drawing anime is easier and you dont need the guidlines, depends though i know that some amazing anime pictures are ment with guidlines that would other wise look ugly, anyways guidlines are helpfull if you want to draw other things other than anime and it's a good habit if you have it.

Here's a tip for any one. The biggest point to drawing anime or manga is the shape og the head. You have to have a basic knowledge of a human head and the anatomy of it. Both the chin all the way to the top of the head.imagine your head being round at the top. Your hair is now flat out on your skull is it? Basically think of an egg the hair must be rounded around the head. Also the jaw is just like me and you so you have cheek bones, and and chin no rounded half circles for a chin.
