Hi Mark, thanks for your comments ! In the US most people don't use bypasses either. We wrote a post on controltrends that agrees with your statement that a bypass is usually not worth the time or money.

I am curious, in the US lot's of our customers prefer the Johnson or Honeywell ( both name branded by Vacon) to the ABB because of the English language prompts, and display options.

Does ABB have English language prompts now?

I've used older Vacon drives and don't like them much. I've not used this type with the full text keypad so can't comment on how easy this one is. But all this drive has done is caught up with the competition. ABB have had full text keypads for years and I find them very easy to use.

I don't think that intellipass unit is much use. Here in the UK drives are hardly used on motors running at mains frequency, so that bypass would hardly ever get used making it a waste of space and money.

It's a Vacon drive. Eaton-Cuttler Hammer drives are actually Vacon drives. Vacon brand labels for many different companies.

That's actually an Eaton Cutler Hammer VFD that has been brand labeled.

@ModiconBob Thanks for the observation. Johnson actually had Eaton name brand drives for some of the smaller sized drives in their VFD portfolio, it is my understanding they are switching over to Vacon
