a couple questions:

1) are the strings suposed to be loose or tight, cuz i have an untuned bass and i have the strings tight, i can still play and everything and it sounds good, but i want to tune it so i can jam with my friends.

2) Why is it that when i try to finger pick my bass it makes a tinging sound and sounds horrible and really really low sound. I have to use a pick because i suck at fingering.

I'm about to start trying to play bass, and so far I've seen a few people who play with all their fingers--kind of like how guitarists use all their fingers (save for the pinky).

Is this accepted, or should you only ever use your pointer and middle fingers?

@RockRebel219 all about comfort but in general yes the most common style is middle and index if you look up covers for the song "The Trooper" by iron Maiden youll see what a lot of people do is do a weird lookin "roll" using their index then middle then ring fingers to create a sort of "galloping" sound and then a lot of metal bassits who use fingers instead of picks have perfected some crazy way of plucking with those same three fingers which i cant do to save my life haha
