Ok so First off, Krishna Das is AWESOME... Since i was a kid, for some odd reason i've always been attracted to Krishna and the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra, I remember dreaming of Prabhupada, before I even read any of his books. I've been to the temple many many times, but I am so tangled in material existence that sometime i feel helpless... Prabhupada Said " Chant and be happy" So i still do it. it works. It's also said that Krishna is the creator of Atheism &Godlessness.. stuff to think about.
@teed666 We are ALL tangled in material existance and feel helpless and frustrated and confused (well...I guess I can only really speak for MYSELF! :) ). I think that's why practice is so important. Japa and offerings and Kirtan (or whatever one's practices are) are the platforms that will carry us when everything else is swirling--and the only way that I see to try to tame the mind (and the emotions!) which in my case is constantly flying all over the place.
@teed666 I really DO believe that God in His Mercy has made it so that the very simplest and most attractive practices WILL safely carry us to Him. Even in the darkest moments if we can call out the Holy Names--whichever Ones we can bring to our minds (and practice will make it easiest for us to do so reliably)--He will be with us. Knowing this soothes my heart. Of course, I still struggle to make time for my personal practices. I think that's the on-going struggle of material life.
@teed666 I too, was attracted to Krishna and Bhaktivedanta Swami as a young girl--even as I was being raised in, and practicing, another path. I think it is no accident to be born with an inherent attraction. Someone recently said to me that we are innately attracted to certain things for REASON--and that those attractions will point us to where we need to go. That resonated with me. And Bhakti Yoga is certainly a love-ly thing to be attracted to!

It shifts me pretty quickly--and then I wonder "why haven't I been doing this all along?!". If it feels good (in a REAL way) DO it! Even if you fall dwon again, it still benefits you. @savitrichamar The Gita does not refer to caste here. Krishna was speaking about consciousness. A Bhramin is not a caste but someone that is in pursuit of Bhram or God. Their purpose in life is to attain enlightenment and knowledge about God. A Sutra is one of lower consciousness that does not believe in God orhas low frequency tendencies.

If u read books published by ISKON, a Vaishnavite group, u will find that they belive that only Krishna is to be worshiped as God & all other Gods in Hinduism, Islam & Christianity r merely demigods not worthy of worship. If u r interested to know about Hinduism, then u mus divert ur search to Shaktism which is better than Vaishnavism.

@strangerlover11 U know that Tamil, though a Dravidian language, is highly influenced by Sanskrit, the language which was bought by Central Asian Aryans, now the prominant race in India. Sanskrit & all the European languages, including those spoken in Balkan region, belong to a group called Indo-European languages. If I'am not wrong, Hebrew & Aramaic languages too belong to this particular group. By the way, Middle-East & India have trade relationships since Middle ages.

Shaktism is based on the worship of Devi, the Mother Goddess & Shiva's consort, text is Devi Mahatmyah.

Ok so First off, Krishna Das is AWESOME... Since i was a kid, for some odd reason i've always been attracted to Krishna and the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra, I remember dreaming of Prabhupada, before I even read any of his books. I've been to the temple many many times, but I am so tangled in material existence that sometime i feel helpless... Prabhupada Said " Chant and be happy" So i still do it. it works. It's also said that Krishna is the creator of Atheism &Godlessness.. stuff to think about.

@teed666 We are ALL tangled in material existance and feel helpless and frustrated and confused (well...I guess I can only really speak for MYSELF! :) ). I think that's why practice is so important. Japa and offerings and Kirtan (or whatever one's practices are) are the platforms that will carry us when everything else is swirling--and the only way that I see to try to tame the mind (and the emotions!) which in my case is constantly flying all over the place.

@teed666 I really DO believe that God in His Mercy has made it so that the very simplest and most attractive practices WILL safely carry us to Him. Even in the darkest moments if we can call out the Holy Names--whichever Ones we can bring to our minds (and practice will make it easiest for us to do so reliably)--He will be with us. Knowing this soothes my heart. Of course, I still struggle to make time for my personal practices. I think that's the on-going struggle of material life.

I think it is no accident to be born with an inherent attraction. Someone recently said to me that we are innately attracted to certain things for REASON--and that those attractions will point us to where we need to go. That resonated with me. And Bhakti Yoga is certainly a love-ly thing to be attracted to!

It shifts me pretty quickly--and then I wonder "why haven't I been doing this all along?!". If it feels good (in a REAL way) DO it! Even if you fall dwon again, it still benefits you. @savitrichamar The Gita does not refer to caste here. Krishna was speaking about consciousness. A Bhramin is not a caste but someone that is in pursuit of Bhram or God. Their purpose in life is to attain enlightenment and knowledge about God. A Sutra is one of lower consciousness that does not believe in God orhas low frequency tendencies.

Chant the Holy Names of God and desire to serve Him. You don't need religion, which can separate us from each other. You don't need rituals to beg some material gain from God. Just pray for Him to use you in His service. This is bhakti. Anyone, regardless of religious identity, can chant His names and receive His love. Pure happiness will come only from the Lord. If u read books published by ISKON, a Vaishnavite group, u will find that they belive that only Krishna is to be worshiped as God & all other Gods in Hinduism, Islam & Christianity r merely demigods not worthy of worship. If u r interested to know about Hinduism, then u mus divert ur search to Shaktism which is better than Vaishnavism.

@strangerlover11 U will be surprised to know that there is a missing link between Islam & Shaktism. I read it somewhere that Arabic word "Allah" is derived from Tamil word "Akka" meaning a Goddess. Shaktism itself is based on the worship of Holy Mother who as Nirguna Parbrahma is known as Adi Para Shakti in Sanskrit & Akka in Tamil. We Shaktas belive that God is Mother who menifests herself as female (Prakriti) as well as male (Purusha)

Sanskrit & all the European languages, including those spoken in Balkan region, belong to a group called Indo-European languages. If I'am not wrong, Hebrew & Aramaic languages too belong to this particular group. By the way, Middle-East & India have trade relationships since Middle ages.

These three sects personify God as three different dieties & have three different core texts. Shaivism is based on worship of Shiva, the Hindu God of regenaration, text is Shiva Maha Puran. Shaktism is based on the worship of Devi, the Mother Goddess & Shiva's consort, text is Devi Mahatmyah.
