  • thsi song is just perfectly harmony's style...

  • I wish I hadnt quit band. Would it be weird to make this my wedding song lol

  • @joolaycho no. many have...im thinking would it be weird to have this at my funeral.

  • man, im 16 a sophomore, this is my goal for my senior year.. trumpets representin ~

(ya i know thats not a trumpet..)

  • this guys a beast i love this song

  • This one blew me away. But the version played by David Childs on Euphonium is more my type of sound, even though this one is astonishing!

    I just love the song...

  • a very good interpretation of the music. 10/10

  • Thank god 240p doesnt affect the sound :)

  • Maravilhosa interpretação!!!

  • Is it possible to find the score for trumpet of this interpretation? It's the best arrangement I've heard!!!

  • @jojotremb i couldn't find one but its a really easy song to do it by ear, it really dosn't have to be the same style as this song u can play it alittle differently. like i kinda play this song as his style but its alittle different

  • He plays so wonderful, so soulfull, with so much feeling! Still, the music is written by an Italian and the notes are written in the western, Occidental manner, and an Oriental playing it is like......kind of an invasion of territory.....and there are so many of them playing our music! Still, very nice rendition, his, Chan Ahn's, Kang Lee's, and some 200 more millions of them....next America's president will be Asian.

  • Good. I agree, but Morricone knew what he was doing when he wrote if for Oboe.

  • While this man is obviously a great musician, he should stick to the trumpet. This is as far from cornet sound as it is, probably, possible to get. I've noticed many Japanese/Korean players struggle with this, although being otherwise brilliant; they do not even get close to the open, soft tone a cornet is supposed to have, sounding rather mechanical, or even "dead". Don't get me wrong, apart for this sounding like a sibelius trumpet, the musical performance is outstanding!

  • @Hackspit why dont you play it then in front of all those people????

  • I know him. We played together in Nagoya.

He is the fantastic trumpet player! He is the artist.

  • Can I just point out, THAT'S NOT A TRUMPET!!!!!!!! It's a Cornet, God's own instrument.

  • @gundumauna I fully agree! Imagine, Maestro Moriccone, in all his genius, made sure that this piece can be played through so many musical instruments, i.e., piano, trumpet, euphonium, violin, organ, clarinet, OBOE.

  • Brass at its best. Fantastic.

  • There's a brass band arrangement for this with a solo for soprano cornet. I believe it sounds just as good as the original if not better but hey its one of the most beautiful songs ever composed :D what ever instrument its played on.

  • I think any instrumentalist who can play with such integrity of pitch and tone (like this guy, and many others) can play it on whatever instrument they choose. Yo-yo Ma rocks it on the cello. Don't go knocking Yo-yo.

  • I must say that I probably would concur that this song does sound it's best on an oboe in most arrangements, but this particular performance still stands out as one of the best. This man brings a tangible dignity to the piece, no senseless over expression no lavish interpretation of dynamics, just the song, at it's simplest, and yet it's purest, and most elegant of forms. And you know what, it does sounds very British...that part I can't quite pinpoint why, but it does.

  • let me set this straight for everyone. this solo sounds best on euphonium. not oboe or trumpet =D

  • @mrben772 u r crazy and nasty for saying that! Oboe all the way

  • @Kuntipac No he is very sane...

  • @kyuubisharinan3296 I disagree, being that I am also an oboist

  • @mrben772 I heard David Childs play it on the euphonium. Very nice.

  • This is nice and all, but I think it sounds best on an oboe.

  • almost as good as euphonium ;P

  • Lovely playing.TY for posting.

  • thats a cornet, not trumpet =P

  • my tears dropped down, i cry~

  • Very nice, but he rushes the tempo just a bit and ought to be a bit more sensitive in certain places. Listen to David Agnew play in on the oboe.

  • @pbj4toast

    he doesnt "rush" anything retard.

its just the way they arranged it.

im sure this guy, whos a professional, knows what hes doing

  • that tone is my dream, lol

  • amazing the taste of mamma

  • The horns playing the melody absolutely blows me away, and when he goes up on that descant around 2:20....Wow!!!

  • Comment removed

  • This is amazing, I agree,but i think it's better on Euphonium . :D

  • Heart-warming melody, written for oboe, but who cares. It's not like only oboes have the right to play it. Performances like this really make me want to get back to cornet, which this is by the way. Not a trumpet, a cornet, there IS a not insignificant difference.

    Kudos for the performance :-)

  • anyonghaseyo I really like you when your playing trumpet I'm also a musician and if you dont mind can I ask the copy of this piece for my practicing because I like that piece so much.More power and God bless you.Kamsahamnida.

  • Piękna muzyka. Cudowne wykonanie.

  • So beautifull....but i prefer oboe!

  • love this !!! x

  • Crazy awesome. I just wish Youtube had better sound quality.

  • the best

  • i think this beautiful whatever.....we should say thank you to Ennio who gave us such beautiful compositions

  • He plays a cornet (not a trumpet).

  • @esolheim

    I actually read Korean

and when his Name appeared on the screen,

it said "Trumpet" right below it.

  • If one song I ever so loved, it would be "Gabriel's Oboe." I own about ten different renditions of this song. Some are piano, some trumpet, some strings (Yo-Yo Ma), some guitar, and some organ. Of course my favorite is with the oboe. I would not say this is my favorite rendition by any means, but I respect it, and I do not have a problem with the trumpet being used. It is creative license. It transcends. And it is up to the individual ear to make the decision for one's self, not for everyone.

  • I'm with 'paddyjimbo' ! So well played and moving, why on earth does it matter if it's been transcribed ?

  • Hmm...I would now like to hear this played on a flugelhorn.

  • one thing to most of you its not a trombone get it right

another thing it sounds ok as a trumpet why complain?

  • I can understand a trumpet player choosing to transcribe a piece for his/her recital, but it is embarrassing that any real establishment would condone having a trumpet player - no matter how amazing - play a famous oboe piece in an orchestra backed performance. Not to mention it is clearly not written for trumpet and just sounds awful. I wish I hadn't stumbled on this - it makes my skin crawl. What a shame.

  • @jhennypher1 Yo Yo Ma played it on a cello..Yep, with an orchestra. Not an oboe..anything wrong with that?

  • TRES BELLE INTERPRETATION

  • I love listening to this music over and over. He's really the best trumpeter in Korea...

  • this one no make for me maybe with another trumpet player, the tongue playing dah,dah ,dah kill me!!!

  • i think that trombone playing this solo.. it would be very impressive!!!

  • najpiękniejsz wykonanie jakie słyszałem

  • Beautiful Cornet tone!!

  • I have to agree, the trumpet is a great instrument but it doesn't suit this piece. It can't help but sound a bit triumphant where it should be pensive.

  • The trumpet is fine. But it just doesn't have the plaintive sound of the oboe which is key to the emotional content of the music.

  • As both an oboist and a trumpeter, I can't help but feel it's just wrong to play this song on anything other than an oboe.

  • Does anyone need score(Music sheet )for this? give me e-mail address.

  • where could i get the sheet music for this score i play the trumpet

  • just get the oboe part and transpose it down a tone

  • It is a cornet, not a trumpet or a flugelhorn.

  • yes, it a cornet.

  • Lol

  • oh he is so hot!!

  • Quality of performance is excellent. :)

Quality of video is garbage. :(

  • great sound!!!!!!

  • Does anbybody have the score? If has, this exactly sheet, please send :)

  • It's titled Gabriel's Oboe for a reason.

  • @smithgaryh1 (music belongs to the world not to a specific instrument.... are you going to tell Yo Yo Ma he can only play original 'cello pieces?) variety is good, it's great to have different perspectives on pieces - some work, some don't... this one does...

  • LOL He Is An Awesome Trompet Player But He Is Also Very Funny

  • i love how he puts his own touch to this song

  • a solo version for just trumpet/ cornet or also with piano

    thanks

  • i really want to play this song for a concert but i cant find a version for trumpet or cornet in a book or as sheet music anywhere on the internet

so if anyone knows where i could find a copy please send me a message

    thanks

  • i have score,

  • i would also want to know!

  • Version for Brass Band or windorchestra

    De Haske Arr.Roland Kernen

    Solo trumpet or cornet

  • its better played on cornet :) more feeling to it :D same with euph

  • four minuts of love...I LOVE TRUMPET AND EUPHONIUM...

  • This guy blew me away. Thats one hell of a compliment coming from a tuba player.

  • @tubamarc8891 A tuba player? Great!

  • The best trumpeter of Korea.

  • This was played at my mom's wedding yesterday, SO beautyful!

  • This is one of the most beautiful arrangements and performances of this piece that I have heard. The soloist is an outstanding internationally renownwed performer. Who are you people to criticise? Please post a video of one of your performances with an orchestra of this quality or simply shut up.

  • @paddyjimbo i totaly agree with u

  • @tinamarie1998 Thanks! You get fed up listening to all these guys who seem to know everything about everything. Nice to hear that the world is not full of 'experts'!

  • @paddyjimbo What a childish and stupid argument. People are allowed to like or dislike things without being able to produce them themselves. As it happens, I think this is utterly dire. Not a piece of music for brass, no matter how skilful the player. An object lesson in how to ruin a decent tune.

  • @Limpandtotheleft Yes you'll be right. Now away back into class and practice your scales.

  • @Limpandtotheleft you're thinking is so linear! It doesn't matter what instrument you play so long the true emotions of the musical piece is carried over. FYI playing this on a trumpet is far more challenging than playing it on other instrument.

  • I like this arrangement.

The cornet has a warmer tone than the oboe.

I have nothing against the oboe though.

  • Interesting arrangement and license taken by the soloist. Beautiful cornet tone. Nice, full and dark.

  • I don't like his interpretation, the timings are all off

  • Comment removed

  • Firstly, to correct myself, the timings are not all off. I worded that wrongly. Have you ever heard the piece written for the movie? He plays with it alot. His "interpretation" changes the style of the piece. And no, the orchestra is actually right on time

  • I love Gabriel's Oboe! Hehe.

  • People don't want to pay money to hear him play it exactly the way others play it. They pay to hear his interpretation.

  • he's a professional soloist... he gets paid to play off the page... his timings don't have to be perfect cause he's adding motion to the song

  • Comment removed

  • better than this? Of course, because you guys have been professionally performing for over 10 years...

Please, upload a video to back up your claim. otherwise, go away.

  • i am assuming that the solist has a masters degree in performing from notre dame faculty of music?

  • fantastic

  • OMG LISTEN TO THE HORNS!!! AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They just made an already great performance SPECTACULAR!

  • Oy... just close your eyes and listen, enjoy the music, stop getting so technical, just enjoy a brilliant player who plays sublimely well...lovely stuff :0)x

  • Chris Botti ☼ Gabriel's Oboe ☼ from "The Mission" BELLISSIMMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

  • why don't you figure it out by listening... .it's just a melody

  • Comment removed

  • He's playing it in A-flat.

I think you'll have to buy it (like everyone else).

  • It's a cornet not a trumpet.. Dumb ass.

  • they're pretty much the same instruments...

  • Not at all. Every brass player knows that..

  • Same key, same fingerings, same technique needed, about the same size.

If you can play the cornet you can play the trumpet, and vice-versa.

  • Up to a point. Its a bit like comparing the organ to the piano. Cornet technique is a bit different to the trumpet as its a small horn. There are very few really good cornet players who are also good trumpet players and visa versa. One of our local orchestras maintains a seperate cornet section for romantic period works for this reason.

  • I play both cornet and trumpet. Key and fingering are the same, but the technique isn't, and they are different size. But indeed, you can play trumpet if you play cornet and vice-versa. I think trumpet is more difficult.

  • @matters9319 - that's true in a physical sense of how the instruments are constructed.... but in reality there are very very few people who play both well.... psychologically there is a world of difference between the C & T....

  • woooooooaaah, no they aren't mate

  • Comment removed

  • This is my favorite version of Gabriels Oboe!! Much better then being played on an oboe :P

  • you should listen to the one played by david childs on euphonium

  • Great!!

What's the first note of this song?

  • first note of the tune is F on Bb instrument

  • Sounds like an F.

But I play the trumpet and have this solo, mine is a G. I think they may have changed the key to best fit the Cornet.

  • piękne!!!

  • Beautifully played very nice. Very enotional

  • it's not a trumpet but a cornet ! (nice piece :))

  • I like the horn solo at the end too :)

  • the original is better and the Chros Botti version is good too

  • i don't like this version at all even if it was played on an oboe... i still prefer the original arrangement by Maestro Ennio Morricone

  • Hermoso! Nunca lo escuche tocado por una corneta.

  • I dont like this version :S

Too much vibrato and is he moving with the orchestra or at his own tempo?

Being a cornet player myself :)

    LOVEEE ITT

  • I don't like Gabriel's Oboe played on trumpet,

it's sounds so much better on Euphonium.

  • OR TUBA!!!!!!! haha

  • With the trumpet, it's a slightly different tone than whe played with oboe. it's more... how to say.... deeper, ambitious... Moving in a different way.

I still prefer original oboe version -- it's sweeter and very moving, but this is inspiring too.

  • Would be good on horn, in the original key of D but one octave below the original oboe version.

  • who cares wat hes playin!!!?!?

    its amazin no matter what!!

  • it's nog an E flat cornet it's a B flat cornet.

  • one of the best Korean trumpeter

  • it's not important if it is a cornet or a trumpet...this is a precious music ;)

  • Epic fail. Cornet is much softer tone. Trumpet will ruin this piece!

  • it's no trumpet but a cornet

  • this was played in my grandfathers funeral, it allways makes me thinking of him and it makes me sad :'(

  • Beautiful! But that's not a trumpet,that's a cornet.. :)

  • its trumpet.. but i think a g trumpet.. definitely not a flugel horn though

  • it is a bass trumpet.

you can tell by the configuration of the tubing.

A G Trumpet is small, and a Flugelhorn doesnt have a prominant 3rd tuning slide

  • No brass instrument, no matter the type, would stoop down to the level of a saxophone.

  • @gaelicband - I admire your conviction - however on this occasion you are wrong - it's definitely a cornet... nice piece, great arrangement, super playing....

  • E flat cornet

  • It's a cornet, a flugel horn is much bigger, a g trumpet has a different shape, he plays to "high pitched" to play a bass trumpet, it's certainly not a not ha saxophone (haha) and it's not an e flat cornet cus an e flat cornet plays waay higher/hig pitched than this cornet. :)

  • The best!!!!!

  • It's a tear jerker.

  • I felt the playing was a bit reserved and not free enough

    but nevertheless very good playing!

I'm not sure about using the cornet though...although it has warmer sound and is more lyrical, I think using a Bb trumpet would provide fuller sound, especially for that part 3/4 through when he reaches for the heavens

  • nice!!!!!!!!!!

    excellent

    musical orgasm..i had

  • a pure piece of music
