thanks for this review, I was looking for a new phone for t-mobile and your video definitely helped me decide to go with the G2. My hinge on it is pretty loose too, if I tilt it upside down the keyboard will slide out. thanks again man.
@PoincianaRollin it slides awesome. real natural. although, the hinges on the device are not that strong. so if u like texting while u lay on your back with the phone in the air, the screen will naturally slide down aswell.

I tried it at the T-Mobile store. The hinges are too loose. If your texting while laying down, then it will collapse on you. If this gets fixed, then I will get it. Otherwise, what is the next great phone coming up on T-Mobile?
Just hours after going on sale, we are hearing reports that the T-Mobile G2, the company’s new flagship handset has many problems
Problems include handsets which are shipping with loose hinges, causing the screen to hang slightly when holding it upside down. Worst yet, some users are claiming that their G2 is shipping with HALF the promised internal storage. Only shipping with 4GB is bad enough, but if its locked to 2GB of internal memory. Typical t-mobile quality control.
@WickedTopMan 2gigs are prolly already allocated to the OS... and not everyone is reporting that issue... who do you work for Nokia? the hinge issue isn't really an issue unless your flinging your phone around like some moronic blonde...

The spring for the hinge is very durable u actually have to give it a good slide in order for it to do so. So in saying that unless ur playing with urself in ur pocket and your pocket is huge then no it won't open in your pocket.
You said "um" so many times in the first 40 seconds that I couldn't continue to watch it. Read more books and increase your vocabulary so that in future videos you sound more eloquent, making these things easier to view.
i like what you did by running those Benchmarks. I get this phone on Sunday because my local Radio Shack has it and their holding it for me. My gosh I can't wait.
Now that you have had the phone and been using it, what is the battery life like? I just took back the epic (lasted about 5 hours on a charge) and am going to get the G2 this Sunday if the battery life is decent.
I'm mostly wondering about the tethering aspect of the phone. It sounds like Tmobile has tampered with it so that it can't tether to computers. If you could give a good yes or no on that I would appreciate it
G2 does look awesome but I'll still choose the Epic any day over it. Epic has better screen (Super Amoled), better processor, better video card, better keyboard, front camera. Still the G2 is IMO now the best phone for T-Mobile.
greetings! I have a tiny question concerning the camera and video recording: when recording video, does it auto focus as you move closer to objects? If it doesn't do you have the option to focus? Thanks for your time!
Too many comments for me to sort through, but has anyone asked about the hspa+ speeds? I am very interested in seeing a video of someone testing the network's speed via the speedtest app as opposed to the site. The app tends to be a bit more realistic.
I just did all those tests on my evo and my fps was 28.6 at the highest, how is it that the g2 is that much better as far as fps? and ran the quadrant, it was 1,051, Linpak was 30.6 mflops, g2 is pretty impressive as far as numbers considering its 800 mgz
first off congrats on your new phone...but i have a question. how is the HSPA+ on that? im seriously considering selling my Tmo Vibrant for this if the HSPA+ is really what Tmo says its supposed to be within the 7mbps-14mbps
Can you do speed test on the g2? I love my nexus one, but I'm wondering how much faster this sucker is with hspa+. Also how is the video capture quality as well? Thanks for posting the video. I'm on the fence on spending 500 for this phone... (I'm on even more plus).
@goatmale Not sure exactly. I ordered the morning they started taking pre orders, at full price, with ground shipping. It shipped from Kentucky and I live near Chicago, and boom, got it today!
@jackpotMIA As of now - This phone is ROCK SOLID!. I Went from an N1 to Epic to G2. This phone FEELS faster than the N1 (maybe not in paper, but its the feel). GPU is a monster as you can see via neocore. The keyboard is great , maybe not as great as the Epic, but the epic felt soooo super cheap and crappy. The camera and flash are exceptional. This phone just screams its worth every penny , and a great addition to the android collection. Hope that helps.
@omnhitori .. ok thanks.. cause i get mines tomorrow.. and im anxious and cant wait til the morning, im so glad i live on the next block from the ups facility,i was almost a lil jealous when i see u with yours.. but im so glad to get rid of this cliq, i was real close to switchn to sprint for the evo r epic.. but then G2 came along and i had to 2nd that tought..
@omnhitori .. one other question.. tppl made big debates about this phone not being up to par with the samsung and the sprint phones.. whts your conclusion?
@jackpotMIA Samsung a sprint? I'll assume you mean the Galaxy S variants and Evo- Etc. I've never owned or touched an Evo, so no word on that one.
I have owend the Epic, which is as close as you can get to this. This phone to me, trumps the Epic in almost every aspect. The epic does suffer the Lag issues as most GS phones handling background processing and such. The G2 feels so buttery smooth with launcher pro it makes me sick. I would choose the G2 over any of those.. and even the N1
@omnhitori My Epic does not suffer from lag. Sure it's got it's quirks, but otherwise it's really fast and smooth. The G2 simply has much better ergonomics and industrial design. With an hour and a half left to turn my Epic in... I'm still not decided but leaning towards keeping it. Most of the issues it has can be fixed in updates (the gods willing) and the raw processing power is undeniable.
With the combination of 2.2, the new second gen snapdragon processor which now has it's own dedicated GPU that's inside the G2 is why it is FASTER then the Epic. Blow it out the water? Maybe in Quadrant scores. But they are both awesome phones. I would like to see what happens when the Epic get 2.2.
Oh, and only the Vibrant and Captivate suffered from lag because of a minor sdcard issue. Epic is built different due to 4G. So it lucked.
@omnhitori Well i think the only reason Epic feels "cheap" is because its designed to be light. In the smartphone zone most keyboard phones are heavy, but Epic is the first to have a large screen with a keyboard without feeling like your holding a brick. Epic is a GS phone so there is some lag due to software wise so rooting phone solves the issue if your into that thing. I'm happy that other people can get the G2 and Epic so they can enjoy the best android experience.
@jackpotMIA great review man u made me go pick this phone up lol i had an iphone but i dont like the same ol stock iOS so i decided to change to android.and just pic up an ipod touch 4g and bam got both OS. lol ..i just unlocked mine even though i cant use 4g and 3g i have wifi and this is blazing fast i compared with my iphone and its slighty faster
@sayanythingrock ~2000Kbps. This is faster speeds than my N1 had in the same area (reception is better? ) but another lucky G2 owner reported 8mbps in Atlanta, GA
thanks man nice video, one question do you know if it has mult-touch keyboard keyboard like the Droid X, if not how does the virtual keyboard feel to type on?
p.s notification LED FTW, i miss that on my galaxy
Hey, Are you in a HPSA+ City? a good one. Will you run a few Speed Test runs with the G2 please. Try holding still, and run it outside or inside. I'd love to see it's results.
Nice! So I have a big decision to make by tomorrow: keep my Samsung Epic or go back to T-Mobile (had G1 since day one) and get the G2. How is the camera on this compared to the Galaxy S phones? Also, keyboard vs Epic and video playback smoothness and codec support? Sorry to flood you with Q's! But thanks. Anything else you can add? Oh! Web browsing scrolling smoothness on a complex page? Cheers!
@DiscoDapper I came from an N1 to an Epic, so I know how it is. This phone feels rock fucking solid.
Camera is really crisp and nice, although the Epic had more features obviously. Haven't tried videos yet, but I'm sure the Epic takes that one too.
Scrolling is... smooth? I don't know, it doesn't feel smooth, but you feel like it should with all its power, I think it may be a bug, or just a gripe with me.
Epic keyboard takes the cake, but G2 is CLOSE. its all about 5 VS 4 row.
@killer3878 No the Desire Z does. The same phone but not for TMobile. This one is specific for TMobile and doesn't have Sense. It's stock Android. The same phone is for sale soon as the Desire Z and will have the new Sense UI
@vexx506 Sense UI is better now.. plus phone specs can handle Sense UI better than before.. have u seen the Desire Z rom? but my comment was towards killer who was wondering about Sense, so where did u come from? but anyways, hang around XDA.. they might have a way to port only the fast boot (aka Sleep on Windows Vista/7) soon.
@ggrant3876 i didnt realize that having a faster processor with separate gpu and real keyboard, better camera and much faster network speed meant it was behind...
Not a test per se, but how is the physical hardware? How's the speaker (better than the n1? (hopefully?) Also, are the haptic keys where they are supposed to be?
@TheSomeoneElse Hardware is solid. I love!!!!!! my back battery panel. It FEELS heavy, but like a fucking sexy , strong heavy that you enjoy holding...like you got what you paid for, a $500 phone.
@omnhitori hey can u tell me hows the screen res? is it good or ok and if it is good do u think it can compete with the retina display n da super amoled

@killer3878 No the Desire Z does. The same phone but not for TMobile. This one is specific for TMobile and doesn't have Sense. It's stock Android. The same phone is for sale soon as the Desire Z and will have the new Sense UI

@killer3878 u can add the Desire Z rom soon.. let the XDA devs get to work once they get their T-Mobile G2, root it, the port the Desire Z rom.

@LilJay2o6 sense ui sucks, all i want from that is fast boot, how long does the G2 take to start up completely?
vexx506 1 year ago
@vexx506 Sense UI is better now.. plus phone specs can handle Sense UI better than before.. have u seen the Desire Z rom? but my comment was towards killer who was wondering about Sense, so where did u come from? but anyways, hang around XDA.. they might have a way to port only the fast boot (aka Sleep on Windows Vista/7) soon.

@ggrant3876 Not behind at all, ahead in every aspect.

@ggrant3876 i didnt realize that having a faster processor with separate gpu and real keyboard, better camera and much faster network speed meant it was behind...

Nice. Thanks for posting this.
Not a test per se, but how is the physical hardware? How's the speaker (better than the n1? (hopefully?) Also, are the haptic keys where they are supposed to be?
TheSomeoneElse 1 year ago
@TheSomeoneElse Hardware is solid. I love!!!!!! my back battery panel. It FEELS heavy, but like a fucking sexy , strong heavy that you enjoy holding...like you got what you paid for, a $500 phone.

@killer3878 Its great. Its very bright and vivid. Its no AMOLED or SAMOLED, but I feel its nicer than most others. Definitely a step up from the G1

@omnhitori How about a Speedtest result sir? So we can see this built for HSPA+ works. I get around 4 MB/s down and 1.3 Up with my N1 in Vegas.
