WAY COOL.... JIMMY WAS MY BRO, WE WORKED TOGETHER WHEN HE WASN'T ON TOUR... MISS THAT FUCKER ALL THE TIME, CONSTANTLY GO ONLINE JUST TO SEE AND HEAR STUFF LIKE THIS.... WHAT I WOULD DO FOR JUST ONE MORE "BIG BROTHER SPEACH" OR ONE MORE DAY ON THE JOB WITH HIM ECT.... R.I.P. JIMMY, I MISS AND LOVE YA BROTHER... ROB CRAWFORD....
Had the opportunity to hang w/ Jim, his wife and zero down while working for Diesel Boy on a weekend show stint(merch and rodie crap). I can say that tho it was a short time, i'm glad i had the opportunity. He mede me smile alot that weekend. Good memories.
Nice job with the tribute video bro. This is one of the BEST songs Strung Out ever made or wrote to paper. a haunting song, one of those songs that sends chills down your spine. RIP Jim Cherry
dang man. i was just expounding on my punk history and found out about this and i was listening to the song Feels Like Home by No Use For A Name which they as well dedicated that song to him and dang straight up i almost started crying lol it sucks to have a guy like this die. RIP Jim Cherry
A Lifetime to Pay is hands down one of the best punk albums this decade. I still listen to this album and it never gets old. The quote " in everything that I've given up I've gained my self respect" expresses my lifestyle better than I ever could.
Thank you so much, Jim. You have at least my life a little better because of the music you created.
I never realized this song was a tribute to Jim Cherry. I always loved it, but now it has another layer of meaning!
I remember my one brief brush with Jim - Zero Down was on tour across Canada and I saw them play in Thunder Bay, Ontario. I was right near the front, singing along, and Jim commented that that was the first time he'd ever seen anyone singing a Zero Down song. I chatted with him for a few minutes after the show when he was at the merch booth... nothing serious, but nice nonetheless
Oh man, thanks for this tribute. 'with a lifetime to pay' means so much to me. Jim is the king in writing fast punkrocksongs with realistic melancholy lyrics. Jim=brilliant
Nicely done mate, Jim was an extraordinary talent and great to see someone paying tribute. Strung Out are easily my favoured band and from trying to find similar bands I came upon Zero Down. When I bought the album right away it was clear that A Lifetime to Pay is a masterpiece attributed to the brilliant Jim. His songwriting on that album is amazing and it rocks from the start to the finish. Do you know anymore bands that sound like strung out, zero down?? Please let me know dude
You could check out early Pulley stuff when Cherry was in the band. Umm Strung Out have a pretty definitive sound but you could check The Sainte Catherines or M-Sixteen have the melodic hardcore sound in vein of Strung Out. Check out Lifetime and Down By Law (as I'm sure one of the guys out of it was in Zero Down.
Check out the live zerodown footage recently put on here by a guy rock1271,great to see it! Jim was the fuckin man,a true talent.
