Im not defending Shaw, but to look at this now makes him seem like a monster. You have to look at it in the context of the time period, The great depression and the end of WWI. there were a lot of maimed war victims and severly poor people at the time. most goverments had sterilization policies in hopes of decreasing the population over time and making it a stronger work force. Im not defending Shaw, but to look at this now makes him seem like a monster. You have to look at it in the context of the time period, The great depression and the end of WWI. there were a lot of maimed war victims and severly poor people at the time. most goverments had sterilization policies in hopes of decreasing the population over time and making it a stronger work force. In the context of our time, this is deplorable, but at that time it seemed like a good idea to people.

You have missed what is occurring if you just look at Communism alone. Communism is but one small sect of the greater belief these folks have. All Socialism, Progressivism, Communism, and Liberation Theology (marxist Christianity) is based on the doctrine of philosophy and the dialectic method. While it wasn't nearly as controversial when he originally said these things, this clip is not "out of context" (though it is about the furthest I've heard him go down that road).

@Solarcoreg No it is not. It doesn't take long via google to find a deep and scary history of Progressivism and eugenics. It is from the Progressive Movement we get Planned Parenthood because Margaret Sanger believed "negroes" should not breed. From H.G. Wells, who coined the term "liberal fascism", Oliver Wendell Holmes, George Bernard Shaw, Teddy Roosevelt and a host of other Progressives, they all support eugenics and initially supported Hitler in one form or another.

Societies themselves are collections, perhaps collectivist by your term - one can overlay capitalism on that, and it won't change that we care for each other and have duties. Beyond duty, people must work together, in any system, to achieve most notions of the good (capitalist, socialist, or something else) - the one-person business is rare, the one-person family is sad.
