@shanesperling I prefer Cliff Burton too. But saying that Jason Newsted was a "shit bass player" is ignorant. Because if you listen to the bass tracks for some of Metallica's early stuff ("Creeping Death" being a fine example), then you'll hear that he's out of time, sometimes not that much, sometimes horribly. I also happened to listen to the bass tracks for AJFA and then the full songs with the bass and it actually sounds awesome like a darker MoP. Jason is a very good bassist at best.

Jason would not have got the job if he was a "shit" player but when you look at a riff like "my friend" and realize he's just doing Anastasia (Dm, C) his stocks start to drop. He plays a decent supportive role but I think Metalica lost their luster with him. They needed a superstar, they got like you said a "good" bass player. 1 member can drastically change a band. Even if it's Bass.... ;)

I don't know if you're a musician or not, but I am and have been for 25 years. It's hard to keep writing new songs that don't start to sound the same trust me.As far as the whole bootleg thing goes, I think they may have said that before the entire industry fell on it's face. They're not starving but YOU try making half what you made last year, then half of that etc
