Its not Surreal. Its Unreal. While criticizing sexuality commerce - a fruit of the inherent repression of any civilization- , it becomes sicker than what it criticizes.
@Longshot593 I agree about the stage being an inaequate mean for such a mount. But if he were a good professional , then he would keep an eye to the kind of soil he walks on carreer.
Oh please, everyone always has an issue whenever anything is translated into English for the sole reason that it's English. This song especially was translated nicely into English while being able to stay true to the cadence of the song. But obviously the French version is the best.
This is actually amazing translation. They took care not just to fit the syllables in the allotted number of notes, but also made everything rhyme PERFECTLY. Impressive indeed.
Being French, I guess that the original version would always be special to me. But I quite like the english one as well. Of course, it sounds different still. And I prefer to have a translation less literal that conveys the right meaning. They did a really good job! - Or maybe I just love Bruno Pelletier far too much?^^
Thank you so much for the lyrics ! Because I'm french, and I couldn't understand everything, it was getting on my nerves =P
By the way, I find that this version isn't bad at all. Of course I prefer the original, but it's better than the italian version (well in fact I cant' understand italian, so there's no point for me to listen to this song, because I already know the meaning of the lyrics and the music)
And I love this musical, and also Bruno's voice =D
@LeahTHP i don't agree with you, I'm sorry =) I found the italian version really wonderfull! Matteo Setti (Gringoire)has not only a very beautiful voice but also a great stage presence... But I have to admit that Garou and Bruno are great, absolutely! About lyrics: italian lyrics are the exact translation of the french ones... are almost equal!
I admit Matteo Setti is a great singer, and that he has indeed a good stage presence... But I think that he can definitely not be compared to Bruno ! It's a shame that there's no English version for this musical (I mean with its own singers and everything) because we cannot really compare with the french and the italian v. ... Well, maybe it's planned, I don't know... It would be great =D
It's rather refreshing to find a french person who appreciates the english version. I think that they are all great, it's hard to ruin something so beautiful!
Awful, mindless,ill-conceived lyrics and boring repetitive 'melody'. Could have used some interesting key changes and phrasings to highlight the main riff, but as it is, they didn't. Someone likes it though!
SPLOD41 - The sad thing is, it wouldn't even be that hard to amend it. "At Val D'amour love can be yours" would be an extremely quick fix for the first part of that. Laziness is a cruel thing.
Hi MagicalFenfen, Not a fan of this genre anyway but I do appreciate effort and talent. Anything looks good with a big stagedrop+lights, but I found this mediocre, repetitive & limp. Some lyric lines hit the mark but aren't consistant.Could have been vastly better had they thought about it more.I'm a musician so maybe I'm overly critical.Plenty folk seem to like it so what's the harm. Not for me though. :o)
I don't mind this version. Honestly, I think it ties for second with the Italian version, after the French version. It's just the translation I don't like. None of the lyrics in this musical sound right. All the rhymes are too forced, and sometimes it doesn't even make sense.
But I think Bruno singing it makes up for it. ;) I like this song in English because of Bruno and Steve singing it, not the lyrics.
Ok, this version just sucks! Bruno, were you high while you were signing the contract with the creators?!! He has such a beautiful voice and he makes such a fool of himself here! Was he choking while he was singing this? I'm not saying this because I think he's a lousy singer, it's the opposite- I adore him! Nothing can't beat the French version, I'm tellin' ya! BTW, thank you for uploading this! :)
Generally I like the English versions as much as the French and don't agree with the comments that say the English version are terrible. But I've heard both versions of this song now and I have to admit the French version is streets ahead. It's faster, subtler and all together more suited to the music and lyrics.
I guess the reason so many people think that the English version is terrible, because the language, translation just doesn't sound right with the music.
Having been introduced to the French version first, I got to say: such a sensual song just doesn't sound right in a harsh, clipped British accent. Sorry.
The English translation was a DISASTER! But the show sounds great in other languages... If only it had a staging and art design to match! Oy... Oh, well, perhaps a revival someday could fix that.
I believe it is him. It is his voice. You can also look at the "more info" up in the right corner. It says explicitly he's the one singing while Steve sings the part of Patrick.
Although I love him and his voice in all possible creations I must admit that this song sounds kinda funny in English ^^ I laugh how he spells 'd'Amour' ;)
I wonder if there's going to be a revival with a revised choreography, staging and set. Sorry, but this pseudo-avante-garde "concert" version just... Does.. NOT... Work!
Its not Surreal. Its Unreal. While criticizing sexuality commerce - a fruit of the inherent repression of any civilization- , it becomes sicker than what it criticizes.

I can't believe trash like this is allowed anywhere near a stage.
Longshot593 4 weeks ago
@Longshot593 Indeed a lot of trashes: the actors, the music and the message.
miguelmouta 2 weeks ago
@miguelmouta Actually, the guy is an excellent singer. But the message and the lewd conduct is inappropriate for a stage.

this is the best of the english translations for this musical imo, but it's still not nearly as good as the french. it sounds like an advertisement.

That's not a British accent...
It's weird, not quite American, but not British either. I think the singer is vaguely trying to sound French.
But you're right, the song sounds so much better in French!

AlexPazza - That's because Bruno Pelletier is a French Candian, whose mother tongue is French and not English. But a great voice has he, Master Yuda!
