I have played a number of games like this, and they are always incredibly frustrating. Having said that, it looks really good, so I may have to get it anyway.
Funny how the title screen letters are presented in pseudo-isometric perspective, as this kind of view would've certainly helped with the "altitude problem" in the actual gameplay.
Shame that level of difficulty of this game borders at insane. I was looking at your video and often I didn't even see what hit you. I guess you need to learn patterns in order to beat the game, which bothers me a lot. I hate to be pixel perfect in order to avoid obstacles and try to remember what I need to avoid next...Shame, because the game is technically very impressive....
As others have pointed out, I think Uridium benefited from having much less clutter on the ship surfaces, making it far easier to avoid crashing, and also with Uridium, if I remember correctly, your bullets were stopped by crashable objects, so you could tell what you would hit. Still an impressive clone though.
That technically is a supreme piece of programming on the Atari 8-bit, lots of colour, resolution, speed. But yes it looks insanely hard. Although saying that not as hard as the older one - Thunderfox, which I still can't figure out what you have to do next. At least this one you can clearly see what you have blown up etc. Once you have learned the patterns would be a very cool shooter. I wonder whether it is available cartridge base?
I think uridium had a small scrolling dot map showing the sticky up bits, even so it was still very very difficult to keep an eye on it as this game is so fast. It's a matter of learning the surfaces in detail. It's a shame because it looks so appealing to the average gamer but only hardened shoot em up heads got any mileage or satisfaction out of it, grrrrrr.
Got Psychastria on the Electron and never made it past the 2nd level because of this design flaw. Would like to see someone complete it at some point :(
Never seen this. Left the 8-bit Atari for the ST way before this title came out. Tried it now on an emulator. My playing abilities made your's look like Billy Mitchell's. It's unplayable IMO, what were the authors thinking - that we all have Jedi reflexes?
Hey another Uridium clone, Uridium is probably the best version of all these games and sadly not all clones live up the the expectations of Uridium by Hewson. Still good game to try out - I will check it out for sure :) Thanks for showing this Steve!
Wow, the colors are very confusing. The voice is a nice addition, but the blurring of the background and seeming randomness of things sticking "up" to kill you are just wrong.
Looks great, but boy these are difficult games to play. These levels seem even more hard to see where the obstacles are than in Uridium. Awesome digitized speech though!
Ooh a naughty naughty *tribute* there !!!! Uridium on the C64 is bloody great, but I admit to being very very bad at it for just the reason you discuss. Height it really hard to judge and you lose most of your lives just ploughing into static objects........ hmm.... sounds a bit like me in a multi-storey car park.
This is why I don't play shooters at all. (except Super Fantasy Zone)

This game would be fired across the room after 10 minutes with lots of swearing :-)

Hard as nails and another game which turns you into a gibbering heap. "I, Uh. Oh, Bollox!"
"Oh, I'm still alive!" Such surprise in your voice!

@8BitMicro Gibbering heap is my default setting ;)

Sound samples were amazing, especially when it said "FFS" and "bollocks". Sounded almost human ;-)

Lol, such a shame about the design flaw, wonderful looking and playing game, especially love the sampled voices on an Atari! :)

Looks like it could have been a fun game if they hadn't decided to pack quite so much detail into the background.

As you say, Steve, that design flaw ruins what would otherwise be a pretty good game. I don't even know what you hit most of the time. :(
I wanna know what you were waffling about. :P
