Elvis sings a beautiful version, for sure, but it's not "his" song. It's from the Broadway musical, "Carousel." Richard Rogers composed the music and Oscar Hammerstein II, the lyrics. It opened on April 19, 1945, and ran for about 2 1/2 years - 890 performances. It has been revived on Broadway half a dozen times since, and is one of the most widely performed musicals in the world. There have been thousands of performances by high schools, colleges, local theater groups, all over the world.
quite good, not nearly as powerful as Elvis obviously, though a commendable attempt.
Elvis raw vocal power, panache, and pain of heart were a unique combination of characteristics which you don't see in singers today.
