I had same problem with mine on Windows XP SP2, just get to SP3 or Vista or Windows 7 and you'll be fine. XP SP2 just doesnt support multi-core CPU's, not like its not gona work, just wont work as it must.
yea cool but right now here ib aust its like 29 to about 35 degrees here now cause its spring and my room is all wood and all the sun is like always in my room the whole day so my cpu cooks like eggs!
yea i no and also i find that i can over clock intel cpu's on the stock cooler and still stay under 45 or 50 degrees i mean i still use amd as i said :D just not for gaming
well i use the stock standard ones for amd well i did and they still overheated didnt over clock tho and my intel fans are loud but i play my stuff loud really loud lol i mean i still use amd for some of my pc's but for mine its intel :D
If you still have problems with the processor ask around on Forums. I recommend Tomshardware. Also I if you got warranty on it (which you probably have) use it.
i had a simular problum this morning last night i overclocked mine to 3.36 using the stocked cooler. my motherboard is a xfx 8200 gpu is a xfx 9600 gso. it worked real good the rest of the night then this morning when i turned it on it wouldent boot up. it would kick itself off befor windows would even try to boot up so i had to cleer cmos and it worked fine after that the hotest it got while siting at 3.36 was 51 -53 c can some body give me some advive please. my board also has a auto overclock
The processor is good. I like it, alot for the money. Stock heatsink is..ok not great. A small overclock should work, 2,9-3GHz maybe. I'm using a heatsink from a socket 939 Opteron 170 processor (it's better, and has got heatpipes). To my surprise it fits on an AM2+. Ok my tip, buy this processor and spend some change on an ok heasink and clock it. Got mine spinnin' at 3,2GHz with no effort at all (I just upped the clock multiplier to x16 basically).
only thing i can think of right now is ur motherboard, maybe not the best thing to oc these chips, now i realize why u can't run overdrive, overdrive only run with amd 7 series chipsets
you can go into bios and change your multi to 15x to get 3.1ghz on stock voltage. when you start computer press delete and go into cpu settings and click on bios

Check if you've got AMD's Cool'n Quiet enabled.
Got the same processor btw :)

First off, don't use overdrive. If you weren't using overdrive in the first place, then upgrade your bios.
