  • I wish I could get married and have a family. Life's not fair.

  • Thinking about starting my own town 50's inspired, cant go back might as well recreate.

There would be no news from the "outside world", no normal people from the outside world... just a closed in little haven with me,my record player, and 200 people that yearn for the same life style.

  • @LoveBam14 I'm the same age as you and I yearn for an even simpler life than the one shown in this. I wish Iwe lived like the Native Americans did. Completely at one with nature. It's how life's meant to be. I think we're the only species living a life detached from the earth itself, it's bizarre, unhealthy and most importantly, unsustainable.

  • @CoN0R115

"I think we're the only species living a life detached from the earth itself" wow, I've never relaized how true that statement is. We all need to just sit back, relax, and appreciate what this life has for us.

    <3

  • Everytime I listen to this song on youtube, I go to this video.

  • omigod. you just have me so much inspiration you have no idea. thank you so much

  • I'm doing a lyrical dance to this :) it inspires me so much.

  • Nice vid

  • When the man holds his boy up like he means the whole world to him, I cry like a little girl!

  • This song is so bittersweet, it makes me want to cry and smile at the same time. Beautiful video, it fits this song perfect.

  • Best song/band to listen too while walking alone up to Mariposa road, in Yosemite.

  • i miss being a kid so much

  • .I have been watching this video since the summer of 2008, and still come back regularly. When i think of this song, these are the images that play in my mind

  • The first time I saw this it was late 2009. I remember I thought it was so beautiful I cried. This song and video helped me get through a lot. And now, here I am today in 2011 looking at the exact same beautiful video<3

  • I think about 50 of those views are from me, this song + video are perfect.

  • Loving this! Beautiful shots.

  • Beautiful song by Death Cab and a very lovely video to match it <3

  • this is the most perfect thing I have ever seen.

  • That reminds me of my childhood at my grandparents..awesome video and awesome song!

  • i get chills every time i think of this song.

  • this video& song is just beautiful <3

  • There is something eerily beautiful about all this. Great job...usually people match songs with dumb videos, or vice versa.

  • My friend and I love Mediaoutletonline for getting f.r..ee s0ngs such as this. You can find it on Yahoo.

  • A perfect video for the song, that's already perfect. And what a lovely 50's family

  • Wow, this video is perfect for this <3

  • this is amazing. i love it.

  • i bet if you spray a kid with a hose today you would be put in jail for the rest of your life

  • I like 50's/60's music, but no way I would want to live in that era. Too much hate fighting and racism for me.

  • still great !

  • I feel such a deep, spiritual connection to this time period. I long to experience a couple years during this time. It's perfect.

  • these guys are amazing...I mean english is not my mother language and sometimes I dont understand the lyrics however that does not stop me to feel the music, and the message. they can make you feel everything through their song. they just rock.

  • how old are these videos?

  • Only just come across this song, so very nice:). It reminds me alot of dave mathews - bartender. if you havent heard of it look it up everyone:)

  • Dont you find it crazy, how all of us wish we could live back in these days.

We all long for the simpleness, no ipods, no computers, no crazy wild nights,

    just simpleness.

I'm only 17, and I'd trade any day for these days

  • @LoveBam14 i agree with everything u said besides "no crazy wild nights" thats what makes life worth living in my opinion haha

  • I wish i was born in the 60's or 70's - It was always so Beautiful in this time :)

  • this made me cry. it is so beautiful

  • This is so beautiful. Thank you for making this, fantastic work.

  • i thought it was the official one, nice work!

  • The little girl in the yellow scares me...

  • jesus i'm afraid of the kids with the masks at the beginning. looks scary lol. but awesome video anyway and great song. love the part: "do they collide? i ask and you smile..." makes me feel better and peaceful.

  • *****the beginning part of this song with the piano reminds me of a score from a movie, does anyone know what movie this is from?!?!? *****

  • @rainst0rms ugh this is hard to find out, my suggestion would be the Forrest Gump Suite Soundtrack... but i dont know if its the one you meant so check it out :p

  • @rainst0rms The theme to the Takeshi Kitano film 'Dolls', composed by Joe Hisaishi. The film was released in 2002, 1 year prior to this song's release, so who knows: maybe Gibbard had seen the film, & was inspired by it's score....?

  • @RedBryn I figured it out. It was from The Social Network. The song I was talking about

  • @rainst0rms No worries, mate. Check out the Joe Hisaishi tune 'Feel', it's uncannilly similar.

  • wow, the man in there looked like my grandpa. <3 this made me cry in a good way. It is really nice to see this. How, only a few years ago, we actually took in every moment of our lives. Now it doesn't matter who you are we are all living in the fast lane maybe not the rich version, but nonetheless we never seem to have time. I wish we could go back to the 50's. Where simple pleasures really did exist.

  • This is when mothers were mothers... THANKS ALOT FEMINISM!

  • Amazing!!

I bet the band would love this.

  • Holy mother of God. This song always makes me think of some memory I have. I knew by the description of this video that this would be a tear-jerker and you didn't disappoint. Great work. This is beautiful

  • this is perfect.

  • it made me cry it brung back alot of my memories..of my childhood or when i was younger..i miss my parents and this song helpsx

  • How could anyone dislike this?...

  • This is just so beautiful...

  • 2:48 Hitler's softer side

  • I love both this and 'Little vessels', but they make me feel kind of depressed all the same. Sometimes I just enjoy songs that make me feel depressed. Usually then I listen to really upbeat songs to balance things out. It's strange I know.

  • @CoN0R115 not strange at all.

  • i'll be your guide. <3

  • The video is beyond amazing. It captures what the song is about. I agree with the ones who say that this should be the actual music video. it really should.

  • This is so beautiful. I wish this were the real video, as well. It's completely perfect.

  • The most incredible, real American, or Canadian eperience filmed on 8 mm

  • @MrLoomboy canada is part of america

  • @loosekarrott Isn't that like saying Scotland is part of England??

  • Wow.. This was a beautiful video, good job. Made me cry a little.

  • What really makes me sad is seeing those children, so young, and knowing that now they're in their sixties and seventies, and some may even have passed away...

  • yeah..this video just gives me this incredible feeling of awe :)

  • Beautiful. In every way.

  • i wish i was born in the 50's..

  • @welcometoourlife you must be white...for a black person I dont

  • @OneTreeHillGal0913 at least you got some good taste in music, i would want to be born more late 50's early 60's maily to be alive around woodstock and just be around for all the great music and hippie stage in the 70's oh well i got to be born in the 90's....the last great years...

  • @welcometoourlife i wish it too :C

  • @welcometoourlife yeah that would me a sight

  • @welcometoourlife try to imagine, you once lived in the 2070s and your greatest wish was to live in the early 21th century ;)

  • @welcometoourlife but then you would have to wait 55+ years before you could hear this awesome song!... D:

  • This is a beautiful video man. Made me get goose bumps in a good way for some reason

  • What a lovely video.

  • great job with the video :)

  • This almost makes me cry video fits perfectly.

  • I remember the summer I found this song... now when I listen to it, I think back to the days when I'd open up my window to let the in the summer breeze in my room. I'd blast this song out on a continuous loop with my feet resting on my desk... those were some fucking good times.

  • This song gives me the craziest chills ever!!! EVERYTIME!!! I ball my eyes out!!! EVERYTIME!!! sooo good and passionate!!

  • An 8mm camera is like... fish eye.

  • This is beautiful. The video, the song, everything. Thank you for this.

  • I fucking love this.

  • this is one of the few songs that had really touch me deep inside, the melody, vocals and lyrics are just so powerful, is impossible not to cry.

  • 1954 seemed like good times watching this

  • Absolutely beautiful! I could see this playing in a gallery.

  • DCfC always make beautiful songs. Not to sound like a pussy since i'm a male cause it takes balls to say that ;)

  • I love this song so much, I do think of the social network everytime I hear the first part now

  • I remember watching this video when it only had 200 views and how much it made me cry..

    Beautiful song and Video..

  • @MurderCityGirl I remember watching this video when it only had 135.000 views. Now it has millions of views and it is 2030. It makes me laugh.

Cause you know what? The future brings laughter.

  • This.Is.Amazing.

  • When we are children we all want to grow up really bad, and people tell them don't wish for life to go by so fast. We should all just stop and enjoy the moment of now and not want to rush through life, why would we do that? We are going to die anyway so I say live life up now and enjoy the little things!

  • The combination of the videos and this song is the definition of beauty.

  • they are awesome :D

  • that was an amazing video

  • just beautiful....almost brings tears to my eyes thinking of childhood.

    what an amazing time

  • this song reminds me of when i was dating a man i still love very much. i love him and all his imperfections. he was perfectly imperfect to me. he was the most interesting funny person i have ever been with. we would go to ghost towns and grave yards and took drives to the canyon and hiked. we would drive home and he would love to watch me sleep in the passenger seat. one day he just stoped talking to me out of the blue and gave me no reason. im still not over it.

  • @TashaTraumatizer That's so cute, yet so sad. :( I feel for you, I hope everything turns out for you in the end!

  • this made me cry. i re-watched it so many times. really good job.

  • this video is amazing, excellent job! :)

  • 2:11 is what made me start crying.

    :/

  • I guess this song really means different things to different people. I'm to tears for a reason that I don't think other people are. A classmate of mine died a year ago tomorrow in a drunk driving accident. Listening to this I can only think of his face. His death marked the first of many following teen drunk driving accidents in my town. We miss him. We miss everybody that has died in these accidents because of reckless driving. RIP Alex Capozza

  • who else is crying and is a guy? i can't be the only one

  • @SilentEcho33 i am.

  • @SilentEcho33 me2.

  • beautiful. no other word can envelope everything u did for this song in this video.

  • this seriously brought me to tears. thank you.

  • Honestly bloody awesome :) is this you as a child? X

  • I love this.

  • this video is perfect. every time i hear this song i always reflect on the past. remembering the good days.

  • The first time I watched this I just thought it was cool. Now, the second time I watched this, I actually watched it and took it in, and tears started running down my face for whatever reason. BEAUTIFUL video...

  • Remember when you were a kid... And had no worries whats so ever? :(

  • amazing song. and you did a good job with the video. :) song makes me cry though.

  • oh my god this is so beautiful and exactly how the song should be portrayed. i wish the actual band could see this, it would make a beautiful music video with a bit of cutscenes of the band singing.

  • Out of the thousands of videos I have viewed on youtube, this is by far the best. amazing

  • ...this is simply the most emotional video I have ever seen...I cried for the whole thing!! It's so happy that it just spills tears of joy all over! Amazing job!! :)

  • it's amazing how little kids look so similar to a lot now .. even after 50 years...

but it's sad because now they only look the same, not act the same......

kids are growing up so fast now.....

  • this video is pure awesome. i actually thought this is the official video until i read the comments. those 6 dickheads who gave this a thumbs down just don't appreciate art when they see one. they probably prefer adam lambert videos.

  • this may sound odd but this song alwasy made me remember my childhood. before my family fell apart. its funny cause i feel like these movies define my childhood. im only a teen but it feels so far away.

  • This is the cutest thing I've ever seen! The song goes perfectly with the videos. I guess I'm just a big softy but I actually started tearing up, I wish things could be like they were back then..

  • amazing. bravo!

  • i love this band with all my heart. trhis bands my escence of me. but at 2:53 i swear to god the dude looks like hitler!!!

  • It's just so beautiful. The videos are a glimpse into a world I had heard about but never seen. I'm glad to read your comments below. I had wondered where these people were now. This really reminds me of my mom. Thank you.

  • sooo sad

  • this reminds me of my childhood...

  • This is soooo creeptastic in the beginning

    lovely song though

  • fourteen years now...forget her...oh sure, we can do that real easy...when i am on the under side of the lawn possibly

  • For all time.

  • how old are you?

  • i wish i had a friend i could share my feelings with, without a worrie

  • this is an amazing video. good job. (: where do you find old footage like this and how do you transfer it to the computer?

  • @whiskerwisher The old 8mm home movies used in this video were all filmed by my father in the 1950's. A few years ago I had them professionally transferred (at Home Video Depot) to a digital format I could edit on my computer.

  • @lonzo625 I had no idea you could do that with old home movies! Do they do it with VHS too? I would love to get our old home videos on a digital format.

  • @lonzo625 I am completely envious.

  • @lonzo625 Well, great job. It truly fits in perfectly with the song. Not to mention that it is awesome the fact that you had film taken from the 50s.

  • I have to say that this video goes very well with the music, enough so that when I hear it independently I picture your 8mm footage. Kudos.

  • My father is almost sixty, and as I get older, I often wonder why he made the choices he did. But I found that when I consider his childhood, I don't feel angry or upset about it anymore. Watching this video I feel like I'm watching him, and that helps me to understand him so much more.

He's in town for Easter now and we've talked more than we have in years. I know its just home movies, but it still helped me reform our relationship. Thank you.

  • this is AMAZING! good work!

  • cries

  • love it

  • echt wunderbar befreiend (:

  • With my feet on the dash, the world doesnt matter.

  • @CuntFaaace you said it all cunt face lol.

  • @serenityMMM LOL thanks.

  • This is a very beautiful song.

  • You are driving me home...

  • Who are these people? They seem perfect.

  • beautiful melody ,beautiful lyrics!

  • this song made me cry so many times because it reminds me of someone i know. the melody of the music and his voice just really get to you.

i wish death cab for cutie made more slow songs like this one.

  • @emakne and what you mean i fell in love this girl while listening to this song in her car watching the stars...almost two years in and my love for her had developed into something so much more and i could seriously see myself spending the rest of my life with her....she left me just over a week ago...im drowning.

  • @Whodatfan89

:( I'm so sorry, your x-gf sounds like a complete jerk to me. I didn't realize i got so many "likes" on my comment, but it's flattering. I know exactly how you feel, but it will be ok. Time will go on, and trust me eventually you'll feel better. I feel a lot happier now than i did when i wrote that comment months ago. But this song still makes me feel sad.

You need to stop listening to this song bc clearly it reminds you of her. forget her!

  • @emakne You know you're right, I only have forward to go from here, and I know things will get better it's just hard at first. I hope you get to the point were you can listen to this song and smile an without feeling an ounce of sadness. as for me this song should no longer be heard by me until im completely over her. Thanks alot emakne, that really helped.

  • @emakne I agree

  • I will never grow tired of this video, and this amazing song

    Thank you for the memories

  • precious.. :) <3

  • Both this song and video are extremely hanuting.

  • the kitty pool that kid was jumping in had like barely any water in it

  • You need direction, and i'll be the guide.

    So mellow and great lyrics

  • the one song in my life that Always gets to me .

  • I love Death Cab for cutie... and there music is really beautiful but this song put with this made me cry. I miss being a child when things were simple and confusing and wonderful all at once. This video goes amazingly with the song. Very inspiring.
