seems like the real problem here is infestation of animals how about sealing up your crawl space ,it is not that hard to do or do what I did and let a couple cats hunt in there for a day..or night vision goggles and a pellet gun fun and efficient...

i think this video indicates a problem with animals rather than a problem with flex duct .... i increased the temperature coming out of my registers by 10-15 degrees using insulated duct work i changed everything over 5 years ago and cut my heating bill by a good percentage & have had no problems what so ever ,, oh i dont allow animals in my cellar and im sure that makes a differance
I'm a sheet metal worker myself, and flex duct is mostly good for commercial use, although it can be used for residential. you should not use any longer the 5 feet from the end of the pipe to your heat register, grill etc. solid duct will make the world of difference, since there is way less air restriction then flex pipe. Hope this helps.
Most alll of my house is flex duct from the supply. I have some air flow problems at the register, and trouble with general heating in my house. Its 2500 square feet. Would there be a noticeable difference if I ran solid duct rather than flex?
Keeping critters out is a very important concept. Many people do not realize why this is necessary or what can happen to a house if animals are able to move in. While most people understand they don't want to visit their crawlspaces, a few breaks in the duct system will let them breath the air in there, along with whatever else there may be.
Flex duct is cheap and easy to install and efficient because its insulated.
what I did to mine to prevent critters and rodents, I use chicken wires to hold it up in place and also act as a protection to prevents critters and prevent kinks and saved me bracket/ties and it looks neat. cost me only $50 for chicken wires for a total of 90'
Flex ducting is not efficient, it is cheap to install. It however takes more energy than steel pipe as 1 foot of flex even properly installed has twice the flow restriction of 2 feet of steel pipe.
the only rat i see is the one holding the video camera

thats not bad ductwork...flex duct should not be used under a house..ever, cuz of critters..and the disconnected ducts are just a crappy install

I did, I was there. Rats Raccoons and nasty unpleasantries were all found in the crawlspace thanks to the flex duct.
The animals used the ductwork as a pipeline into the pantry for the mega score!

Moral of the story. Keep the critters out of your crawlspace and attic.

We use a SMART Flow Elbow or FlexRight flex duct brace to form 90 degree elbows to meet Energy Star flex duct installation guidelines.
