  • These days, days, days run away like horses over the hill...

  • Zooropa was a difficult album for me. It defines a period in time when my son was born with spina bifida and subsequently succumbed to hydrocephalus a mere 28 days later. It was the album we had on the car stereo to avoid normal songs becoming tainted with sadness... Dirty Day sums it all up in one song.

  • @paulcooke100 may your son rest in peace.

  • ..if you need someone to blame throw a rock in the air you'll hit someone guilty..

  • U2 did nothing but change with the times, I loved all of their stuff, only one I dont know by heart is How to disantle, but this music, carried me through the suck ass 90's, and God bless these guys!

  • A classic and timeless sounding rock song. Not too polished and sanitized like newer stuff. Very cool. Can they return to doing stuff like this again? It seems unlikely. All bands have peaks and valleys but U2 peaked here and it's been a slow and steady decline since then with a few moments of memorable stuff but way too polished. I think they need to drink more or something.

  • Troppi ricordi.. troppi pomeriggi estivi dell'adolescenza.. :_(

  • Troppi ricordi.. troppi pomeriggi estivi dell'adolescenza.. :_(

  • I was 15 wen i first heard this song and its true ! days run away like horses over the hills..!

  • The ode that encompasses Bukowski's ethos and marrow more than any other. Well done.

  • "The days, days, days run away like horses over the hill" -- an observation only slightly less poignant than "ask not for whom the bell tolls: it tolls for thee" - or maybe more so -

  • One of the best lines ever- You can't even remember

    What I'm trying to forget

  • music for hangovers, Bukowsky homage, cheers, i'll take another one

  • Zooropa = Masterpiece

  • " a word that's never done, father to son.."

PERFECT LYRICS, MUSIC, BAND .. AND ALL THAT COMES WITH IT..

  • completely underrated song...i could listen to this all day as i stare out my window on a dirty day~

  • Great song - Underrated album. The last really good U2 album in fact.

  • These days, days, days run away like horses over the hill...

  • I like this song.

  • another "underrated" classic, fuck these boys r good, .

  • I'm glad all of U2's great albums were recorded before the Loudness Wars mess. They'll always be listenable.

  • Dirty Day - given an honourable nod in the new Spiderman musical song 'Boy falls from the Sky'. Welcome back Zooropa, the new song's lyrics even give a esosteric bow to The Wanderer.

  • Chrales Bukowski. Fucking; genius.

  • Charles Bukowski. Fucking; genius.

  • I usually ignore fans who rubbish U2's newest work because they are ppl who don't keep an open mind in music.

  • @5oulPower Its true that U2 was at their best in the 80's and 90's and that nothing can top what they did then, but their new stuff, if u listen to, is actually pretty good.

  • @PartyMarty523 yeah. I really enjoyed NLOTH. Also, i used to hate Atomic Bomb... But after 2 yrs with that album, I finally grew into it. Now I think Atomic Bomb is one of their best! It's a LATEEEE grower. (I know some ppl here are gonna trash me for HTDAAB but I doubt anyone else tried as hard as me to grow into it despite the overwhelming boredom at first.) I've also always thought ATYCLB was their best album to date. But i keep my mind open so I'm open to every direction they turn to. :-)

  • @5oulPower If you need to force yourself to listen to something then maybe it only means you got used to it. It doesn't necessarily mean the album is good.

  • @maxsocial okay, yes i did force myself to listen to something. BUT no I didnt just get used to it. I only do that to the albums I've identified as late growers (warning: musical and album-collecting experience required!). Once I've identified the growers from the hands down plain bad albums, I listen to it over and over because with each consecutive session, I uncover small details, small but beautiful, in the songs that i haveen't noticed before. >>>>>>

  • @maxsocial >>>>>> Repeat many times, and eventually you will get the whole picture. And what seems like a bad album at first is now a damn fine album. Some albums take shorter than most to grow into, some take longer...

This is not called forced listening. It is called growing into an already identified grower.

  • @5oulPower I have every U2 album and I'm always happy to play HTDAAB, it's stunning even if it tails off at the end. I loved it the day it came out and love it now. I've found No Line more difficult to get into as a complete album but it has more great songs than OK songs.

  • @KangoTV I also have every U2 album and though it wasn't immediately stunning like it was for you, I agree now it is a masterpiece. And about No Line... I dunno... Maybe diff people have diff tastes but HTDAAB was more difficult for me. But yes, I also agree No Line is great. Hell... I actually like ALL U2 albums!

  • Dirty Day... Dirty Day

    ...

  • This track makes the dirtiest day look so hopefull

  • Ahh the classic G A C D riff used in so many songs to great effect, Green Days' "Prosthetic Head" is another example of this classic chord sequence......

  • @metalmickey07 Bone Machine by the pixies another ;)

  • Bono just want to leave a better place for the most poor people, and a more worthy life for mankind.

  • Bono just want to leave a better place for unwealth people and a more worthy life. Ist an effort that not many "stars" do.

  • Amazing song. Amazing album.

  • <--guilty, i love this song too much

  • 1993 besten!

  • Great song, best artist (of course, Bukowski)

  • to hell if bukowski didnt like Bono or U2, and it annoys me when people call people sell outs or part of the establishment, Bono is clever because he understands that if your going to change the world and get rid of poverty, you have to play the game.Bukowski is just jealous of his success and like most pretentious 'artists' always begrudges the very successful.I bet Bukowski secretly wishes he was Bono.

  • @thefisherking92 bukowski gave a damn about success, which is why he was able to write honest poetry, and be honest with all people equally, which is why he can tell bono to his face what he thinks about him, and which is why he can go to a party at bono's house and dance and grope his mom. without apology. not caring about rockstar status or acting differently with people who can potentially make him rich and famous.

  • @killphil1986 well good for him! but i think he forgets that Bono, for all his rockstar persona, is honest in his emotions and writing, i think its a bit silly not liking things, simply because there part of the establishment, if some mogul wrote a touching, emotional, thought provoking exciting and profound besteller id buy it, i dont think the outlet, platform or creator really affects it whatsoever, and thus i think that Bonos personality or lifestyle as a rockstar shouldnt affect his music.

  • @thefisherking92

I agree totally. Hank was jealous and insecure and not only for Bono.

  • this and pop were fuckin great albums

  • Great song! Too bad they can't write good music any more. Now they release garbage like Sexy Boots! What a piece of sh#t

  • Hey go easy, I actually think Get On Your Boots is a really good song, its just its their last few albums that made a catastrophe of things, Pop was good but not that good - I hope the band finish it someday.

Had No Line on the Horizon come out after Zoopropa, I think more people would get it.

  • EASY for those who have never done anything for the world to call the greats of our time hasbeens you are a punk to the lowest of

  • what the fuck are you talking about. moment of surrender is a brilliant song on that last record.

  • @kellykinsel nah man. Cedars of Lebanon is one of the best songs U2 ever recorded. Same goes for White as Snow and Breath, each of which comes from No Line on the Horizon, their newest album

  • @kellykinsel A lot of people said zooropa was shit when it came out too. I think you'll find that No line on the horizon will grow in appreciation over time. They are just way ahead of times musically.

  • @k2kopu I feel exactly the same. U2 didn't make it this far not knowing what they're doing.lol. Songs like "No Line On The Horizon", "Magnificent", "Get On Your Boots", and "Breathe" will become legends like that of those from Achtung Baby and Zooropa one day....

  • @k2kopu Evidently you are wrong and i am right. Steve Lillywhite said NLOTH was garbage and U2 are now admitting it is crap. They have 3 good songs on it. Moment of Surrender, Fez Being Born, and maybe unkown caller. But these 3 songs they have not promoted. the problem with U2 is they don;t even know what their good songs are anymore. They keep play crap like Elevation Boots when they have much better songs like When I look At the World, kite...

  • @kellykinsellives - HEY!!! It's all subjective. I personally liked "No Line On the Horizon", I however disliked "Get On Your Boots". "Zooropa" is far superior of an album (although it's difficult to compare because they're entirely different), and I think "Dirty Day" is arguably the best song off the album.

  • @k2kopu Personally I think every single one of their albums is amazing for it's own bits. This one is a great compliment to Achtung Baby, not necessarily meant to be an album in it's own right, just more songs from that time and place. No Line is actually my second favorite U2 album, coming in after Achtung and closely followed by Pop. These guys are always creative, and I will follow any road they lead me down.

  • @Ozaze3 me too!

  • @k2kopu pop too pushed boundaries, but you are right....way ahead of their time!5 people, why listen?

  • @kellykinsel

If somothing is different it doesn't mean is not good! times change, people change, public change. so music HAS to change.

    :-) you should listen better!

  • @kellykinsel Funny, I totally agree (using different wording :D)! Somehow, since Discoteque (or little earlier?) they lost the real U2 touch. My 2c.

  • Comment removed

  • @lm035 you said:"what is the real U2 touch, because i'm sure songs like beautiful day, city f blinding lights, magnificent r examples of songs that are better than the shit most other bands have released in the last decade! Fuck I read comments by people that astound me U2 r still the best band in the world, I think it's incredible that they can change their sound, there image, direction etc. they've created some masterpieces since 2000, I could listen to there last 3 albums straight.brilliance

  • @john3verse5 well said,and i agree!

  • Sorry, it took me very long to reply, but I did want to clarify.

Yes there is lots of trash coming out nowadays, but I just see U2 didn continue their strain of brilliance in recent releases, with few exceptions, like those you mentioned.

Overall feeling of the songs is much like '13 in a dozen'. The recent releases show me no distinguishable excellence, but are just 'ok' or average.

    Just my humble observation :)

  • @kellykinsel though i really think the same about the last part of your sentence, i must disagree with the first part. i thought 'all that you cant leave behind' was a pretty f u cki n' good album, and 'how to dismantle an atomic bomb' was not as cool as ATYCLBehind, but really decent at the least. of course, their best days were from '87 'til '97 (going through different stages in their sound of course)

  • "Hank says

    The days, days, days

Run away like horses over the hill"

    U2 & BUKOWSKI forever ...

  • bukowski didnt like u2, he hated bono

  • You got it all wrong my dear friend ... watch the documentary : "BORN INTO THIS" ... and you'll hopefully figure this out :)

  • i know, ive seen it, but Bukowski still hated bono, this is what he said about him: he's a "millionaire rock-star, a part of the establishment regardless of what he says".

i'm sorry friend, bono is a completely transparent celebrity who has people spend hours on his hair- bukowski just exposed him for what he is.

  • @killphil1986

No! Bono maybe very rich, but many of the money that is paid for concerts, is given for the aid in Africa. Many concerts are given for this aid. And he maybe a celebrity, but then the best celebrity!

  • @elisdewaard1 george bush also gave money to africa.

  • @killphil1986

Bukowski hated almost everybody. Bono is talented and earned a lot from it. Another reason why Hank hated him.

  • if u listen to the words there brilliant and there all true such as "you can hold on to somthing so tight u've already lost it" basically saying if you buy somthing so precious to you you dont use it such as a fast car you don't want to crash you end up driving slow so basically you've lost what it was built for..

  • This song transports me to the 90´s

    What a masterpiece...I miss this U2 :(

    anyway U2 FOREVER!!!

  • I miss the 90s !!! "You don't realise what you've got until you've lost it" The 2000s have been absolute shit!! I hope the next decade is gonna be kick ass, and make up for this pathetic recession!! U2 have still got what it takes to do what they used to d0 - ITS TIME FOR A MIDLIFE CRISIS!!! HAHAHAHAH (Mr Machpesto evil laugh)

  • Sucio, maldito y hermoso día.

  • I remember many years back I actually made someone a U2 fan because of this album! They heard of the "main" U2 songs but when I told them to listen to Zooropa.. she went nuts! She would listen to the whole album everyday! Atleast I know I did good :o)

  • a beautiful album, lemon the best, and live from zoo tv ...wow

  • This song is a homage to Charles Bukowsky

  • god I love this song, it's so dark and mysterious and ..well dirty. You could run your finger down it, and it would leave a black mark on the end of it

  • Compare and contrast, this and Prosthetic Head by Green Day........

  • yeah I know, very similar

  • Yeah, they'r similar...

  • greatest band ever

  • great song, one of my favourites!!

  • This song is even better live.

  • love the guitar bit..oh yes !

  • Wow, not heard this in ages. Love it

  • Astonishing...

  • the exit of zooropa, perhaps?

  • the remix on the best of is twice as good as this. it totally changes the song.

  • remixes suck.

  • Not this one. He's right. Find the "Bitter Kiss" remix.

  • I can not stop listening to this song, love it! 5/5

  • "You can't even remember what I'm trying to forget" How many times have I wanted to say that.

  • Pixies did it before them ala BONE MACHINE ;)

  • I love the line "I had a starring role, I was the bad guy who walked out".

  • Another great, almost Apocalyptic song from that period. That background guitar chord is chilling, like impending doom lurking.

  • or maybe its not a guitar chord but a single held note on a synth, whatever it is, I love it and this album.

  • Best song on U2's best album. I love the abstract and eerie nature of it and how it slowly builds to a sensational end. Beautiful music.

  • awesome.
