Employing the same backing track more than once was a trick that Don learnt from his days with Joe Meek.Unable to play an instrument, he would simply write new words to existing backing tracks, which is why most of Joe's compositions are based on the same chord sequence. Don Charles wrote and produced the tune "Tornado" by Alan Caddy, wrote words to the tune and called it "A long time ago" for one of his own songs and used the backing track a third time with "Goodbye Joe" by The Gemini"!
Somehow I could tell when you mention Brittain about this! Right away it reminded me of the "Wall of Sound" numbers they did over there in this decade!! HUGE orchestra numbers too! :-)
