My dear ,you play like Sergei himself So strong Why dont you play the orchestral reduction? I play concerto's 1,2&3 all with orchestral reduction played by me also It gives the concertos more cohearence .. Granted it 'd take longer but would be more complete You are ACE love your playing Thankyou for these x
Wow Rachmaninov wrote this piece when he was just a year older than me. I need to stop watching people play piano on youtube and start playing my own piano.
There is a perfect moment at 4:14. I gotta admit how beautiful her hands look as she starts playing that following beautiful melody from then on up.....i love it
Simply amazing! Because of Valentina's unbelievably superb piano rendition, one can even hear the invisible "mental orchestra", so to speak. Many thanks.
Просто удивительно! Из-за невероятно превосходное исполнение фортепианных Валентины, можно даже услышать невидимым "психического оркестра", так сказать. Большое спасибо.
9:04 to 9:30 - I play this part everytime i go to the music room, in my high school, and everytime, everybody says : " OMG, He's a god ! I can believe my ears ! It looks like the devil is playing !" but when i saw you, valentina, playing this part, I thought the same thing :)
@612curtis Lol do you know how hard sight reading is?! I can't sight read for shit, but she can play anything so she must be able to sight read while watch TV at the same time lol
Is this the piece that was slated by critics because of an allegedly drunk conductor and aydiences not appreciating the romantic style of composition? Or was that his 1st symphony?
Your remarkable sound, interpretation, style and entertainingly unique, gracefull and elegant technique spoil me...I simply cannot watch/listen to another pianist unless you haven't recorded the piece!!!!!
@MikePiano83 You're right, it's not that great that piano - Valentina is fantastic but the piano could be a lot better. Never thought I'd say that about a Steinway.
It is a golden age Steinway. I bought one of three. All had different sounds. The bright one was purchased by a pop musician. I got the sweet full bodied sounding one. Had to brighten up the upper register however.
you are to me the finest pianist in the whole world. i would gladly trade my perfect pitch if could play with your gusto. you are a wonderful genius to be adored by the world.
Valentina es para mi uno de los mas grandes prodigios de todos los tiempos. Es sencillamente fuera de serie. Ojala algún día tenga el placer de oírla personalmente en algún concierto. Dios guarde tus manos y tu genio. Eres mi ídolo !!!
wonderful performace, this is the most hard music which you learned? What is the most hard music that you learned ? and you are learning any music now? which? you will post here on Youtube?.

Guardo, ascolto, riguardo ascoltando sempre più più affascinato e mi chiedo sempre come fa a riuscirci, non è un mostro di bravura è .......................... VALENTINA.
If Rachmaninoff was alive, he would get down on knees and kiss your hands, exactly like I would do. Thank you for posting, it´s a great pleasure to listen to such an upper standard pianist like you are !!
Es como si el piano estuviera siendo tocado a cuatro manos; dos manos de Dios y las otras dos del Diablo! De que otra forma podria definirse ese toque, tan poderoso, a veces y otras, tan sutil. Dios mio que genio!.
I wouldn't want to live in a world without Rachmaninoff's music, and of course, without Valentina. Seriously, she has got to be the coolest chick ever. I can watch her play all day and night. She entertains the crap out of you!
On another note, is that the 'puffy shirt' from Seinfeld? Looks good on her though... -Brian
don't you think you should reserve your judgement until you hear it with orchestra after all- a concerto is for solo instrument with orchestra- so this is just one component
I think Rachmaninoff is listening and nodding approval. This music is truly from heaven. I can't imagine the rush you must get to hear the piano obey your fingers.. Bravo-bravo
The closing passages show that her hands are like a superbly trained octopus :)
I've watched Valentina close up & can confirm that she has a very economical technique - no energy wasted on hands raised high above the keys, & she never sounds bangy despite her virtuosity & power, but rather seems to transfer just enough energy from her long arms without whacking the piano.
I love the tone, the musicality; informed friends of mine are all mesmerised - they all say WOW !!
In my youth i asked how great composers were playing ( in comparison with living players). the answer of musicians was " Nobody can play as well as Chopin , Liszt ....Rachmaninoff" . To-day we can affirm that some of pianists play as well as Great composers. Valentina , for example. Unless we see her as Hindu princess ( very respectfully)

I have often imagined what it wold have been like to see the magic of Listz perform in his prime. Not as though we will ever know what this may have been like, I can not help but to consider that today we have a glimpse of that same brilliance in our time. Bravo Valentina!
Rachmaninov''s composition technique was still developing. He was part of the same Chromatic Russian Impressionistic school of Composers, as his contemporary Scraibin. After this work, he ventured more towards the standard Diatonic Common Practice period form of Composition rather than the Chromatic Impressionistic forms that Scriabin chose.Conc. #2 is a perfect example of this dichotomy. Conc. #1 is far richer, more Chromatic in Sound, & development. Excellent performance.
I don't agree. First remember that the 1891 ed. of the F-sharp minor concerto gained at least some of its harmonic richness only with its 1917 revision. And there's the immensely complex harmonic world of the Op. 39 Etude-Tableaux (think of the E-flat minor), which were published in 1916. And although textures are leaner in the late works (the A-minor symphony, G-minor concerto and Corelli Variations are examples), the harmonic idiom is anything but "standard Diatonic Common Practice".
Very fluid and sensitive interpretation. Although not well recieved when it premiered, in many ways superior to the #2. Rachmaninov went into a deep dpression following the poor reception of the Premier of this work. I have this w/Horowitz on Victor from the 1950's.
Rachmaninov & Scriabin were contemporaries, you hear a bit of the
impressionistic harmonic treatments that Scriabin was more known for. Developmental treatment is pure Rach.
Excellent performance 5***** Continued next entry.
