  • My dear ,you play like Sergei himself So strong Why dont you play the orchestral reduction? I play concerto's 1,2&3 all with orchestral reduction played by me also It gives the concertos more cohearence .. Granted it 'd take longer but would be more complete You are ACE love your playing Thankyou for these x

  • she plays the opening octaves like Rachmaninoff himself, (also Byron Janis and Michael Pletnev who until now owned this piece)

  • I favorited this after the first 12 seconds. :D

  • yes! I'm the # 77,000

  • Damn!!!!

  • Breathtaking!!!

  • Could you do concerto 3 minus orchestra? I would love to hear that!

  • @jonake630 Or 4 :)

  • amazing!<3

  • Excelente Interpretacion!!!

  • Ok, I see now, this is how Ms. Lisitsa sleeps. Correct?

  • @bosendorferandVL290 correct!

  • oh my god! thats unbelivable

  • @lonewolf604 jajajaja!!! Ayyy!

  • Wow Rachmaninov wrote this piece when he was just a year older than me. I need to stop watching people play piano on youtube and start playing my own piano.

  • @tennistar191 He did revise it later on in life.

  • @tennistar191 hahaha lol :)

  • This is wonderful play. Valentina may I ask you to play Rachmaninoff Concerto #3 please)

  • My favorite part is when the main theme starts again at the very end with big chords. It's very majestic!

  • for a second I thought Gandalf was playing piano.

  • @lonewolf604

    lmao

  • actually i think the orchestral melodies exist in the playing of the piano part, its not just mental, the overtones are probably creating this effect

  • Sublime.

  • ; )

  • There is a perfect moment at 4:14. I gotta admit how beautiful her hands look as she starts playing that following beautiful melody from then on up.....i love it

  • Your playing has a deep subliminal effect ... too speechless about your vibrant grace

  • Rachmaninov era un bestia.

  • Simply Fantastic!

  • Simply amazing! Because of Valentina's unbelievably superb piano rendition, one can even hear the invisible "mental orchestra", so to speak. Many thanks.

  • @xapaga1 agreed, i can hear the orchestra in my head, it sounds amazing with her playing

  • 9:04 to 9:30 - I play this part everytime i go to the music room, in my high school, and everytime, everybody says : " OMG, He's a god ! I can believe my ears ! It looks like the devil is playing !" but when i saw you, valentina, playing this part, I thought the same thing :)

  • Awesome Valentina. Your amazing stuff never stops surprising me.

  • Definitely an underrated Rach Concerto, yet one of my favorites.

  • There is some recording with orchestra?

  • Valentina, will you marry me? XD wahaha, kidding of course. I can't stop listening to this :)

  • how long does it take you to learn? you seem to know your pieces SOO well

  • @davidbaker03 To be honest I think she could sight read that piece :P

  • @612curtis Lol do you know how hard sight reading is?! I can't sight read for shit, but she can play anything so she must be able to sight read while watch TV at the same time lol

  • @tjtheplay hahahaha she probably could! She's an amazing pianist

  • Is this the piece that was slated by critics because of an allegedly drunk conductor and aydiences not appreciating the romantic style of composition? Or was that his 1st symphony?

  • WANT a CD of the recording so badly. Is there going to be a CD released?

  • nice pj's... and nice playing

  • Sounds like good sight reading practice.

  • @dahalofreeek hahahahahahhaha yeah definitely for Valentina =D lol

  • Rachy & Val 4 Ever ♥

  • Well.. Gosh darn it.. I think you are Wonderful at this. !!!

  • I can't believe people did not like this beautiful concerto at the time when Rachmaninoff presented to them.

  • @candoyja - I believe you are thinking of his first SYMPHONY, which was poorly received at the time - not this concerto. :)

  • I love you valentina ...

  • Amazing....best recording i know....but the Grand sounds like a whorehousepiano, sry

  • Your remarkable sound, interpretation, style and entertainingly unique, gracefull and elegant technique spoil me...I simply cannot watch/listen to another pianist unless you haven't recorded the piece!!!!!

  • Rachmaninov would have loved this recording. Beautiful! Dramatic! Enchanting - taking the listener to another timeless univers :)

  • @MikePiano83 You're right, it's not that great that piano - Valentina is fantastic but the piano could be a lot better. Never thought I'd say that about a Steinway.

  • It is a golden age Steinway. I bought one of three. All had different sounds. The bright one was purchased by a pop musician. I got the sweet full bodied sounding one. Had to brighten up the upper register however.

  • All I have to say: 6:55 = EPIC WIN.

  • wonderfullllll pianist:-) fantastic performance in an out of tune junk NewYork Steinway........ Valentina preferring Bösendorfer

  • Hoho, da sind Affenhände ja nichts dagegen.

  • I've looked for Rach Op3 No2 in C# Minor...Not uploaded here?

    :-(

  • you are the best i were ever met

    really

  • you are the finest pianist in the whole world. i would gladly trade my perfect pitch

if i could play with your gusto. you are a wonderful genius to be adored by the world.

  • Dear Valentina,

i write so few comments, because i can't find enough and not the right words, to express my admiration for your art.

I hear you almost every day.

Regard my being silent as my perfect and steady appreciation :-)

(Pardon for my possibly bad English)

  • OMG. Frightening!

Dios guarde tus manos y tu genio. Eres mi ídolo !!!

  • wonderful performace, this is the most hard music which you learned? What is the most hard music that you learned ? and you are learning any music now? which? you will post here on Youtube?.

I admire you and I and I draw on you when I will study some music.

    Best regards Renan

  • You make me cry, Valentina.

How do you play that way?

  • if you hear me playing this i will make you cry as well, though.... differently :D

  • This makes me think of the music minus one cds. Perhaps you can make brand new "music minus everyone" cds so that orchestras can practice too, lol

  • BRAVO!!!!!

VALENTINA.

  • probably she loves piano playing ^^

mhh youre good valentina ... im asking me how much houres you practice for this peace

  • If Rachmaninoff was alive, he would get down on knees and kiss your hands, exactly like I would do. Thank you for posting, it´s a great pleasure to listen to such an upper standard pianist like you are !!

  • I wouldn't want to live in a world without Rachmaninoff's music, and of course, without Valentina. Seriously, she has got to be the coolest chick ever. I can watch her play all day and night. She entertains the crap out of you!

On another note, is that the 'puffy shirt' from Seinfeld? Looks good on her though... -Brian

  • Can Rachmaninoff be considered the "Chopin of Russia"?? LOL

  • You should wash your mouth prior to speaking about F.Chopin.

  • No, they have nothing in common.

  • i was litereally,

    blown away.

  • Mrs Rachmaninoff..:-)

  • Valentina, is there anything you CAN'T play with that amazing grace ?

  • i actually like it kinda better without the orchestra cause you can hear all the intricate piano parts. rachmaninov was such a genius

  • You are a GREAT PIANISTE.

    God, with you, ever.

Many Thanks and kisses from Corfu - Greece.

  • Sei grandiosa Valentina...

    I love your music.....

  • No?...I thinks she's amazing here...

  • care to elaborate?

  • don't you think you should reserve your judgement until you hear it with orchestra after all- a concerto is for solo instrument with orchestra- so this is just one component

  • it looks so easy when se plays such difficult pieces

I see you are sitting to low.

    YOU ARE THE B E S T

  • Another reminder of why you are my favorite.

  • I think Rachmaninoff is listening and nodding approval. This music is truly from heaven. I can't imagine the rush you must get to hear the piano obey your fingers.. Bravo-bravo

  • Any idea when the cd will be released?? i need to buy copies of them. makes a great gift!!

  • You're simply the best!! I can watch you play all day!

  • O_O

    stunning!! :-D

  • ...I love your pianism...Valentina...sei grandiosa!!

    Ti ascolto continuamente...I love you!

  • magnifique !!

    Comment s'est passé l'enregistrement à Londre ?

  • Comment removed

  • ...sei grande Valentina ...ti ascolto tutti i giorni...ormai fai parte della mia vita!!!

    W W W .... Valentina Lisitsa...la più grande!!!

  • ...sei troppo ...troppo brava...Valentina...sei semplicemente ....meravigliosa...grande Valentina...I.... Love You

  • The closing passages show that her hands are like a superbly trained octopus :)

I've watched Valentina close up & can confirm that she has a very economical technique - no energy wasted on hands raised high above the keys, & she never sounds bangy despite her virtuosity & power, but rather seems to transfer just enough energy from her long arms without whacking the piano.

I love the tone, the musicality; informed friends of mine are all mesmerised - they all say WOW !!

  • Another Fantastic performance from Valentina!!! Can you upload a version like this of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G?

    Thanks!

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bravo and Thank again Valentina!

In my youth i asked how great composers were playing ( in comparison with living players). the answer of musicians was " Nobody can play as well as Chopin , Liszt ....Rachmaninoff" . To-day we can affirm that some of pianists play as well as Great composers. Valentina , for example. Unless we see her as Hindu princess ( very respectfully)

Pse Valentina come in France Yu will be welcome " A bras ouverts "

    M.T

  • I like your playing, the concerto No.1 and also yourself very much!

  • Perfect !!!!

  • I wonder.... Will we be able to hear Rachmaninoff's Third Concerto soon, Valentina? I hope we will...

  • thank you for "spoiling" us with such a good music! :)

  • I want to be able to write like this :(

  • very beautifull and "fluid". Great job, thanks for sharing.

  • Wonderful to hear these fantastic performances. Infinite thanks -- as much for your generosity as for your huge talent, Ms. Lisitsa.

  • I have often imagined what it wold have been like to see the magic of Listz perform in his prime. Not as though we will ever know what this may have been like, I can not help but to consider that today we have a glimpse of that same brilliance in our time. Bravo Valentina!

    I am amazed.

  • Continued.....

Rachmaninov''s composition technique was still developing. He was part of the same Chromatic Russian Impressionistic school of Composers, as his contemporary Scraibin. After this work, he ventured more towards the standard Diatonic Common Practice period form of Composition rather than the Chromatic Impressionistic forms that Scriabin chose.Conc. #2 is a perfect example of this dichotomy. Conc. #1 is far richer, more Chromatic in Sound, & development. Excellent performance.

  • I don't agree. First remember that the 1891 ed. of the F-sharp minor concerto gained at least some of its harmonic richness only with its 1917 revision. And there's the immensely complex harmonic world of the Op. 39 Etude-Tableaux (think of the E-flat minor), which were published in 1916. And although textures are leaner in the late works (the A-minor symphony, G-minor concerto and Corelli Variations are examples), the harmonic idiom is anything but "standard Diatonic Common Practice".

  • Very fluid and sensitive interpretation. Although not well recieved when it premiered, in many ways superior to the #2. Rachmaninov went into a deep dpression following the poor reception of the Premier of this work. I have this w/Horowitz on Victor from the 1950's.

Rachmaninov & Scriabin were contemporaries, you hear a bit of the

impressionistic harmonic treatments that Scriabin was more known for. Developmental treatment is pure Rach.

Excellent performance 5***** Continued next entry.

  • Always a tremendous excitment and pleasure to hear one of your sharing. Thks to do so. Just thought about you tonight and had the spark new stuff was on(stars told me :)). And i had the pleasure to see 6 new videos of your great work online. Stars are a bit late but still VERY ok with me. Love your work forever! ;)

  • mirinda ludado!

  • Merci!

  • magnificent!!!

  • Oooh this is excellent. :D I cant wait for the vids of the 3rd concerto :D.

  • thanks you for sharing this :)

  • I really like her playing.

  • she´s great great great!

    I LOVE HER STYLE.

i hear every day your videos!

    pleeease come play in brazil!

  • so very wonderful... so beautiful... you are amazing...

  • That full set is sure to compete with the greatest recordings on the market. Rachmaninov's lyricism suits your flamboyant temperament. Considering what I have heard, the technical difficulties will be mastered with great ease. I assume you will also record the Paganini Rhapsody? The LSO should be an excellent partner but I know nothing of the conductor. I will most certainly buy that album as soon as it appears. .....

  • excellent game...Valentina is number one.

  • Amazing!!!!!!!! I am Dyinggg to hear you play the Rachmaninoff Piano Sonata No.2 B Opus 36!! Keep up the WONDERFUL work Mrs. Lilista!

  • Absolutely Great!!! I love watching your videos...very inspiring!
