A feederfish is something you feed once a month to establish order. The toughest piranha can show the others he's the toughest by making the 1st move. However they are likely to carry live parasites, they have poor nutrition, and it's downright cruel to feed any piranhas that are short of starving a live fish because they won't kill it fast enough.

I got 2LBS of shrimp for $13 and you can buy a bag of scallops or other seafood that you think they will eat. I advise buying the food frozen or freezing it before feeding it to them to kill off potential parasites. Hot dog is cooked junk meats, NONE of which is seafood. farm raised meat=bad -- cooked meat=bad -- hotdog=terrible.
