Considering how fast it all happened, I would think it is almost impossible to physically release the harness and look for a way out. It is also too low for any safe parachute deployment. RIP.

What you probably mean is that the aircrew overcompensated for the expected increase in lift when the load was released. He's supposed to trim the collective or cut the rpm's a bit as the aircraft releases it's load, obviously he did too much of one or the other and didn't have time to correct before tragedy struck.
