  • this song is a great opener for this album, they stripped off there makeup and went back to basics with this album, its a really super album, one of there best from start to end,

  • best song from their no-makeup days

  • @gdwme A Million to One is also a great song. The Crazy Nights album is pretty damn good too.So many good tunes on it

  • @robzombys1 CN has too much keyboard in it.Lots of good Simmon's tunes though.Creatures rocks better!

  • I bought this album just because I liked Lick It Up, and as soon as i turned it on I was kicked in the teeth by this tune, definately one of my faves! But it's so hard to get my pick to just 1... or just 10 for that matter!

  • Kiss is still rocking yet but I must say their last 3 great albums were Revenge,Lick it Up ,and Creatures

  • you are right on thats rick derringer!

  • I love this song! Totally underrated.

  • Lick it Up is a great album and besides their 2 singles they had off this, the other songs are even better

  • great song, great record. Worst cover photo ever. lol

  • @berighteous the photo was shot at the last second, this is them in their street clothes that they wore to the studio sessions. Contrary to popular belief they were not going to take off their make up on this album it was a last second decision, hence the hurried cover photo. There is a phot shoot of them in make up for this album. Also Lick it Up was released in Japan with make up.

  • @JENDALL714 side note...Paul tried to get Gene to do it at the "Creatures of the Night" photo shoot.(drop the make up that is...)

  • @berighteous Well, I think Vinnie kind of brings it down, with that shirt and all. Otherwise it's not really that bad.

  • Rick Derringer on lead? Doesn't particularly sound like him.

  • @egyptianminor - yep, its Rick

  • @egyptianminor Yeah I am reading the book now and came here to hear the song after readign about it. Vincent claims he was not told about it until it was too late, that his style was not right and Vincent felt it was some of his best work. Vincent was always trying to play faster from what I could tell where Gene and Paul were more about 70's style bands.

  • I think they, Gene and Paul, just say shit like he didn't play this riff or that part to Piss Off the Vincester ,Cos they couldn't stand him in the end

  • IMHO, Lick It Up blows away a later album - aka Revenge

  • @evilunixuser1 - yeah, Revenge DOES suck compared to this.

  • @evilunixuser1 Yeah much better songs on LICK it Up.Revenge's highlight to me is Bruce Kulick's awesome playing.I think Asylum is better than Revenge because of Bruce's playing

  • Fantastic song with fantastic solo, also fantastic vocals in it!

  • 2:43 ...utterly incredible solo.

  • Favourite Kiss album opener...simply because the guitar solo KILLS ME. I read on Kiss FAQ that it is in fact, not Vinnie, but Rick Derringer. Still, it's bloody great, and Vinnie did a good job on the extended solo when they played it live.

  • Gene told me himself it was Derringer!

  • @kngscb - the lead is definitely Rick Derringer

  • great guitar solo by v v

  • I bought this album as soon as it came out. I think I was 16, cant believe its been 28 yrs ago. This album sounds just as good now as it did then. This song should be on the radio.......

  • This is one of the only two Kiss studio albums I didn't buy, I wish I had now!

  • Hypnotic solo performing, sounding and feeling-----Derringer did rule all the way in this song!

  • great solo by rick derringer, he was never credited with it though

  • @LedZeppelinforever19 Yes it is Derringer most people will not accept the truth!!!!

  • @kngscb

Rick Derringer is nowhere on this album

  • @darthinfurnus - that dont mean shit. anyone with a working brain cell knows thats derringer on lead. wanna differ? majority of leads on side four of kiss alive 2 (studio songs), lead NOT done by Ace, but actually done by Bob Kulick.

  • @evilunixuser1 Ace played on Rocket Ride only on side four of Alive II.

  • @66MrDonnie - no shit, Bob Kulick did the leads on the rest

  • @kngscb

    Yep.

  • i love kiss, there music is in YOUR FUCKING FACE MELTING ROCK AND FUCKING ROLL!!

  • I may be an idiot but what does album version mean? How is this any different?

  • @KISSFAN1970 It was on the album. That's what it means. Trust me, I did not know what that meant either.

  • @KISSFAN1970

This guy had a demo version of this song up titled (Demo Version) which I can't find anymore. They played it heavier on that version. It was great, but anyway that's why it's titled this way

  • @darthinfurnus Thanks for the clarification and I'm not trying to make a big deal out of something so trivial but normally if someone posts a song on here that isn't anything other than the original version of the song they normally just post the song title. So when I see things like (Album Version,Live version,Demo version) I assume the song is not the original release. So as it turns out in this case Album Version really means nothing special. It's the same exact version I've always known.

  • i got a shot of chilled tequila got this mother fucker up to 11, and a big middle finger up to the rock n roll hall of assholes!!!!!!

  • Ooh, I love songs like this that have a galloping rhythm (other examples are Led Zeppelin "Achilles Last Stand" and Heart's "Barracuda").

  • Rick Derringer plays the solo in this song.

  • @priffipruff ..what,who??????

  • @TheWheelofLife100 Rick Derringer plays the solo......thats all.

  • @TheWheelofLife100 Just "google" Kiss + Rick Derringer and see for yourself.

  • Does anyone here have the demo version of this song? It used to be here on YouTube but disappeared!

  • VINNIE IS A FAG..

  • @ZIPPY1749 dude Vinnie kicks ass, case closed

  • VINNIE IS FAG.

  • VINNIE IS FAG.

  • Wondering - if a song such as this appeared on DESTROYER, how would KISS have faired at the time?

  • An underrated song from an underrated album. Vincent added more to KISS than a lot of people would admit... including Stanley and Simmons.

  • Now that's some kick ass rock and roll!

  • vinnie definatley would have gave ace a run for his money had he stayed

  • Intro sounds like Diamonds and Rust by Judas Priest, sounds like something else too, but I can't put my finger on it.

  • @wwerulestna True, i also hear a similar riff used in The Oath

  • @WykEdInC Yeah true

  • @wwerulestna - Dissident Agressor comes close.

  • Listen to the Energy paul had. the range!! This song ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

  • @97warlock Pauls vocals back then were amazing...So much energy and power in his voice. Another good example is Strutter on the Australia smphony video. Probabley the best, check it out..................

  • well we know where dimebag darrell got the idea for the cowboys from hell intro.

  • I think all things kiss is great but i think VInnie was the 2nd best guitarist for kiss. Great writer and also he did a awesome job with aces solos live which i never thought bruce did.

Also bruce copied alot of solos vinnie did in the set of the animalize tour. Also this is not vinnie on this solo.

Also vinnie was not a contracted member either which is another reason they fought.

Also vinnie had no creative control in kiss and bruce pretty much got to do what ever.

  • Kiss is ok. Seems more 70's to me. Im all about the 80's. Motley Crue

  • evilunixuser if im not wrong i dont think vinnie actually joind kiss.

  • @swajtenn he was never an official member, he never signed a contract so he was just a session player and when ace wouldnt tour he replaced him temporarily

  • KISS restera a jamais dans la legende du rock.

    du vrai et bon son!!!

  • mark st. John passed away, like a year or two ago

  • I like this song..thats why I covered it

if you want to check out my other vidoes, that would be fine ;)

  • thats my fav song off that album

  • great tune,great song!

  • i believe vinnie's axe was a rhoads model also

  • @drquesadilla yea vinnies guitars were both RR1 rhoads v models actually when randy died they handed him the whole line of rhoads v's believe it or not

  • Yeah turn it up to 10 and keep it up, i love this track

  • Probably best song off this Album

  • amazing vocals love paul xD 3<

  • the guitar solo that appears here is Rick Derringer

  • You are a smart man lol You can tell the ppl that know kiss when you go to the comment sections

  • I agree Creature was is I guess I should say lol their best album and their best work.

  • the only good song on Lick It Up, sounds like it could of been on Creatures.

  • Vinnie is a rip off...

    A Gary Moore RIP OFF!

Listen to "the end of the world" by Gary Moore.

Vinnie's guitarsolo live back in 1983 on the LICK IT UP tour even has got a lot of rippoffs and elements from Gary's solo live...

  • vinnie liked to play like Randy Rhoads, even by how he acted on stage

  • this sounds like their song danger in a way

  • I hear what you mean. Also sounds in the vein of "The Oath"

  • creatures of the night is my favorite kiss album .its there best work i think

  • I agree.

  • Destroyer is slightly better I think.

  • Great song. Great album.

  • KISS' best albums of the 80's in order:

    1. Lick it up

    2. Animaliize

    3. Creatures of the Night

    4. Hot in the Shade

    5. The Elder

    6. Asylum

    7. Crazy Nights

    8. Unmasked

Did not include Smashes, Thrashes and Hits because it wasn't a studio album.

  • No Creatures of the Night. Hot in the Shade. Asylum Lick it up

Animalize Unmasked The Elder Crazy Nights cause it was crap.

  • I can concede that Crazy Nights was crap but do you really think Asylum was better than Lick it Up or Animalize?

Well at least you are a KISS fan, rock on!!

  • Ya that is just my opinion. In this time frame Simmons was not writing as well as he could have. Listen to revenge to see what I mean. I may piss off some people. I think they were better in the non make-up days. The make up concerts are choreographed. Without the make-up they were free to roam.

  • I agree, i dont like the make up days that much. Overall in the 80's I think musically they were writting better songs. And if they let BK display his talent more, I think kiss would of been a better band.

  • It has always been about Paul and Gene. Even in the beginning. Ace is so great that it is hard to show him making any mistakes in his guitar work. Before Destroyer Peter was a monster on the drums. Eric Carr, Bruce Kulick, Vinnie Vincent, Mark St John, Eric Singer and the later versions of Ace and Peter were just hired guns. Sad is it not?

  • Ace does has a unique flavor to his playing, so yeah I guess kiss overall 70 and 80's would of have been way better. I guess Gene and Paul felt they over shadowed their talent.

  • TRUE-TO A PIONT-THEY WROTE GREAT SONGS IN THE LATE 80s and 90s that didnt get air play/BUT THEY COULD HAVE HIRED ANYONE TO PLAY LEAD.ITs pauls music that has kept them alive.

  • @nationofgodstar Not really. Maybe Bruce played a little generic at times, but if you listen closely to Mark's playing on both his solo album(Magic Bullet Theory) and Animalize, you'll hear he had a very unique sound and style.

  • @Whackooyzero - I agree that Mark ST. John was a bad ass guitarist. He had a very unique style of playing.I loved him,but the music itself that he played lead on was written by Paul Stanley. I havent had the chance to hear his solo album yet. Is it on youtube?

  • @nationofgodstar Yeah, just look up "Mark St. John Magic Bullet Theory" and you can get the whole album.

  • You get thumb down for dissing my fav album CRAZY NIGHTS!

  • Your favorite album speaks volumes for you.. Its all good.

  • best song on the album

  • the first few seconds sort of sounds the beginning to rebel yell

  • i mena white wedding. it sounds sorta like the beginning of white wedding

  • Vinnie ripped that one off from Gary Moore's End of the world... period!

  • Vinne wrote this.. so vinnie WINS the argument.

  • Love him hate him paul got a range that would give most female vocalist a nose bleed .

  • Very very underated KISS classic!!!

  • passion and fire, lust and desire!!! i'm basicly made up of all that KISS ROCKS FOR LIFE!!!!

  • 2:45

  • true thayer aint THE SPACEMAN take it off...

    ACE is the only Spaceman

  • Surrender to me and I'll guarantee, you'll pray that the night never ends

  • 2:45- 2:59 is so bad ass

  • That's no joke. I keep thinking of that passage as one of the best guitar solo moments ever.

Certainly Vinnie Vincent's finest fifteen seconds.

  • lol hate to ruin it for you man but thats not vinnie playing the solo its rick derringer gene and paul had him come in and play a different solo because they didnt like what vinnie played

  • absolute fact

  • i read in their biography that Rick Derringer is the one who plays the solo on this song

  • i like vinnie vincent groove :)

  • pauls voice is the best

  • Would u be able to send this amazing song to me?

  • ke dire, ke dire... i love kiss tout simplement lol

  • vinnie vincent rules!!!!

  • Lick It Up is an excellent KISS album. I`m soooo EXCITED!

  • At least Vinnie was a member of KISS - this asshole taking Ace's place on the current KISS world tour is a KISS wanna-be.

  • I agree!! You can't, YOU CAN'T replace the Spaceman!!! He's a fucking iconic member of Kiss. That's like replacing Lincoln on Mount Rushmore!! This mofo will never be as good as Ace. He will never be Ace. NEVER!!!!!!!!!!

  • its not all about an icon the band wants people to love and respect the music so changes must be made so the music can be good its all about the music

  • @crisshasfaith Love ace not trying to disrespect him in any way..However in my opinion Vinnie is better.

  • @NocturneKing Yes but Bruce is better still

  • @SuperGorgar Going to have to respectfully disagree with you about that.

  • @NocturneKing I understand your position, Vinnie was good and I understand why you like Vinnie but I just think Bruce was a better solo guitarist and I felt like Asylum was an album that fit the times whereas Lick it up was not quite a hardcore album and not quite a hairmetal album either. It was somewhere in between as cool as it was.

  • @evilunixuser Yeah, the Ace-wannabe was a road manager before lol

    Can't stand the guy.

  • @SamFisherCell He was the guitarist for Black n Blue throughout the 80's. Why do you not like him? He plays the role of Ace well. He has no choice, they aren't putting out new material, they are just giving the fans what they want, Kiss original, and the real Ace is in no shape to tour.

  • @evilunixuser ---- well said

  • @evilunixuser stop being a hater

  • @evilunixuser Ace's guitar tech is a wanna be? The one that had to re teach Ace HIS OWN licks? There isnt a single member of Kiss past and present that IS NOT relevant or very much a member of Kiss. Once you play guitar like Tommy Thayer or anywhere close to it THEN you may talk shit.. Untill then please dont hate on what you obviously don't know about,, KTHX

  • This song is the reason I just re-bought this CD! My CD's were stolen from my car about two years ago and I had about 100 CD's in there, including this one. It's taken a while to re-buy them again.

  • I respect your opinion. I like Kiss in all it's forms. Yes I even liked the Dynasty/Elder/Unmasked albums. Lick it up and Animalize were not my favorite albums but they are good. I think Crazy Nights was when Kiss got it together without make-up and since then their albums have been fairly good. Ace is my favorite guitar player in Kiss, but Kullick grew on me and IMO Kiss has some good songs and albums with or without make up. And I really liked Eric Carr he made Kiss heavier, and could sing.

  • this song rocks!!!

  • A lot of KISS fans dislike Vinnie Vincent, but you have to admit he changed their rock sound for the better LOL I really liked this album and song, and wished VV could have stayed around longer.

  • I think most fans would of accepted him except he had a phallic (associated with penis worship)symbol on his face for his make-up and used a pink guitar. I'm sure he meant for it to mean the women worshipped him, but it seemed to imply he was homo-sexual. These days it wouldn't mean much but at the time in the 80's it was not accepted. Vinnie is ok in my book, I even bought the Vinnie Vincent Invasion album, IMO it was better than his work with KISS, but I was glad when Kullick came along.

  • Phallic symbol?

That's an Ankh. A symbol of life in Egyptian script. Most gods in Egyptian mythology carried one.

  • hahaha

  • This album roared up the charts in '83 to # 33?.

Stanley wanted it to get in the top 10 though.

    Great album!

  • I think it hit #24, but it was their first platinum record in four years!

  • i love this song, but yea i love ebony women more!

  • i love ebony women too!

  • KISS are the best band ever
