Thinking about starting my own town 50's inspired, cant go back might as well recreate.
There would be no news from the "outside world", no normal people from the outside world... just a closed in little haven with me,my record player, and 200 people that yearn for the same life style.
@LoveBam14 I'm the same age as you and I yearn for an even simpler life than the one shown in this. I wish Iwe lived like the Native Americans did. Completely at one with nature. It's how life's meant to be. I think we're the only species living a life detached from the earth itself, it's bizarre, unhealthy and most importantly, unsustainable.
"I think we're the only species living a life detached from the earth itself" wow, I've never relaized how true that statement is. We all need to just sit back, relax, and appreciate what this life has for us.
.I have been watching this video since the summer of 2008, and still come back regularly. When i think of this song, these are the images that play in my mind
The first time I saw this it was late 2009. I remember I thought it was so beautiful I cried. This song and video helped me get through a lot. And now, here I am today in 2011 looking at the exact same beautiful video<3
these guys are amazing...I mean english is not my mother language and sometimes I dont understand the lyrics however that does not stop me to feel the music, and the message. they can make you feel everything through their song. they just rock.
jesus i'm afraid of the kids with the masks at the beginning. looks scary lol. but awesome video anyway and great song. love the part: "do they collide? i ask and you smile..." makes me feel better and peaceful.
@rainst0rms ugh this is hard to find out, my suggestion would be the Forrest Gump Suite Soundtrack... but i dont know if its the one you meant so check it out :p
@rainst0rms ugh this is hard to find out, my suggestion would be the Forrest Gump Suite Soundtrack... but i dont know if its the one you meant so check it out :p
@rainst0rms The theme to the Takeshi Kitano film 'Dolls', composed by Joe Hisaishi. The film was released in 2002, 1 year prior to this song's release, so who knows: maybe Gibbard had seen the film, & was inspired by it's score....?
wow, the man in there looked like my grandpa. <3 this made me cry in a good way. It is really nice to see this. How, only a few years ago, we actually took in every moment of our lives. Now it doesn't matter who you are we are all living in the fast lane maybe not the rich version, but nonetheless we never seem to have time. I wish we could go back to the 50's. Where simple pleasures really did exist.
Holy mother of God. This song always makes me think of some memory I have. I knew by the description of this video that this would be a tear-jerker and you didn't disappoint. Great work. This is beautiful
I love both this and 'Little vessels', but they make me feel kind of depressed all the same. Sometimes I just enjoy songs that make me feel depressed. Usually then I listen to really upbeat songs to balance things out. It's strange I know.
The video is beyond amazing. It captures what the song is about. I agree with the ones who say that this should be the actual music video. it really should.
What really makes me sad is seeing those children, so young, and knowing that now they're in their sixties and seventies, and some may even have passed away...
@OneTreeHillGal0913 at least you got some good taste in music, i would want to be born more late 50's early 60's maily to be alive around woodstock and just be around for all the great music and hippie stage in the 70's oh well i got to be born in the 90's....the last great years...
I remember the summer I found this song... now when I listen to it, I think back to the days when I'd open up my window to let the in the summer breeze in my room. I'd blast this song out on a continuous loop with my feet resting on my desk... those were some fucking good times.
When we are children we all want to grow up really bad, and people tell them don't wish for life to go by so fast. We should all just stop and enjoy the moment of now and not want to rush through life, why would we do that? We are going to die anyway so I say live life up now and enjoy the little things!
this song reminds me of when i was dating a man i still love very much. i love him and all his imperfections. he was perfectly imperfect to me. he was the most interesting funny person i have ever been with. we would go to ghost towns and grave yards and took drives to the canyon and hiked. we would drive home and he would love to watch me sleep in the passenger seat. one day he just stoped talking to me out of the blue and gave me no reason. im still not over it.
I guess this song really means different things to different people. I'm to tears for a reason that I don't think other people are. A classmate of mine died a year ago tomorrow in a drunk driving accident. Listening to this I can only think of his face. His death marked the first of many following teen drunk driving accidents in my town. We miss him. We miss everybody that has died in these accidents because of reckless driving. RIP Alex Capozza
The first time I watched this I just thought it was cool. Now, the second time I watched this, I actually watched it and took it in, and tears started running down my face for whatever reason. BEAUTIFUL video...
oh my god this is so beautiful and exactly how the song should be portrayed. i wish the actual band could see this, it would make a beautiful music video with a bit of cutscenes of the band singing.

this video is pure awesome. i actually thought this is the official video until i read the comments. those 6 dickheads who gave this a thumbs down just don't appreciate art when they see one. they probably prefer adam lambert videos.
this may sound odd but this song alwasy made me remember my childhood. before my family fell apart. its funny cause i feel like these movies define my childhood. im only a teen but it feels so far away.
This is the cutest thing I've ever seen! The song goes perfectly with the videos. I guess I'm just a big softy but I actually started tearing up, I wish things could be like they were back then..
It's just so beautiful. The videos are a glimpse into a world I had heard about but never seen. I'm glad to read your comments below. I had wondered where these people were now. This really reminds me of my mom. Thank you.
@whiskerwisher The old 8mm home movies used in this video were all filmed by my father in the 1950's. A few years ago I had them professionally transferred (at Home Video Depot) to a digital format I could edit on my computer.
@lonzo625 I had no idea you could do that with old home movies! Do they do it with VHS too? I would love to get our old home videos on a digital format.
My father is almost sixty, and as I get older, I often wonder why he made the choices he did. But I found that when I consider his childhood, I don't feel angry or upset about it anymore. Watching this video I feel like I'm watching him, and that helps me to understand him so much more.
He's in town for Easter now and we've talked more than we have in years. I know its just home movies, but it still helped me reform our relationship. Thank you.
@emakne and what you mean i fell in love this girl while listening to this song in her car watching the stars...almost two years in and my love for her had developed into something so much more and i could seriously see myself spending the rest of my life with her....she left me just over a week ago...im drowning.
:( I'm so sorry, your x-gf sounds like a complete jerk to me. I didn't realize i got so many "likes" on my comment, but it's flattering. I know exactly how you feel, but it will be ok. Time will go on, and trust me eventually you'll feel better. I feel a lot happier now than i did when i wrote that comment months ago. But this song still makes me feel sad.
You need to stop listening to this song bc clearly it reminds you of her. forget her!
@emakne You know you're right, I only have forward to go from here, and I know things will get better it's just hard at first. I hope you get to the point were you can listen to this song and smile an without feeling an ounce of sadness. as for me this song should no longer be heard by me until im completely over her. Thanks alot emakne, that really helped.
I love Death Cab for cutie... and there music is really beautiful but this song put with this made me cry. I miss being a child when things were simple and confusing and wonderful all at once. This video goes amazingly with the song. Very inspiring.
I wish I could get married and have a family. Life's not fair.
