In "Thunder Alley" it's hard for me to picture Annette Funicello playing the role as "the other woman" instead of "the girl next door" in the Beach Party movies.
Do you remember the peanut butter commercial that started with Annette asking, Can you believe these are really mine?
Of course she was referring to her 2 kids playing in the background. But from the way that the shot was framed, there were a few awkward moments when it seemed like she might be referring to her large, ever-prodigious breasts, dead center screen and foreground. The commercial created a lot of buzz at the time. I dont know how long they kept airing it after.
This is Annette Funicello's last appearance in an American Internationmal Pictures release (she'd worked for the studio non-stop for the prior four years in most of the beach party movies). Some viewers look at her performance in Thunder as an atttempt to transition into a late 60's Nancy Sinatra-style "groovy chick." If so, that was doomed to failure; her "disney-esque" lady-like persona shines through as loud as ever in this thing!!

The last wreck, where a car was broadsided involved Buren Skeen at Darlington in 1965. He died as a result of his injuries. RIP Buren.
