That boss was stupid.... when your Driver runs away it's time to hit the deck fast while drawing your piece.
To me the man was not doing his security properly, no cover, no concealment and just standing there watching his driver run away.
More so you better have your ear to the ground and lots of friends.... so that unhappy people will be made happy and greedy/foolish people will be made wise.
@GeneHeim1 He acted like an innocent old man, just like Paul Castellano. If your coming from a life like this, you should have the least knowledge of what it means when your driver takes off and leave you hanging, even if your not a street guy. You can't just stand there and be like "huh" and look at him running lol.
@MobHeataEnt As I recall Paul was ambushed. FWIW Mr. Castellano was NOT a "street guy". He started off as a butcher then rose to become a fine businessman. I don't know the specifics of his mafia career but do know that Mr. Gambino appointed him the Boss.
@GeneHeim1 Yeah tell me something I don't know I know the whole story. I read Boss of Bosses by O'Brien and Gotti: Rise and Fall by Jerry Capeci and Gene Mustain. In both cases they don't label Castellano as street guy, he was a legitamate businessman and Carlo's brother in law that is how he got upped and passed Aniello Dellacroce who everyone that was gonna replace Carlo. When Aniello got passed that is why majority Gambinos agreed on the Castellano hit. He didn't respect his capos.
@MobHeataEnt Paul didn't respect "street people". Nino Gaggi tried very hard to sponsor Roy DeMeo. Roy worked hard for Mr. Gaggi, stole cars and handled difficult situations. Paul gladly took Roy's money but stalled on making him. Made street guys think Mr. Castellano thought bad of them.
Mr. Castellano had an affair with his housekeeper with his wife in the house. This scandalized street guys, made them think Mr. Castellano was "soft" and unreliable.
@GeneHeim1 Paul was a legitimate guy, Gotti didn't like that and he didn't like the fact that the guy didn't come to John Gotti's mentor's funeral and long time Gambino capo. That was a sign of disrespect so they took him out.
This scene was inspired by John Gotti's hit on Paul Castellano, where Paul went out of the restaurant and then four of Gotti's men came with Russian hat's and shot down Paul, the car that goes by was Gotti and Gravano observing the hit.
@nappa666 I had a supervisor who used to greet one of his reports each morning by pushing him back from his desk, taking out his pack, putting one in his mouth and having the guy light him up. It was humiliating to watch this act and it happened very often.
I wouldn't trust someone who let me shit on them like that.
@nappa666 They talked about the food, the boss asked "Do you mind?". He should have been watching Phil more carefully.... the dead eyes spoke volumes.
Should have also had better intelligence and security. Just like Paul Castellano - he ignored his street people, wouldn't mingle with them and act like a Boss.
Managers manage, Leaders Lead. The biggest part of any outfit is reliability and reliability is an intuition, a sense of trust. Lose it and you're dead.
This scene really echoes the real life shooting of Paul Castellano outside Sparks Steakhouse in the 80's. Butchy driving by and stopping to look at Doc's body is exactly what witnesses said Sammy Gravano and John Gotti did at that scene in 1985. Only, the shooters wore long white trench coats and black fur Russian hats, not track suits.
I think they should have had a least 2 more episodes of Doc making transitions into becoming boss to show how sinister he can be aside from whacking the hairdue. remeber at one point Tony said he would rather Phil be boss than Doc (when he was speaking to Little Carmine) so Tony had to say that for a reason; this would have made it much more epic when Phil decided to kill Doc.
@HeartBrave83 You don't ever take food off another wiseguys plate esp a capo like Phil. Doc was being disrespectful and rubbing Phil's face in it that he was the boss.
This scene is clearly an illusion to John Gatti's hit of Paul Castellano that he implimented to become boss. And the hit on the street outside a resturant in front of lots of civilians the same way Castellano and his body gaurd got hit, and left lying in the street, is a clear imitation of real life.
@Mattraction513 We love 'em. All any witness can say is they saw guys in track suits driving a shit box. Meantime, the track suits are in a dumpster, and the shit box is crushed at a scrap yard.
@GeneHeim1 No...you use a gun with no serial numbers and wear gloves so you don't leave prints...drop it at the scene. Carry it off and you have to get rid of it elsewhere or risk getting caught with it. Then you're tied to the murder.
@Flipper85 If you use the proper gloves and can somehow obtain a totally untraceable firearm, yes. You'd have to be certain that there were no skin cells or other DNA evidence in the firearm (ie pocket lint).
If you take the piece with you and dispose of it there is no weapon to tie to the killing
Both courses of action entail some risk. It's best to avoid violence altogether, far cheaper and you sleep better.

Faustino Doc Santoro was one of many complete idiots on the Sopranos that got exactly what was coming to him. It's fitting that a ignorant loudmouth should get killed just like Moe Green...with a bullet in his eye.
@ralphobia902 At that time in the series the Lupertazzi family had no official Boss and there was a power vacuum at the top. Usually the rule is you can only kill another made man only if it's sanctioned. Phil did it to solidify his spot as Boss and he likely had the support of all the capos.
@79Testo look at it from a Paulie perspective: I can only get a dish. Two sound delicious. My friend gets the other. I wanna try the second plate. What the hell else I'm going to do?
Now fries-mate, you don't ever touch another man's french fries.
@afterapplepicking and he was shot in the eye i remember reading something about that after watching the godfather when moe green was shot that its meant to show that his eyes were bigger than his stomoch and i can see how that would relate in this scene
