@diceasd Hi, your style isn't terribly difficult to animate but it's just a style. You have to apply principles of animation to any drawing to bring it to life. The style dictates the difficulty in applying these these principles. For example the more lines in the style the longer it takes to draw each drawing etc.
To animate anything convincingly does take time but also an understanding of the basic principles of animation and that takes a certain amount of talent and skill.
@AlgonquinAnimation ok thanks. i've downloaded a toonboom program and i'm still figuring out what all the features do and how the program works, but when i'm done with that and i know how it works i will bother you with some amateur stuff that is still in the making (probably violence and gore). thanks for the info :)
the software we use Toonboom Harmony for most of our 2D digital software but we do a crash course in Flash over 6 weeks. I think that clip is Harmony though.
Thanks for the fast reply ! I'm so happy I applied it looks super cool I'm just nervous about my portfolio. Would they like a variety of pieces or would they prefer character design and things like that?
Anything that shows an understanding of good solid drawing.
There is a list of set pieces, ie life drawing etc and a drawing test that comes after you have applied but there is a section to show your best work as well.
I have always wanted to be an animator- you know- like a Disney guy- only work for myself. Then I heard one person can hardly do anything alone. I draw and paint. I used to live near Algonquin. My sister went there.
Thanks for showing me that maybe my dream needn't have died at all.
Well the one I used to do was in flash 8. But you could also try it in:
1) Paint +Windows Movie Maker(or any other programmes that can join pictures together to make a animation).I tried this myself but not with Windows Movie maker I used a different software called "Jasc animation shop 3" to connect the pictures. You can also use "Jasc animation shop 3" to draw the animations but I don't do it in there. If you want to be a animator I would suggest you to draw the image on to frames>Connect it.
You could search for more methods and softwares on google. Also the tutorials are in here in youtube. You could check my videos later I will have the animations I made there. Its not a professional animation. I used a mouse not a drawing tablet to do this.
get off your computer and learn how to draw, only if you want to be a professional, you wont understand anything unless you understand how the human body works, how it squashes and stretches and how it moves so focus on that.
if you're serious about animating then the best thing you could do is about 1 hour of life drawing every day .. go to a coffee shop or sit on the street and draw people doing things. keep doing that as much as you can and you'll be in good shape once you're ready to start a serious animation program at college.
My ONLY critique would be to get rid of that horrible Papyrus font in the beginning! Papyrus is a death sentence for ANY art-based portfolio, employers will see that and laugh at you. Go with Helvetica. Just trust me on this.
I hope to get into this college for this program! It's my dream to become an animator!! All the knowledge is priceless and the students are so gifted. <3
It's a pencil test. We use Digicel's Flipbook for that but now use the software from Toonboom. The animation drawings are shot with a digital camera and a line test desk (camera mounted above the drawing that lie flat on the table) but you can also scan drawings into either program.
I was accepted to Algonquin's animation program years ago and ended up choosing Sheridan...big mistake that was. I honestly have to say Algonquin's animators are WAY better than at Sheridan. Holds true today. Sheridan's graduation class of 2004's demo is nothing but unfinished animation and slugs. As a studio guy now, I can honestly say we'll be going to Algonquin first. Pat yourselves on the back, guys. Good job.

i applied there does any one know how many students they take?
Givemeyourpants 2 years ago
We take about 65-70 students per year from about 400+ portfolios.
About 50% graduate third year and 92% of those are working in the industry 6 months after graduation.
And, best for last, 100% employer satisfaction.

The next good step will be to remove pivit from your computer and get a good professional animating software.

oh and my advice applies if you're considering doing 3d animation as well. don't worry about software until you go to a proper school.
