Why isn't the pickle ornament hidden? It's normally hidden deep in the tree and the first child to find it either gets an extra present or gets to open one of their presents first.
I think it is ok to tell us what you like in tree decorating....but I don't think you should present this as 'RULES' because everyone is allowed to have their own style.
What do you mean, "Don't use a mish-mash" of ornaments on your tree? That sure would make for a boring Christmas tree, IMO. Part of the reason I love my Christmas tree, is all of the ornaments that my family collected throughout the years. All those memories come pouring back to us, every year we see these "mish-mash" ornaments. I, for one, think the mish-mash makes for a much more interesting tree, and yes, they can be just as beautiful (even more so) than a themed tree.
For a Low Cost green friendly tree I had used office paper to decorate my tree. You can make origami's such as roses, stars, spears, snow flakes, and chain garland. Just google origami for how to! To infuse color in the tree I made Christmas Tabs. I googled vintage Christmas images, print them out, glue them on cardboard, cut out to the shape of the figures and finished with fabric ribbon. The final finished would be the popcorn garland that is mixed with dryed cranberries for interest.
lame! at my house we go get 1-3 new ornaments every year to add to our tree and choose only the most beautiful of the bunch at an antique shop in any place we visit
"Themed" trees are rigid and boring, and usually the product of the anal-retentive.
I prefer to use lots of individual ornaments for a more "freestyle" effect. That way, no matter what part of the tree you see, there's always something unique to enjoy.
i have alot of ornaments on my tree, each year i buy a few more to update.i go by my favorite colors what i like .if it were a themed tree then id miss out on useing my same ornaments that are favorties year after years.you can have a main christmas tree with everythign on it.stikcing to a certain color and classic style.then you can aslo have another tree can be a smaller one and call that a theme tree.
