teacher recorded everyone

  • Referring to this performance, John Huston said that watching Brando “was like seeing the door of a furnace opened in a dark room.”

  • @redetrigan Great quote.

  • I'm beginning to see that what makes this speech a particularly hard hitting one, is not to rush it. To take time in the lines but not to pause for too long at any point. You can see Brando's elocution skills at work. Brando used to dig ditches for the money to pay for his acting lessons. That's real commitment and right here you can see what kind of emotion hard work puts into a man.

  • @wildvenisson I agree, this this is the first time I've seen this style. Brando uses alot of pauses in The Godfather. I thought that was part of his style, but this proves me wrong. He just knows how to make it work. Good info about the ditch digging.

  • I first saw this back in 4th grade for public speaking class, we had to act it out in front of the class :>

  • blank verse v prose? blank verse always comes out on top.

  • I did this speach in my school's talent show. Go Marlon Brando! And Mark Antony.

  • Jor-El's ancestor???? xD

  • 12 people dont know how to do their english homework

  • Good movie, now everything is CGI

  • Truly a Marc Anthony of all times. The depth of emotion, eloquence of character and power of speech. Brando's performance was impeccable. My most favourite speeches of all time.

  • Brando is the fucking boss.

  • don't take ur hands off number 9 u will laugh so hard!!

  • keep pressing 5 to make mark antony cough keep pressing 6 to make him say homos and keep pressing 7 to make him say oh man!

  • Brando never learnt his lines but used cue cards and it shows here but he is still awsome I have never heard this speech better!!!

  • 12 people dislike this because they cant memorize this...

  • yup very gud video

  • Absolutely divine. Just when I thought I my respect for Brando had reached its peak. I did not even realize this was Brando at first, I had never seen him do anything Classical, he is just brilliant.

  • Finally a rendition where the emotions are right. Not to mention it is professional production. Thanks for uploading! : )

  • the first sarcastic speech in history

  • Great actor, with not bad looks too, finally a worthy actor with good looks, and great acting skills. Undoubtedly when he came into trial for this position, the director and others listened in awe and when he finished i bet the director was like, "Sir you indubitably have this position, no one else can perform better." At least that is what I would say.

  • @agemdog777 He's Marlon Brando. Doesn't that ring a bell?

  • @SpokenVerse yes, it does......

  • The first time I saw this I sat there in complete awe at the emotion evoked from his speech.

  • Had to memorize this part too. Thank you for posting, repetative listening does wonders!!

  • i have to say this speech at school

  • I'm favoring this because it was a really useful tool for memorization of his speach. Thank you pochido.

  • The acting was very convincing. All praise to the actor of Mark Antony.

It was both persuasive and bold. Two characteristics needed to pull this up.

    Bravo :)

  • Phenomenal Acting :)

  • Marlon Brando - the most versatile film actor of the 20th century.

  • You all did love him once, not without cause.

What cause withholds you then to mourn for him?

O judgment! Thou art fled to brutish beasts,

And men have lost their reason. Bear with me.

My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,

And I must pause till it come back to me.

  • Did this in Caesar seem ambitious? When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept. Ambition should be made of sterner stuff. Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, And Brutus is an honorable man. You all did see that on the Lupercal I thrice presented him a kingly crown, Which he did thrice refuse. Was this ambition? Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, And, sure, he is an honorable man. I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke, But here I am to speak what I do know.
  • He was my friend, faithful and just to me.

But Brutus says he was ambitious,

And Brutus is an honorable man.

He hath brought many captives home to Rome

Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill.

  • Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him. The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interrèd with their bones. So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus Hath told you Caesar was ambitious. If it were so, it was a grievous fault, And grievously hath Caesar answered it. Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest— For Brutus is an honorable man; So are they all, all honorable men— Come I to speak in Caesar’s funeral.

  • thanks, this vid really helped me the the emphasis and stress in the speech i had to memorize in my english class

  • i have to memorize this for english class tommorow to recite in front of the class! haha. from the part where it says "Friends, Romans" to the where it ends at "& I must pause 'til it come back to me." ahsdjkfljsh

  • He did a good job on this. Because of the changes in English Accent, it is very hard to make modern "RP" work with Shakespeare. Often the lines just don't run into each other with the original flow. I think he managed well on this occasion. I used this idea behind my last video.

  • Dunno bout Method acting, Brando mostly defied the Method stereotypes. That said, Brando "got" Shakespeare better than most Method guys.He later told Johnny Depp that he regretted not getting more classical training.

  • @cosmicdingo I read that John Gielgud, who assisted Brando during his research and training for this role, was really impressed by Brando's performance that he suggested that Brando go to England and act in more classical theater and that he would soon be ready in a few years to play Hamlet. I think Brando may have been flattered by the idea, but he was done with theater by then, plus he may have respected Shakespeare too much to think he would be able to do a decent job.

  • damn why cant I find acctual history stuff? not this Shakespeare bullshit

  • @lennydale92 I don't think the real Antony speech was recorded.

  • @itumbl Haha, phenomenal reply!

  • SO ARE THEY ALL; ALL HONOURABLE MEN!!!!

  • i love the way he says "honorable" sexy

  • I recited this today for my class in performing arts, its a great speech

  • His speech was pure brillance! Cassius was right in assuming that letting Mark Antony speak at Ceasar's funeral would be a bad idea.
